Medications Containing Wheat
Believe it or not, medication manufacturers aren't required to disclose if medications contain wheat as an inactive ingredient. While it's uncommon, it's not unheard of. So here's a running list of medications some folks have indicated have triggered gluten reactions or have not tested for gluten in their final product. I'm not a doctor so obviously consult a physician before taking alternatives as they may affect other conditions or medications you take.
Inactive ingredients to look out for:
Wheat
Modified starch (if source unknown)
Pregelatinized starch (if source unknown)
Dextrin (if not specified as corn or potato)
Dextrimaltose and caramel coloring (if barley malt is used)
What to do about it:
Talk to your pharmacist! More often than not, they will be more knowledgeable about medication components than your doctors, and they can find you a gluten-free alternative for prescription medications.
OTC Medications to Look Out For:
Benadryl tablets
Most cough drops (Luden's tends to be gluten free and they are my go to)
Advil Liqui-gel Caps
We ate the whole loaf before I could get a picture, but I got a bread machine for Christmas and made my first loaf today! I did gluten free to motivatemyselfto go back to it, and so Little Man could enjoy fresh bread. I think I'll be making another loaf tomorrow to give to my father in law before they head back to Florida since they gave me the bread machine. They eat gluten free on occasion too so I think they'll appreciate it.
In case anyone is curious; this is the recipe I followed, and I used the flour they recommend. It's been my go to flour since the 2010s. I want to try King Arthur's recipe for gluten free bread in the future.
