Description: Nika is in recovery after her ACL injury, tired from everything—physically and emotionally. You help her wind down in the softest way possible, taking care of her, grounding her, and reminding her she doesn’t have to push through anything alone.
The room is quiet
Not empty quiet
Just soft evening quiet
The kind that feels like it’s holding its breath
⸻
Nika is sitting on the couch
Leg stretched out carefully
One hand resting over her knee like she’s still not fully used to it being there in that way
She’s trying to stay awake
Trying
But her eyes keep falling shut for a second too long
⸻
You sit down beside her slowly
Not saying anything at first
Just gently moving closer
And she immediately leans into you like it’s automatic
Like her body already knows where safe is
⸻
“…you tired?” you ask softly
Nika hums
“…little bit”
Then she pauses
“…okay, a lot”
You smile
“…yeah, I can tell”
⸻
You carefully shift her leg a little so it’s more comfortable
She watches you for a second
Then relaxes completely when you start gently massaging her knee
Slow pressure
Careful hands
Nothing rushed
⸻
Nika exhales
Long and shaky
“…that feels good” she murmurs
You nod
“…I’ve got you”
⸻
After a moment, you move your hands up a little
Lightly rubbing her thigh, then easing into her lower back
Nika immediately melts
Like her whole body just gives up trying to hold itself up
“…don’t stop” she says quietly
⸻
You laugh softly
“…I’m not going anywhere”
⸻
She shifts closer without thinking
Her head dropping onto your shoulder
Then sliding down until she’s fully leaning into you
Almost asleep already
⸻
You start gently scratching her head
Slow
Careful
Fingers in her hair
And she makes a quiet sound like she didn’t realize how tired she was until now
⸻
“…you okay?” you whisper
Nika nods slightly
Then mumbles in Croatian
“…dobro je…”
(“it’s okay…”)
She pauses
Then adds softer
“…ostani”
(“stay”)
⸻
You lean your head against hers
“…I’m staying” you whisper back
“…I’m right here”
⸻
She hums
Almost asleep now
Her breathing slowing against your shoulder
⸻
You keep massaging gently
Her back
Her neck
Slow circles that make her shoulders drop even more
⸻
“…you don’t have to be strong right now, you know that right?” you whisper

Under the cut.
The sun had barely begun to peak over the horizon, warm rays of light dancing in patterns along the sheets of an empty bed. The house was still, quiet, calm, everyone and everything blanketed in the gentleness of the twilight hours. Strangely, Livewire wasn’t in bed this morning, at least not their own.
Volt was the first to open his eyes this morning, blinking the sleep from his eyes as the glow of his visage slowly brightened along with the morning sun. He reached one of his hands up to his chest, finding someone lying their head there sleeping soundly. For a moment he found himself confused, as the only partner he remembered falling asleep with last night was lying on their stomach on the other side of the bed with an arm hanging off the side of the frame. Volt turns his attention from Eddie’s form to the Spark that snuck their way into the bed at some point in the night. The confusion quickly turns into butterflies in his chest, warming at the sight.
“When did you get here?” Volt whispers to the still sleeping Livewire, a smile dawning his lips.
A grunt sounds from Eddie as he mumbles sleepily into his pillow, a deep gravel settled in his voice “They snuck in a few hours ago.” Eddie stifles a yawn, turning his head to face Volt with half lidded eyes. “Said they couldn’t sleep.” Eddie explains.
Eddie reaches for Livewire on instinct when they tense in their sleep, smoothing his calloused hand over the back of their shoulder as he props himself on his elbow. Volt looks down at his sleeping partner sympathetically, pushing the hair back from their eyes.
“Nightmares again?” Volt asks Eddie.
“Mm, think so. They didn’t say, but… They seemed tense.”
