it has been one week since I got my forearm crutches. here's some things that have changed since switching from my cane to my crutches:
they help my pain so much more than just using the cane! having support for both legs w/o subluxing my shoulder rocks
smart crutches lead to cool conversations with other disabled people
abled people cannot stop staring at me. with my cane I got less stares and more intrusive questions. with the crutches people stare more AND ask intrusive questions
I've already been told I cannot do things at work bc my crutches pose a "safety hazard." that never happened when I just had my cane
i take up more space when walking around & it's weird to get used to
old people keep asking me where I got them. no one ever asked that about my cane
so i present to you, the will wood crutches! the left is based off SELF-iSH and the right is based off everything is a lot.
just plain black smart crutches and acrylic paint!

[Image ID: four pictures showing a pair of painted forearm crutches.
- The first photo is of Kennith (white man with short, messy blonde hair. wearing blue eye shadow, and scribbles on his face in multiple colors), standing with xyrs arms crossed looking at the camera with his head tilted to the side while holding the crutches leaning slightly forward on them. He is wearing a red and black striped button down, tucked into black skinny jeans, a black belt, and black cape with blue lining. Xe has rings on every finger.
- The second photo is of both of the crutches laying on a piece of cardboard. The SELF-iSH one on the left, and the everything is a lot one on the right.
- The third photo is just the SELF-iSH crutch. It has an eye painted in the middle, with diagonal stripes of purple and blue next to it. On the top above the eye, and to left of the purple stripes is a block of green with yellow dots, and to left at the very end of the crutch is a block of red.
- The fourth, final photo, is of the everything is a lot crutch. It has a simple black and white striped cartoonish tapeworm, like the one on the album cover. Which takes up most of the crutch, but it also has a small eye in the farthest right corner.
Despite the rain hammering down, I managed to have a wander in town. My SmartCrutches are much more comfortable than my old ones, and allow me to walk further.
I’ve booked in my next tattoo for the 8th of March; very excited for that.
Went to see my grandparents for a couple of hours which was nice, bless them. Also my sister was home so I spent some time with her, she’s pretty cool.
My boyfriend is coming to stay the night tonight which will be lovely.
Tomorrow night I’m staying with my best friend as it’s her Grandma’s birthday on Sunday and I’ve got her presents. I believe we’re all off for a meal together. @forever-struggling24-7 ‘s family have adopted me, and my family have adopted her. So I’m very much looking forward to that.
All in all, a positive day so far, and lots of things to look forward to.
Hope all of you lovely followers are well, stay golden x
after walking around my house for a while w the smartcrutches my honest thought is that I had better like these better in the morning because they cost me a ton.
like, they're comfy and good on my joints for sure. but they're sooo much heavier than the other crutches I got, and I'm pretty fatigued on a daily basis. I would just use them when needed but honestly my other crutches are pretty damn cheap and if I'm going to use them longterm I'm going to have to invest in a better pair.
