This is an Aikin Lambert Vis-O-Pen Gray lever fill fountain pen, model 238 c. 1937. The name comes from the "Ink Gauge" clear window in the section, which shows the remaining ink level. At the time Aikin Lambert was part of the Waterman company and Aikin Lambert Skywriter and Vis-O-Pen models were budget priced and marketed as "Made By Waterman's." It came in Black and three lustrous "pearl" colors: Dubonnet (a burgundy), Green, and Gray. The trim is polished "blue-white chromium." This 4 7/8 inch long pen has VIS-O-PEN over AIKIN LAMBERT CO. over NEW YORK, N.Y. U.S.A. imprinted on the barrel opposite the lever. The gold plated stainless steel nib is stamped VIS-O-PEN over IRIDIUM over POINT over U.S.A over 38 (the model number). The pen sold for $1.00, with matching twist-action pencils selling for 50 cents. The Botany View. There's been a pub on this site since 1868. Current art deco facade dates from 1937. Any view it once had of Botany Bay is built out and long gone. Newtown.
(The skywriter is spelling out the word "Eternity". That word has a long history in this town. Arthur Stace, a reformed vagrant and alcoholic who later found Christianity, anonymously wrote in white chalk the single word "Eternity" in the classic copperplate font on walls and footpaths all over the inner city more than half a million times between 1932 and 1967, without ever being seen. Only two known original inscriptions have survived. Pictured here at age 78 being 'unmasked' by a newspaper photographer in 1963, after decades of speculation about who might be responsible for his work. Arthur lived most of his life in the Inner West and died four years later. Photo: Trevor Dallen/Fairfax Archives).
There are only six full-time skywriters, those who use aircraft to expel special smoke during flight in patterns that create readable words from the ground, left in the world. – WTF Fun Facts