After confirming their Spark is still asleep Volt turns his attention back to Eddie, holding his other hand out to caress Eddie’s cheek. Eddie grumbles incoherently, but tilts his head into the touch, nearly being lulled straight back to sleep. Volt chuckles at the sight and leans closer to brush his lips against Eddie’s.
“You should go back to sleep, darling. It’s early still.” Volt whispers.
Eddie shakes his head, another grunt scratching through his throat, “Gotta get things set up in the club for tonight. If I don’t get up now, I won’t get up at all.” Eddie sighs.
Volt rolls his eyes, “Would that be such a terrible thing? I think we’re allowed a day to rest with our dearest Livewire, don’t you? They look so sweet like this, you don’t want to wake them now, do you? You know the moment one of us leaves the bed they’re going to notice.”
Eddie glares at Volt for a moment, he knows what he’s doing, using their partner to make him sleep in. Before Eddie can think of something witty to come back with and swipe that taunting smile off Volt’s face, another stir from Livewire causes him to tense. Both men’s attention turns to their Spark as they stiffen and their breathing hitches in their sleep. Eddie and Volt feel themselves holding their own breath for a moment until Livewire inhales and their breathing returns to normal. Eddie shifts closer and peers over Livewire’s shoulder at their still sleeping face, then he turns to Volt.
“I hate when they do that.” Volt exhales a sigh of relief, and Eddie feels himself do the same.
“I know.” Eddie’s eyes lock with Volt’s for a moment, a silent reassurance passing between the two and easing the tension in their muscles.
Eddie goes to reposition Livewire when their breath starts to hitch again, trying to allow space for more air into their lungs. They breathe in again, but immediately go back to the same position. Snuggling closer to Volt and burying their face into his neck, they nearly climb completely on top of him, holding onto him as if someone were trying to steal him away.
Volt stifles a laugh, “I don’t think that’s going to help with your breathing, Spark.”
“Something tells me they don’t care.” Eddie smirks, as Livewire only presses their face deeper into the crook of Volt’s neck and shoulder.
Eddie tries once again to peel Livewire away from Volt, earning a soft squeak of protest as they only hold onto Volt, tired.
“Mmn… Mine.”
Eddie bites his lip, trying to prevent his smirk from growing into a full grin as he looks at Volt. Volt has made no such efforts to fight the beaming smile taking over his face, his bright eyes sparkling as his eyes flick from his sleeping lover to his conscious lover. The same question is clear in both their eyes. Did you hear that? Another thought quickly forms in both their heads as Volt wraps his arms around Livewire and Eddie leans closer to whisper in their ear.
“What’s yours, Spark?”
“Hmm… Volt… Mmnd… Eddie.”
Volt has to clasp a hand over his mouth to keep from laughing as Eddie turns to hide his flustered face. Eddie had expected them to say Volt’s name, but not his. When he happens a glance back at Volt, he notices the same hue on Volt’s cheeks that colour his own, and the steel in his eyes soften.
Livewire’s breath stutters again and their two lovers are quick to try and reposition them again.
“Mmn, mine.” Livewire repeats.
“We’re yours.” Volt says softly, kissing the top of their head.
“And you’re ours.” Eddie says hesitantly, “But, we need you to keep breathing if we want you to stay that way.” He says firmly, finally prying them away from Volt’s neck.
Livewire reaches out for the warmth that’s now left them and whines, “Please… Don’t go.”
Volt and Eddie look into each other’s eyes with a soft longing tugging at their heartstrings and Eddie sighs in resignation, fully laying back on his side and pulling Livewire closer to rest their back flush against his chest. Volt rolls onto his side and stretches an arm to rest on Livewire’s side and hold Eddie, still gazing into his partner’s stormy eyes.
“We’re not going anywhere, Spark.” Volt assures with another kiss to Livewire’s forehead, earning a content hum in response.
Volt brushes away the stray wires that fall into Eddie’s eyes and is met with a truly rare sight, even for him. The smile on Eddie’s lips, so soft and relaxed Volt can’t help but stare as Eddie allows the gentle rise and fall of Livewire’s shoulders to soothe him back to sleep.
