Skrills have gills to allow them to take in more oxygen at high altitudes/within heavy storm clouds. It's also an evolutionary adaptation since they'd often be flying for long distances over large bodies of water, which left them vulnerable to large water dwelling dragons that would often try to drown them
They're one of the more passive dragons despite their aggressive/scary appearance. They really only attack humans or other dragons to defend their families, territory, or themselves, so if you make it clear you mean no harm a Skrill will gladly allow you near them
They are also one of the few dragons that will allow a human to ride them after only a few minutes of interaction
They make nest outlines of rocks that are lined with whatever soft materials they can gather. Grass, leaves, shed fur from mammals, their own shed scales, etc. Their nests are some of the only things they will refrain from frying with their electricity
Additionally, they nest and lay their eggs during 'wet seasons' so they can remain in one place for the 4-6 months it takes their young to grow large enough to learn to fly without help
Skrills don't mate for life, but both father and mother will stick around to help raise the hatchlings until they're old enough to care for themselves, at which point both parents and their children will go their separate ways to find their own territories. Occasionally the following season the same pair will mate again and the process will repeat, but more often than not they will each choose different partners
A Skrill clutch will usually have 3-5 eggs
Skrills and Night Furys have, historically, gotten along quite well. It wasn't exactly uncommon to find a few different nesting Skrills and their mates sharing a territory with a pack of Night Furys
In related news, female Night Furys would often look after Skrill nests/hatchlings while the parents hunted or simply took a break
Skrills rarely remain in packs for more than a nesting period. They prefer to be alone but are not opposed to sharing space, food, or even the sky itself with each other
They are one of the most intelligent species of dragons
Because of the electricity constantly buzzing across their scales they are immune to scale dwelling parasites, since the parasites are fried upon contact
Scale colors can vary from dark blues, purples, grays, and blacks but they are very rarely one solid color. Patterns, spots, and/or fading colors are more or less a guarantee
