"movie snape is way better than book snape, i hate book snape" is soooo hilarious coming from self-proclaimed "snape fans".

book snape is canon. he's the ONLY version that is truly canon and you know why? because if no movies had been made, you'd be stuck with book snape. not alan rickman's. i will always respect rickman as an actor and the performance he delivered for snape but his snape's a third of the "real" character, there are so many elements of his personality that have been completely ignored in the movies. and don't twist my words, you can decide to prefer one over the other but stop pretending like you care about severus snape when you cannot stand the OG. the point of severus is that he is unpleasant in every way, he's not a sex-god hot daddy dom AI boyfriend. that's such a snapewives take.

Honestly, I think what grinds my gears most about Snape discourse is the complete black and white view most of the fandom has. Yes, he was horrifically abused in his childhood at both home and school. Yes, he was watching out for Harry when he was at school and worked as a spy for Dumbledore to help defeat Voldemort. But he also terrorized his students on the daily. For fucks sake he was Nevilles boggart, He only became a spy to save his childhood crush, not her and her family, just her. He is not completely evil. He did good things. But he was also part of a terrorist organization that believed in the segregation of muggleborns and the genocide of muggles. He was a gray character. He wasn't a saint, but he was not the devil either. It's so annoying that the fandom can't comprehend that |=[

I do feel a lot of snape fans underestimate his cruelty, which I kinda get because its his most gross aspect, specially towards harry, for me it reaches its peak in hbp when snape makes harry go through sirius and james's school records, no matter how rightious his hatred of both is, snape is pupously triggering harry, the wounds of sirius's death still fresh, and this is all after snape knows~ that harry has to die within a year or so.

Thats brutal, I also do think he was making fun of harry's abuse during the occlumency lessons, he is capable of it. All of this is why I feel very uncomfortable when parts of the snapedom try to rationalizr snape's treatment of harry or say that somehow harry participated to create the animosity ("snape is angry because harry puts his life in danger") there is nothing rational about it and thats...fine, snape is a character that is cruel to children, gotta deal w it.

I’ve seen a fair few folks, upon receiving pushback on an their unsupported “hot takes” on Snape, say that because there’s nothing explicitly disproving their claims, their interpretations are just as valid. Yeah, no… that’s not how it works.

Strong claims require strong evidence. If you make a claim about Snape that gives rise to contradictions in the text, is thematically inconsistent, fails to account for what Snape does or says, or ignores a simpler and more coherent explanation for his actions, it’s not an equally sound take, whether or not it’s explicitly disproven.

How is it okay to laugh your ass off when you see Harry accidentally release a boa on Dudley but horrendous for an angry 10 year old Severus Snape to drop a branch on Petunia?

How is it cool for Harry to be sneaking around and trying to see what Malfoy's up to but not acceptable when Snape does the same?

How is it acceptable for Draco to hurl the slur "mudblood" around like a joke and to hurt people but monstrous when Snape says it once after he was humiliated and choked?

How is it funny when the marauders try to kill Snape but not when Snape tries to arrest a seemingly "criminal" Sirius Black?

How is it justified for McGonagall to take 150 points from Gryffindor and unfair when Snape takes 5 for bad behaviour?

How is it understandable for Lupin to forget to take a potion that would ensure the safety of students and unfathomable for Snape to have outed him after he almost killed children?

How is it cute that Slughorn had a literal club for his faves and horrible when Snape prefers and believes Draco over Harry?

How is Regulus Black considered a hero for defecting to save his house elf and Snape is just an incel when he changes sides for Lily?

How is it amazing and 'power-couple material' when you ship Lily with someone who held her best friend's safety as leverage and threatened to hex her but gross when we ship her with someone who was genuinely friends with her?

How is it alright to excuse Harry being rude because of his trauma and then villify and ignore Snape's childhood?

How is it rational for Remus to slam Harry against a wall after he called him out but abusive when Snape throws a jar at Harry for looking at his memories without permission?

How is it "harmless" when James sexually assaulted, choked and hung Snape upside down but a "murder attempt" when Snape slashes James cheek in self defense?

How is it okay for the fandom to hold such double standards for ugly and poor characters?

I'm gonna say it

The fact that Snape "gave as good as he got" (according to one of his bullies) does not, in fact, justify the bullying. Even if it is true.

Fighting back and defending himself did not make him 'just as bad' as the Marauders, nor does it mean that what happened between them was a rivalry rather than what it actually was: vicious bullying.

People need to stop attempting to justify the Marauders behaviours using the fact that Snape didn't lie down and take their abuse like a good little victim.

All the while you bring attention to their weird, poorly written, excuses for this and that for hating snape, the more they write for more of a reaction.

You'll end up hating the fandom because you only engage and interact with the side of the fandom that hates you back. Literally, just stop it.

I cannot express enough why you should literally mute any and all words to do with anti snape crap and why you should tag any discourse posts with said tags, regardless.

We all complain that the Severus Snape tag is filled with hate, only to go fill it with third person hate ourselves? Please, tag your discourse posts, and stop interacting with Snaters.
