What if the boy who cried wolf wasn't trying to trick people, but was genuinely afraid there could be a wolf there, and couldn't express it in any other way? And what if he knew a wolf probably wasn't there, but couldn't shake the feeling?

And when people stopped responding to his cries, he began to think not only the what if there really was a wolf there, but also what would the villagers do if there was? Would they protect him when it matters?

And when the time came when there really was a wolf there, and nobody responded to his final cries, maybe he felt it was better that way when the wolf devoured him. And his last thoughts were how he knew now that nobody in the village had ever really cared about him, and how maybe they'll be happier when he's not around to cry wolf anymore.

You ever just get down about that fact that you’re not that likeable?

Like, there are people who have tons of friends and who always have people to talk to and that are super well liked no matter what they do, and then you’re just there. You’ve never been that well liked, and it’s not because you’re a bad person, it’s just because people just sorta forget about you or pass you over in favor of others. You’re not anything super special.

And you’re just so used to being forgotten that you really don’t think about it most days. But then it hits you like a freight train, and suddenly you can’t breathe because you remember how unimportant you actually are.