“That smile looks good on you.” Volt admits, the same expression painting his own face as his eyes begin to fall half lidded. “I told you they’d notice if one of us tried to leave, you know. I suppose you won’t be getting up today after all.” He teases.
“Shut it.” Eddie quips, but his smile takes away any bite the words might attempt.
Volt chuckles, stroking Eddie’s jaw and then Livewire’s.
“They fit rather perfectly between us… Don’t you think?” Volt asks.
“Perfect.” Eddie agrees, placing a kiss on their shoulder.
“Mm… I love you…” Livewire nuzzles their head back into Eddie, and hugs Volt’s arm.
Volt looks nearly in tears when Eddie opens his eyes again, and Eddie has to take a deep breath to keep his eyes from doing the same. “We love you-”
“We love you too.” Their voices overlap each other, the words tumbling out to reciprocate their slumbering partner’s confession.
Livewire smiles sleepily and nestles comfortably between the two, “Mine.”
Let me tell you, there’s nothing worse than overstimulation while you’re flipping your lid. I was in the doctor’s office and the fan was too loud and had a full meltdown.
10/10.
Enjoy this nice little hurt/comfort/fluffy thing I made to cope.
You yawn and rub at your eyes, still swollen with sleep. You're making your way to the kitchen to get water when you see light flooding into the hallway from the cracked office door and, with it, Xyx's voice. He's giving callouts, presumably to Toast, and the reminder of his existence makes you ache for him. You immediately abandon your previous mission and decide to follow the sound, pushing the office door open quietly and coming up behind your unsuspecting boyfriend.
He's playing Final Fantasy, as expected, but you couldn't care less. You walk right up to him and press against the back of his chair, wrapping your arms around him and leaning over to rest your head atop of his. He jumps at this, only enough for you to barely notice the shift in his composure. "Hello, love. Sneaky little bugger, are you? Hold on, Toast." You watch him mute his mic and smile just a little.
Xyx detaches your arms from him and pushes his chair back to stand. You frown at the loss of contact. He turns to you, though, and you extend a hand in offering for him. He chuckles and takes it, pulling you into his embrace. You hum a satisfied sound as you nuzzle your face into his chest, blocking out the light of the room and enveloping you in his smell. You stay like that, saying nothing as he strokes your hair.
"Why are you up, doll?" He pulls away only slightly so that he can look at you.
You don't move from your place, wrapped around in his comfort. "I needed water. Why are you still up? Come to bed with me." You feel him laugh just a little and he pulls away again. You watch him grab his headset again and unmute his mic.
"Toast, I gotta go. We'll play tomorrow." He takes the headset off again and you hear some quiet protests coming from Toast before Xyx leaves the call and closes the game, shutting his PC off. "Go back to bed, doll. I'll bring you some water." He presses a brief kiss onto your head and then fully separates from you. You accept your fate and make your way back to the room and wait for him to come join you.
You had gotten dangerously comfortable by the time he got to the room. You smile and take the water from him, watching as he gets ready for bed. His back turned to you, you admire the way the muscles in his back shift as he pulls his shirt over his head. You sip your water and glance away in embarrassment as he changes into pajama pants.
You finish your water and set it on the nightstand just as you feel the bed shift from Xyx getting in with you. He gets situated and reaches out to touch your arm, drawing your attention towards him. He smiles up at you and you finally admit defeat, laying back and relaxing. Xyx pulls you in close to him once again, and you just stare up at him, admiring his features in your sleepy state.
He brushes your hair back from your face and you reach up to rest your hand on his cheek, rubbing with your thumb absent-mindedly. You can feel him lean into your touch ever so slightly and it drives you crazy. Every time you look at him your heart swells so much you feel like you'll burst. The safety and comfort you feel in him, the way he looks at you like you're his entire world, you can't stand it. It's sickeningly sweet and you want all of it and more.
