Day 16 and 17: River and Forest Spirits
Kai, my lil' blue Siyokoy Pie 🐙
Kapre's Anito
Siyokoy
Alternate Names: Shui Gui (in China)
Classification: Merfolk
Origin: Phillipines, China
Appearance: more fishlike and monstrous than other merfolk, they have webbed limbs, fins, gills, green or brown scaly skin, and long green tentacles
Siyokoy are monstrous hostile merfolk that have been known to drown people
Siyokoy are often accompanied by frightening predatory or toxic sea creature such as eels, rays, octopi, or squids
Among the guardian spirits of the Philippines' waters, the siyokoy are the least humanoid in appearance. They are also considered the most intimidating of the Bantay Tubig, often believed to swim alongside the most fearsome of ocean creatures.
Out of the depths and into our zine, next up is @desansen 's piece featuring the Siyokoy! 🌊

Colored a pencil sketch of Ysabel. Haven’t decided if she’s a siyokoy or a berberoka yet.
