Has anyone asked about Ippei yet? Ippei is another of my favorites especially for their fun FEH anniversary artwork
No one has yet, so honestly thank you for giving me an opportunity to talk about another godly FEH artist.
Soeda Ippei is another one of FEH's artists I'd consider to be one of the most highly skilled, like I consider the book artists (I'd actually rank them higher than Book 4's artist, not in a mean way but just due to their overall work). The main ways you can recognize Ippei's artwork is:
Their unique coloring style; Ippei is a painter. Like Akihiro, I would argue that Ippei's also got a unique coloring style that stands out more than other artists in the game.
Their talent at drawing some BEEFY men.
Every single piece that we've seen from Ippei is high-quality and badass. Aside from aforementioned coloring, the anatomy checks out, and the FACES. The details on the faces is probably the most detail you'd see over any other FEH artist. Wrinkles, muscles, cheekbones, the faces are very pronounced and a great example of this is Garon, Walhart, and Travant.
There's at least two criticisms I would argue against Ippei's artwork (Forgive me ;w;) for the sake of fairness:
The poses on some of the artwork, like Walhart, Garon, and Halloween Dorcas, are a bit underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, the stances are rooted and powerful but they're not very dynamic. For a game like FEH that relies on the portraits to give the gameplay some energy, having stances like that makes it a little harder to get that feeling.
For the same of fairness, I will say that Ippei hasn't had much variety in terms of also drawing women (I've brought this argument up for artists who only drew women and didn't draw men so I have to be balanced... even against a FEH artist I really REALLY like). But in Ippei's defense, they ARE able to draw women as you can see on their Twitter. So I don't know if this would count as criticism or not, that's up to you.
All in all, Ippei's a very solid 9.999999/10 or 10/10. And personally, I'd love for Ippei to be in charge of a future Book's artwork.
So much power in one image