"Penny for your thoughts?" His voice pulls you out of your haze and you can see him smirking down at you.
You smile in return and giggle to yourself. "I know you can afford more than a penny, Mr. Lawyer," you tease. He laughs and, again, that ache in your chest returns. You'll never get enough of him, even if you spend every minute of your life with him. You are absolutely obsessed with this man, like an addict constantly in search of their next fix.
Instead of answering his question, your hand that was on his cheek moves to the back of his head and you bring him towards you, kissing him like your life depends on it. When you finally pull away you're still close enough where you can feel the heat radiating off of his skin. "I just love you so much," you whisper before kissing him again.
His hand finds its way to your hip as he pulls you on top of him and your free hand goes to his chest to stabilize yourself. You'll never get over this ache, this wonderful feeling of want and need, but moments like this will satisfy your hunger for now.
For @dapandapod who had some trouble sleeping and we talked about a bit of fluff. Hope you don’t mind I kind of took that idea and just ran. <3
CW: It’s just fluff yall.
Geralt shifted slightly and realized there was a weight against his shoulder that hadn’t been there at least five minutes ago. He looked over, and there was Jaskier, snoring gently, head drooped to the side where it rested on Geralt.
Oh. Geralt swallowed and made a slight move, his eyes never leaving Jaskier as he fought with his indecision.
It was the same movie night they had had a million times before since college. Jaskier had finally agreed to watch the latest from a nature documentary series and had promised to try to stay awake. Even while Geralt had been filling in extra information which usually held his friend’s attention, he had still managed to slip off.
Right. They were friends. Geralt blinked a few times before he finally managed to pull his eyes away from Jaskier’s face. His nose was wrinkled and he had huffed a little. Even in his sleep, he was indigent. Geralt smiled before he could catch himself with a groan. Nothing good could come of this, but it was too good in that moment to give up. Not yet at least.
Geralt shifted again, and it made Jaskier tilt only more. He was heavier than Geralt thought he would be and if he didn’t adjust them soon, they were going to end up spooning on the couch. He thought it would be one thing if Jaskier woke up to his head on Geralt’s shoulder, but something far more dubious if he woke up in Geralt’s arms, regardless of what Geralt thought of that particular scenario or how many times he had thought about that exact thing.
Carefully, he moved just a bit closer to Jaskier so he wasn’t being pushed over by his sleeping friend. Somewhere in the shuffle, Jaskier had managed to tuck his face into the crook of Geralt’s neck, his arms wrapped firmly around Geralt’s where he squeezed it reflexively.
Geralt couldn’t help but catch the scent of Jaskier’s shampoo, or ignore the way warm breath, even and calm ghosted over the skin just below his ear. He couldn’t help the shiver that ran through him or the way his head tipped easily to lean against Jaskier’s.
Geralt drifted in the bright haze of comfortable closeness, despite the way his heart hammered in his chest. It wasn’t the smartest move but he still couldn’t bring himself to wake Jaskier. Once he was awake, he’d pull away again and tell Geralt how he should be heading home and then Geralt would be alone again in that empty apartment, kicking himself over and over for still not being able to ask Jaskier to stay. To be something… more… To be his.
He was lost in thought, losing track of what was going on with the documentary and to notice that one of the arms that was wrapped around his had shifted. It wasn’t until a warm hand, callused and strong and certainly far more sure than Geralt had ever been, slipped into his own. Their fingers laced and he had to swallow again. Jaskier had to have been dreaming of someone in particular then.
Geralt started to move again, now to untangle himself. It was one thing to give in when Jaskier was just snoozing, but this felt different.
As he started to pull away, the arm still around his pulled him gently and the breath against his neck hitched.
“Geralt,” Jaskier whispered just below his ear. If that didn’t do things to him.
“Hm?” Geralt froze, not daring to move.
