working on the chapter, specifically the conversation with yoosung, and i’m writing some possibilities for when he’s talking about how it’s hard to wrap his head around rika not only being alive but also doing all this, and how it’s so incredibly different from anything he could’ve ever, ever, ever expected from rika.

and he talks about ‘the rika he knew,’ and how she made him want to Do More; how she seemed to devote her life to charity and helping others and how that influenced him (and maybe a touch of the whole ‘my aunt and uncle are reprehensible human beings and i thought it was even more admirable that she got away from them and didn’t let that bring her down but i guess i was wrong, and would this have happened if i’d noticed?? if i’d helped?? if anyone had helped?? what if—‘ thing) and how he’s tried to live up to that since she died, and the revelation that she’s not dead, she’s alive and she’s been running a cult is — truly fucking unfathomable. and the reader gets the sense that he’s doing his best to just…. not unravel completely right now.

and i think about how so much of this was reduced to ‘wow yoosung you like your cousin a bit too much haha gross’ and i am mad and sad all over again
