what is going on with johnny and arasaka?
no, seriously. we know from the cyberpunk continuity that the bombing of ahq was not johnny's idea. he wasn't even part of the main team during that whole operation. we know adam smasher killed him, but not in the way he remembers in 2077. he wasn't the one to arm the bomb (that was most likely blackhand), and he wasn't the one to free alt either (that was spider murphy). so why does everyone in 2077 act like the whole gig was his plan? i'm not even talking johnny's altered memories -- i'm talking rogue somehow remembering johnny falling out of the helicopter in her ending when that never happened, i'm talking saburo arasaka mentioning johnny in his diary, i'm talking yorinobu arasaka somehow having a reason for johnny being on the construct in his messages to netwatch, i'm talking the shards you can find speculating on johnny's involvement in the scheme, i'm talking how there's a legend of a man split in half come to haunt arasaka employees, i'm talking how almost every single character seems to equate the bombing of arasaka in 2023 with johnny silverhand when he was only a small portion of the blackhand-militech plan.
did he become the scapegoat for the members of the team that survived the bombing? we know rogue ended up working with the corps to keep her life and her status as the queen of fixers, we know blackhand is off grid but still out there somewhere. we also know that johnny was one of the most vocal members of the operation about his hatred of corporations.
this also leads me to wonder if it was arasaka themselves that altered johnny's memories on the engram to fit this narrative. is it ultimately easier for them to pin the blame on one terrorist rather than their greatest corporate rival? or maybe it was militech that pushed the idea, not wanting to take the blame for a nuclear bomb?