“Is this,” and Jaskier squeezed his hand where their fingers were laced. “Is this okay?” Jaskier pushed in a bit closer, moving back across the space that Geralt had started to make.
Geralt hummed again and gave a squeeze back. “Do you want it to be okay?” he asked, not daring to look down, not yet.
“Have for a long time, yeah.” There was a hesitation to Jaskier’s voice but Geralt couldn’t miss the way his lips curved where they were still just brushing against his neck.
“It’s alright Jask,” Geralt squeezed again.
He turned his head just as Jaskier pulled back, just enough to look up. The screen was the only light and it made Jaskier’s eyes nearly glow. When he leaned in a bit closer, his cheek still against Geralt’s shoulder he was smiling.
“And this?” Geralt asked, letting himself lean down. Their lips were just a breath apart and he couldn’t help the way his eyes glanced down at that smile. He loved that smile, Jaskier sleep soft and content and so impossibly close.
“Geralt,” Jaskier was beaming then.
“Hm?” He almost pulled away but then there was a hand on his cheek, cupping his face like he was the soft fragile one on the couch.
“It’s alright.” And Jaskier closed the distance, kissing Geralt with that same wonderful smile.
But it was so much more than just alright, and that was perfectly alright with them.

When Lucas and Jens first fell asleep together, both of them thought it would take quite a bit to get used to another person in each other's bed. The stillness of the night often begun with Lucas laying his head on Jens' arm, tapping his fingers lightly on his chest. Jens would have his own hand, laying flat against his chest as Lucas' fingertips danced about, sometimes grazing against the empty space between his fingers, just barely touching. Their breathing was slow and sometimes when the hours of slumber drew near, Lucas would hum to himself softly. It would send small vibrations through both of their body, almost as if they were two halves of one whole.
They often argued they were.
"You make the night time feel a lot like the day." Jens whispered, on another night he found himself in Lucas' room. Neither of them knew what numbered time this one was, but loosing track of it hardly mattered. He just didn't want to go home and he hardly ever did nowadays. So, without it taking much convincing, Lucas invited him to stay the night.
The dancing fingers on his chest didn't stop, as Lucas tilted his head up to look at Jens. The dark brown eyes were almost identical to the midnight sky, so dark that with just the flicker of light from the street lamp outside made them twinkle. The shadows of the night painted over the deeper parts of his face, while the light of the moon kissed the higher points gently, illuminating them. There was no doubt that Jens was beautiful, a figure of art that Lucas could spend eons working on capturing but could never compare. To Lucas, Jens was beyond the master pieces of a gallery. Beyond the paintings of Van Gogh, the sculptures of Michelangelo and the words of poets. To Lucas, Jens was something cut out from the clouds of heaven, intertwined with the galaxies and held the rest of the world in the palm of his hands.
"What?" Lucas asked, realizing he didn't exactly reply to Jens' statement. "What does that even mean?"
"Aren't you the one learning all those cryptic meanings and metaphors in your art classes? Wouldn't you be able to know what they mean?" Jens laughed, bringing the arm that held Lucas a bit closer to him. Lucas snuggled in closer into Jens' side, sighing at the softness of his shirt and warmth under his cheek.
He giggled back. "I do. But you aren't exactly a poet Jens, so I don't know if I have the expertise to understand what you mean."
"You must be failing your classes then."
"And you're not?"
Jens snorted and pretended to give Lucas an annoyed look. Lucas only grinned, the moonlight brightening his smile to the point where Jens couldn't help but smile back. He leaned forward a bit, and kissed Lucas' forehead gently. The strands of curls that hung loose on his forehead tickled him slightly when they pressed against his forehead, but the sparks from the kiss sent waves of sweet affection through his body.
"So what do you mean by that?" Lucas asked again, this time his voice much softer and hushed. His eyelids were beginning to feel heavy as his body began to melt into the mess of comfy sheets, soft pillows and blankets that held them in a gentle huddle.
