- Hartley Rathaway "Pied Piper" & David Singh in Dc's Crime's Of Passion "Secret Admire"
[Image Description: First image shows an edit of Hartley Rathaway on top of a pastel green background with his hair cut short, wearing a green jacket, and holding a phone to his ear as he looks off to the side. Second edit is of David Singh on top of a baby blue background, he's pinching the bridge of his nose with a frustrated look on his face while holding a phone to his ear. The next two images below the cut are transparents from the above two edits.]

Forever Evil: Rogues Rebellion (2013) #6
In Vino Veritas - David drunkenly confesses his feelings to Hartley
Thank you
( if you see this twice sorry I forgot if sent the ask or not ) .
Hi anon! I only see it the once - thank you for sending it in! I've been mulling this one over, and can't decide if it should be fluffy or angsty, so I'll include both, just for fun:
The fluffy take: Hartley and David get together of a weekend to hang out (allegedly as friends, both of them are very much nursing feelings for each other but aren't going to admit it yet). Hartley, fully joking, dares David to a drinking game, which David accepts because "I suppose it's a better option than a strip game." Hartley did not in the least expect to be taken up on this offer, and ends up having to run to the store to procure alcohol for this game, because neither of them drinks enough to keep some on hand.
Neither of them really likes to drink, so as the game commences, there is much lamenting about the taste (though this subsides a bit as they get too tipsy to notice). Despite not liking to drink, Hartley has a decent tolerance, and is thus in much better shape several drinks into the game. David, meanwhile, is a chatty drunk, and much-too-easily lets slip that he has feelings for Hartley but "shhh, you didn't hear me say that."
Hartley thinks he's adorable, and shortly thereafter calls the game to a close, because if David is drunk enough to start spilling secrets this easily, he's clearly drunk enough to need some sleep. They end up tumbling into bed together, with Hartley adamant that it's for cuddles only, and sleep. In the morning, David has a bit of a panic about waking up cuddled together, until Hartley wakes up enough to mumble "I have feelings for you too, now cuddle me," and, well. How exactly is David supposed to resist?
The angsty take, which was born solely because I don't imagine David as much of a drinker unless he's stressed: Hartley does not expect to find David Singh at Saints and Sinners out of uniform and looking generally miserable. They're friendly by now, if not exactly close, and he feels comfortable sitting down and asking what's up.
Without going into detail, David tells him that he's come from an awful crime scene - not meta-related, just human nastiness. He admits that after so many cases of metahuman crimes, he'd half-forgotten how much cruelty ordinary humans were capable of. Without prompting, he admits that the victim made him think of Hartley, though he declines to say why. Sadly, he says it made him think of how alone Hartley has been for so long, and how upset that makes him when he just wants to love and protect Hartley.
That just about breaks Hartley's brain, because he's not used to people thinking of him with any degree of kindness, let alone when he's not there. He's not sure what else to do, so he takes charge of getting David home safely and plopping him into bed.
Even though he's pretty sure David will forget the whole thing by morning, he can't resist leaving a note (because staying would be too much, when he has processing of his own to do). In the note, he says that he cares for him too, and that another day, when they're both sober, they should talk. It hurts David to wake up alone, when he remembers Hartley coming home with him, but finding the note gives him hope that he didn't scare him away for good.
