TW: Drug withdrawal and violence
Another lil snippet from my Muggle AU thing I have going on in my head, feels nice to have these little bits and bobs written down. Really enjoying playing with characterisation and trying out new things.
“Where is she?” Sirius demanded pacing up and down the small waiting room outside the solicitor’s office, he ran his hands through his hair and stopped in front of Regulus sitting in an armchair, flicking through a book.
Regulus looked up to meet the desperate gaze of his brother and he shrugged. “Just sit down Sirius, you are being dramatic.” He replied lazily, and looked back down at his page.
Sirius threw his hands upwards, “Dramatic? She’s over an hour late Reg, and she hasn’t replied to a single text message I’ve sent her.”
Regulus rolled his eyes, “Fine, I’ll ring her.” He sighed, putting his phone to his ear. “anything to stop this” he muttered looking Sirius up and down.
“If she didn’t answer for me why would she for yo…” He was cut off as Regulus spoke into the phone, shooting Sirius a cocky look.
“Morning Ce..oh Percy” Regulus replied with surprise.
Sirius quickly squeezed next to his brother in the armchair putting his ear next to the phone while avoiding Regulus’ flaying arms trying to get him away.
“She ran?…shit” Regulus pinched the top of his nose and sighed deeply.
Sirius still unable to hear the call almost climbed on Regulus’ lap mouthing to him to put the speaker on.
Regulus tried to ignore the commotion nodding along to what Percy was saying while continuing to bat at Sirius, “Just go away” he finally snapped unable to concentrate on the phone call. Sirius got up, pulled a face at Regulus and started to pace again.
“No not you Percy, yes I heard what you said, no I’m sure you did everything you could, I have a few ideas where she could be, yes I’ll keep you in the loop, right okay, bye.” Regulus hung up the phone and looked towards his brother and grimaced.
“She ran out of the car while it was at traffic lights,” Regulus informed Sirius who had now stopped pacing. “She left her phone behind, Percy said he’s been walking the streets but has no clue where she was running to.”
“Why was the door even unlocked?” Sirius demanded a sudden wave of anger replacing his worry.
“She’s not a prisoner Sirius” Regulus replied.
“Fuck” Sirius rubbed at his knuckles, he looked down deep in thought. “Okay I’ll file the missing person’s case, you start to see if you can…”
Regulus snorted and Sirius shot him a frustrated look, “Are you hearing yourself right now? Look I know this is new to you, but it isn’t for me, she needs time, she’ll turn up when she wants to be found, we can’t file a report what if the press gets ahold of it? It’ll be mayhem.” He picked his book back up.
Sirius smacked the book out of Regulus’s hands. “Our sister is missing, and you just want to wait? After all we have been through? Anything could have happened.” Sirius shouted.
“She ran out of the car 30 minutes ago, she’s hardly missing,” Regulus replied dryly but then sighed in defeat as he looked into Sirius’ desperate eyes. “Fine, okay” He stood up. “We will go and look, I’ll call a driver, suppose we better start with Barty.”
Sirius’s eyes narrowed at the mention of the name. Regulus just rolled his in response.
Regulus picked up his phone to dial when the doors of the waiting room opened and both brothers turned towards them. In came a concerned-looking Barty Crouch holding up a shaking Celeste Black, he didn’t acknowledge the two brothers instead putting Celeste in a chair close by the door, he knelt in front of her and used his sleeve to wipe the sweat droplets from her brow.
“Well, speak of the fucking devil and he shall appear” Sirius cried as he stormed over to Barty pulled him up by the back of his hoodie and punched him straight in the face.