"You manage to continue you making me feel so alive. And even now, I feel like I could run a marathon." Jens explained. His last statement was quickly counteracted with a yawn. Another yawn followed, but it didn't come from Jens. Lucas didn't even realize it was his, until he felt his body begin to drift off even more.
"Not me." Lucas murmured, his eyes basically shut tight now. "Maybe tomorrow."
"Good night my sleepy boy." Jens whispered, rubbing his hand up and down Lucas' back. The other one reached over, lifting off its initial placement on his chest to nestle his fingers into Lucas' curls.
He loved it when Jens played with his hair. It was often, usually only done when they were alone together. The first time Jens had done it was while they were watching a move in Jens' room. Both of them were leaning against Jens' headboard, while Lucas leaned on his shoulder. Then, as if it was a second nature to Jens, he reached out and light twirled a curl on the top of Lucas's head as his eyes intently focused on the movie on the laptop balanced on a stack of pillows. Lucas couldn't pay much attention after that. He could only focus on the way Jens' fingers lightly tugged on the curls, the strands intertwining around his fingers and the calm ease it put his whole body into. It was then when Lucas realized Jens' love language.
Touch.
He should've known before. The way Jens always leaned against him on benches as they waited for their friends, back when they were just friends. Then it would slowly escalate, Jens reaching out to pat his back when he felt Lucas feel nervous or tense. Then eventually, holding his hand whenever he could, having a hand on his lap if they were sitting down at a table with his friends. Sometimes, before Jens let their hands swing between them as they walked, he would place a soft kiss to his knuckles. Lucas always giggled at the sentiment. It always made Jens seem sort of regal, but in his own dorky way. Whatever it was, Jens always had a soft hold on Lucas.
Maybe that was why Jens liked sleeping over a lot. Whenever Lucas woke up, Jens would still have an arm holding him as his back pressed against Jens' flat and board chest. Or, on their second night, Lucas had woken up in the exact same position he had fallen asleep in. His head just slightly on Jens' chest, Jens' fingers resting lightly on his curls as his other one laid flat on his chest, rising up and down with his slow breathing movements. Lucas had no idea how he managed to sleep through the night without tossing around at least once. And it wasn't like he was a very restless sleeper either, but he did usually end up sprawled out into a different position than the one he fell asleep in. But upon knowing that Jens had held him the whole night, his heart melted and he found himself throwing an arm around Jens' waist, hugging him. He hoped not to stir Jens awake, but another thing Lucas learned was that when Jens slept, he slept.
"Good night. I love you." He felt himself mumble before his body completely slipped into a peaceful slumber.
“I love you too.”
Lucas wasn't completely wrong. Of course Jens liked to sleepover because of his chance to hold his wonderful boyfriend in his arms. It also helped that they didn't have to be apart, which Jens was also not too keen on. But what Jens loved the most, was making sure Lucas had a blissful sleep. During the day, he would often see Lucas look a little worried, like there was something that relentlessly bothered him and couldn't keep him at ease. Lately, his brows furrowed together more, the biting of his nails was more frequent and he always seemed to have his shoulders carrying his stress. He didn't know if it was from the turmoil of dealing with his rather absent father who had wanted to have a place in his life again, his mother and her medicine being inconsistent for her episodes and the pressure for the upcoming exam season. It could even be a mix of all three.
Whatever it was, it made Lucas look a little more drained. He never looked like he got enough sleep, eye bags becoming a bit darker and the colour in his face hardly making any presence. It worried Jens, and the one thing Jens disliked more than worrying was seeing his boyfriend worry.
So, that's why he wanted to stay the night. Stay every night if he could. Besides, it's not like anybody cared if he did stay over- Jens' family often understood, knowing how lonely Lucas was in the university dorms and the dormitory policies weren't very strict about visitors. He could stay every night if he wanted to. As long as Lucas wanted him to.
