what its like being a voice floater in a small choir
so my chior has like 13 ppl in it and im a floater with a 1st soprano to high tenor range so i get put EVERYWHERE and here are some stories
constantly asking which part i should sing in warmups
"hey, can you go to alto for this specific part?"
having to move ON STAGE to be standing with my voice part
accidentally learining the wrong part because i forget which one i'm singing
highlighting the wrong line on my sheet music
"WE NEED MORE SECONDS!!! matter of fact, robin switch to second"
SINGING FIRST EVEN THOUGH I H A T E FIRST
so in short i hate being a floater <3 (/hj)
The songs “Hated by Life Itself” and “I Think I Just Died” have a very similar vibe but have opposite meanings so I wanna try to sing them in a mashup or something, but theres one problem
I don’t have the range for I Think I Just Died
I’ve been singing french art song very loudly out of my flat and has ONE person left me a polite note claiming I’m an angel, leading to our falling in love in quarantine? THEY HAVE NOT.
Being An Alto
Teacher: Okay Sopranos you get the nice easy melody that everybody already fucking knows. Now Altos time for you to relearn the entire song. I know you can do it! Altos: You know we can do it because we've done it with every song already.
(So my friend I have been talking about doing a collaborative singing project for a year or so, where we’d learn all of the magnetic fields 69 love songs, which is both of our favourite album (well, besides all the personal ones, but 69 love songs is just value for money as a favourite album), and because its the times of corona and we are cruelly kept apart by circumstance even though we live about a mile from each other, we decided to do it postal service style, if the postal service had google drive and whatsapp and audacity and had never mixed anything before.
Anyway I got tracks at 3am, and I did my vocals this afternoon and then did some very basic mixing, and it was a really, really stressful experience because even though I am highly trained at singing and had a singing lesson yesterday, and sing incredibly difficult arias and lieder and art song, yet what if it isn’t good? What if it isn’t nice? What if I don’t have any soul or personality in my voice? Like I might cry just thinking about it I’m so anxious.
argh.)
I have begun to push back in my fight against the My Grand Plan karaoke track (hates my voice a little less today)
So fellas if I played on a flat piano for nearly 2 decades then how long is it gonna take to correct my pitch because to be fair I can sing consistently..... flat.
