Arrow and Felicity Megan “Overwatch” Smoak(Queen)

When you become part of a fandom/family, you never think of the day that it would all come to an end.  Each new season is exciting and brings a fresh wave of “Oh, I can’t wait to see where this goes!” or “Oh wow!   I can’t imagine what else this show can do.”  

This was Arrow for me.  

I’ve been here since day one.  

I remember the first promo I saw for the series when watching Vampire Diaries.  Quentin Lance called the character “Robin Hood” and that for some reason made me want to watch this show.  Growing up Superheroes were always a big part of my life, especially DC Superheroes (thanks, Dad).  But after Teen Titans ended, I forgot about the love I had for heroes.  

But then Arrow came along.  

And I was taken back to when I was a kid, waking up Saturday morning racing to the living room to turn on CW11 for the cartoon block.  This is where I would watch a good portion of the hero shows that I fell in love with.  It was always a toss up between CW11 and Cartoon Network on Saturday mornings (depended on where Teen Titans was being show, ya girl had a HUGE crush on Robin.  C’mon, who didn't?) Arrow has been more than a show for me for the past 7 years, and I’m going to tell you why.  In 2012, when Arrow first aired, I watched it every week as much as I could.  I was a junior in High school and it was difficult to keep up with it.  But I remember discovering this glitch with the CW app on my iPad that if you jumped out of the show and went back in, you could skip over the commercials (idk if this still works, let me know.  A huge blessing since my dad never let me DVR anything).  But then a huge hurricane came, flooding my house to the point where I had to live at my grandmothers for a month and was out of school for two months (I live on Long Island and you may have heard of Hurricane Sandy.  Not Super Storm, it was a devastating Hurricane).  There are no words to describe that point in my life, but the only things that were there to keep my mind off of all the devastation and rebuilding was Degrassi and Arrow.  When I finally had power again (after a month of living in the dark) the first episode I saw had none other than Salde Wilson.  aka Deathstroke, aka SLLLLAAADDDEEEEEEE *Robin’s voice/Scott Melville*.  I was so excited to see a character I recognized from my childhood.  This lead to an endless stream of googling and comic book clip readings. And I rediscovered a love that I never knew left me. But I want to talk about THE episode that shifted the momentum of Arrow.

At first, the meeting between Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak was meant to be a one-off.  Something that was never meant to happen again.  But it did.  And that’s all thanks to Emily Bett Rickards and Stephen Amell.  Two crazy kids falling into the same show at the right time.  I can’t even imagine Arrow without Felicity at this point, and Tonight we will have to say goodbye, for now (Beth, please give us hope for season 8).  I want to talk about this amazing character that changed so much for this Wednesday night, Thursday night, and Monday night show (Arrow will always be Wednesdays to me).

Felicity Smoak is the embodiment of a driven, selfless, caring, strong-willed, badass woman that I had the pleasure of looking up to since I was 16 years old (I’m now 23).  She has stared death in the face many times and kept fighting.

Season one:  We saw a woman become more than an IT girl

Season two: We saw a women become a hero

Season Three: We saw a woman fight for love 

Season four: We saw a woman fight for her life

Season five: We saw a woman grow on her own

Season six: We saw a woman bring everyone together

Season seven: We see a woman leaving her legacy

I’m already crying writing this, and I know I have so much more to say about Felicity and Arrow.  But I’m going to push through and see where season 8 will take us.  I know it’ll be tough without Felicity, but I have a difficult time jumping ship from a show just because my favorite character will be gone.  She will be missed, but the show must go on.  

But for tonight, thank you Felicity Smoak for making this young woman believe in herself and push through the toughest of time.  For it to be okay to be the smartest person in the room, to talk complete nonsense when someone should really make you stop talking, and for making it normal to look professional with an industrial piercing.  For making glasses cool again and looking badass while wearing them.

⭒ ★  Valentina Wilson ★ ⭒ Legacy

Valentina Wilson always protected her siblings. Whether it was keeping them busy while their parents fought about all the secrets her father was keeping or cleaning up the evidence of his deeds so their Mother didn’t find out. Lenny was a dutiful daughter who appeared to the blue-bloods of Gotham to be the perfect wife someday.

That all blew up when her brother Joseph is killed in the crossfire of her Father’s business. Surrounded by a grieving family and a man barely recognisable as a father anymore, Lenny makes a choice. She leaves with him. In her mind distancing him from the rest of the family is a sacrifice well worth it.

Sacrifice is definitely the name of the game. After being almost killed by a man out to hurt her Father Valentina is injected with a version of the Merikuru serum, both saving her life and changing it forever.

What’s a girl to do with the ability to control people with a simple touch and a few words? Not to mention she can lift most men over her head? You become an assassin for hire with a specialty for making things look like accidents. Effortlessly blending in with the upper-class to wipe them out for the highest bidder.

It’s the perfect life for Slade Wilson’s daughter.

That is until her newest assignment comes right from the big man himself. With an order to not ask questions and kill anyone in her way. Which would be fine if her little sister wasn’t suddenly in the cross-hairs. It’s Shakespearean irony at its best that the sister she tried to protect from her father ended up running with the Bat instead. And don’t even get her started on Dick Grayson. Can’t a girl just like a guy without her superpowers getting in the way?

As goofy as the idea is, if DC actually follows through on Damian being Slade’s son, it could be a very good thing for the Bat books.

Let me explain: Ever since Damian’s introduction, the Bat books have shifted from a focus on found family to a focus on Damian being Bruce’s “true son”, which I think we can all agree is complete garbage. The treatment of Dick, Cassandra, Jason, and Tim as “secondary” to Damian because of his genetics is insulting and goes against everything the Bat Family stands for. 

So, on the off chance that this isn't a fake out or immediately retconned, this could be a huge benefit to the Bat Family as a whole, especially if, as I think it’s clear it should be, Bruce’s treatment of Damian doesn’t change at all (or if it does, it changes only to provide him the additional support he needs to cope with this revelation). 

Also, it could very well finally knock Damian’s ego down a peg, which would be a nice bonus.

As much as i love Matt to death, it has to be Dick Grayson. Come on, we all knew that. Just his personality is more appealing to me. 

19. clint barton or oliver queen?

Oliver Queen. All the way. Whether it was in Arrow or in Justice League unlimited, I love Oliver Queen (but he sucked in season 3 and on of Arrow)

21. wade wilson or slade wilson?

God, Slade Wilson is a fave, but who doesn’t love Deadpool. I think I’ll have to go with Slade Wilson because Arrow (season 1 and 2) did him so much justice and I loved it

23. billy kaplan/teddy altman or tim drake/conner kent?

Don’t hate me, but Billy and Teddy. All the way. Y’all know how much i LOVE the young avengers, billy and teddy have a special place in my heart, plus, Timkon isn’t big to me