And knowing Lucas, that was absolutely in the equation. Jens noticed how much Lucas loved quality time. It could be one of his love languages. Lucas had been going on about love languages for awhile now, and while Jens did his best to understand them, he still never quite got them. Could you even have more than one language? To Jens, that was possible, because that was kind of how he saw everything in-between them. It was a language of their own.
Maybe Jens should make the argument that love languages didn't exist. That the one that did was the one they shared. And whether it was touch, quality time, words of affirmation or whatever else Lucas spewed on about, they all made up the way they were affectionate towards each other.
Touch. Jens holding Lucas in the still of the night, as the whispers of tomorrow lingered around them, promising things they were not yet aware of.
Quality time. Lucas spending hours in Jens' room, even if it was just laying on his bed as he studied his boyfriend, who was too busy whipping up some sort of musical masterpieces through his headphones.
Acts of service. Jens doing his best at mixing extra amounts of acrylic paints for Lucas to use on his paintings. Sometimes, most times, they never matched and the shades always slightly differed, but Lucas would just kiss his cheek and thank him anyway. Jens would then watch him blend the colours, focusing so hard to make it work. And, through some sort of miracle, they always did.
Receiving gifts. Whenever Lucas went to his favourite art store to pick up some new supplies, he always made sure to dig around in the small sticker bin before he left. The assortment was different each time, so it was always like a fun mystery to see what theme they had going on for that week. And each time, he picked one up and gave it to Jens, who excitedly put it on his skateboard. Overtime, it began to make a rather abstract mess of a collage, but the way Jens' eyes lit up at the small gift never dulled out.
Words of affirmation. Right now, when Jens took in the sight of his sleepy boy. The way Lucas' curls fell over his face and the pillow, his breathing slow and heavy against the side of his body his cheek rested on. Jens would always take in the smoothness of his face, no worry in sight. The only thing missing was the bright blue eyes that Jens could never get enough of, and the flush of pink on his cheeks when he smiled so hard at him. Other than that, he was the embodiment of an angel that had fallen down from the heavens. Which is why, Jens always leaned over and whispered to Lucas, but more to himself.
"I like it when you sleep for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it."
And when he said those words in the still of the night, he swore the moon shown brighter and the stars danced about the twilight sky, the same way Lucas fingers danced on Jens chest.
He should probably also argue that he felt a bit more alive during the night than the day. Knowing that he had Lucas all to himself, in the way that sometimes the day prevented him from doing so. But as the night began to seep into the later part of its ours and Lucas' sleepiness transferring over to Jens, he realized now it was to time for him to drift off. So, he settled in a bit more, into the blue blankets and towards the radiating heat from his sleepy boy, and snuggled into the mess of curls that had became one of his favourite things in the world.
Short little story I wrote surrounding a head cannon that certain characters sleep standing up. Virgil is one of these characters.
It wasn’t something Patton was expecting, especially since Roman was involved. All he knew was that he left to help Thomas and, when he came back, Roman was lying face-down on the floor with a sleeping Virgil on his back. He did a double take and, yep, they were still there. He couldn’t help but want to squeal with how adorable his two kiddos looked but refrained from taking any photos when Roman shot him an annoyed look.
“You want to help me to get Sleeping Sour-Patch Kid off of me?” He asked in a slightly muffled tone. Patton knelt down and gently tugged at Anxiety’s arms which were wrapped securely around the prince’s waist. Virgil shifted and muttered sleepily, nuzzling deeper into the white fabric of Roman’s shirt. Patton “awed” a couple times but Roman decided he’d had enough and promptly rolled over. Virgil reacted immediately, waking and thrashing hard. Roman jumped to his feet and took a few steps to put distance between himself and the darker trait. Virgil hissed in annoyance at being woken up but didn’t make a move towards the fanciful trait. Instead, he curled up on the carpet and drifted off to sleep.
~~~~~
Logan wandered into the kitchen, half buried in his book when he heard Virgil’s voice coming from the living room. It sounded whiney and rather pathetic.
“Rooooooman! Why did you do that?!” Logan peered curiously around the corner to see Virgil standing up, rubbing at his eyes and Roman disappearing up the stairs. Logan glanced down at his book, memorizing the page number before snapping it closed. He approached Anxiety with more curiosity than actual concern and stopped in front of him.
“Virgil?” The boy stopped rubbing his eyes and looked up at Logan from under his bangs, “Are you alright? Is there something you need?” Virgil fastened his eyes on Logan and then gripped his shoulders. Logan tensed and blinked in surprise. The other side leaned closer,
“Just…” he paused and then let his head rest on Logan’s shoulder and wrapped his arms around the logical side’s waist, “Just don’t move.” He mumbled. Logan was about to reply when he felt Virgil relax and then his breathing even out. He realized with some shock that his fellow trait had fallen asleep! Still standing! After contemplating this for a few seconds Logan sighed and set his book aside.
“Well, this gives me an opportunity to practice solving rubric cubes one handed.” He conjured up the said object and soon was laying comfortably on the floor, Virgil resting on his chest, with the cube held before him. Patton found them like that and managed to take a few pictures before either one moved.
~~~~
Virgil sighed and uncurled from his perch on the couch and moved towards the kitchen. He’d heard a few dishes clattering and he wondered if he could utilize whomever was in the kitchen to make up for the lack of sleep he’d gotten the past two or three nights. Further investigation discovered Patton in the kitchen, just finishing with the dishwasher. Virgil smirked. Patton was probably the one who would let him do this with the least amount of fuss. He moved forward and carefully wrapped his arms around Patton from behind, letting his cheek rest on Patton’s back. The father figure gasped a bit in surprise but soon recognized the arms around his waist,
“Hey, Kiddo!” He chuckled and squeezed Virgil’s hands in his own. Virgil only let out a hum in response and then leaned against him and let his eyes slip shut. He let the warm feeling of Patton seep into his skin and the whisper of sleep called him. Patton felt the sag of weight and worry filled him, “You okay, Kiddo?” He asked quietly but got no reply. It took him a few minutes of twisting, but he eventually got Virgil’s arms out from around him as he tried to see what was making his dark son act so strangely. To his shock and slight horror, Virgil crashed to the floor. The boy jerked upright and let out a startled gasp. He looked wildly around before his eyes fastened back on to Patton who was looking at him with considerable concern. Virgil let out a yawn and rubbed his eyes sleepily. Patton blinked once and then twice.
“What was that for?” Mumbled Virgil, yawning again.
“Were you…asleep?” Patton mused. Virgil looked up at him.
“Yes, what else would I be doing?” He answered and then a look of wonder passed over his face, “Does no one else do that?” Patton shook his head and Virgil considered this for a few moments. “Huh.” He finally said and then pulled himself to his feet.
“But you can still do it if you want to!” Patton said, hoping to keep his best friend downstairs with him a little longer. Virgil looked towards him with a hesitant expression.
“I don’t want to keep you, I can see you’re busy.” He turned and began to walk away but Patton grabbed his hand.
“Just let me finish up, okay? It’ll only take a tinsy bit longer.” He smiled encouragingly and grabbed the last few cups. He put them away swiftly and then placed the dirty dishes from the sink into he device. He smiled at Virgil again and led him out into the living room. He held his arms open invitingly. The anxious trait moved into Patton’s grasp and rested his head against his shoulder. Patton smiled and hummed a little, rocking back and forth softly. Virgil found that he felt secure and safe in the embrace. He let his body relax and his eyes slip shut. Patton smiled wider as Anxiety’s breathing evened out. He slowly picked the boy up and sat down on the sofa. He sat there, stroking Virgil’s hair and smiling at the youngest side.
