Animation principle #11 is “Solid Drawing” which is largely about thinking of your animation space as if it is a solid 3D space. You don’t want your characters looking flat. Practicing turnarounds like this often give a good display of solid drawing. This one is simple, but since it’s my first time doing a turnaround, I’m actually quite happy with it!
Things I learned:
lining things up is helpful
literally thinking in 3D is helpful to make sure that stuff like fluffy leaf-hair looks like what it should be
when you flip the image, make sure that what’s on the right/left of the body stays where it should be
This character is an OC of mine! His name is Julz, and he’s a plant-person :3

we talked about solid drawing in my life drawing class yesterday so i had to practice (its not perfect but i feel like i’m getting a grip on it!!)
Life drawing from across the weeks that I submitted to my formative assessment.
Life drawing completed last Thursday, was proud of the perspective I did in these.
animate with me #2
animation principles: staging, exaggeration, appeal, solid drawing
This principles all talk about other aspects of animation, not directly relating to the process.
Staging is how everything is placed in a frame, the angle of the camera and how the presentation improves what you are trying to say.
Appeal talks about making an animation that interests the audience and makes them want to continue watching. To infuse even an inanimate object with an interesting personality.
Exaggeration talks about exaggerating reality in order to improve your animation, often making it more appealing.
And solid drawing talks about drawing a character as if they are a 3d object physically within the room.
This is a piece i draw to demonstrate these principles.
As a primarily 2d artist I have long sinse been practicing these principles, as they have just as much relevence in 2d art.
In this piece there are 3 characters. One of which is close to the camera. All of them are doing different things in the scene, relating to their character. From the centre ones nonchelance, to the one at the backs cautious intrigue. It shows good staging and appeal. My weakest aspects would probably be solid drawing, as some of the characters don’t hold themselves correctly, such as the one closest. Because of the angle i can’t tell if i drew the shoulder wrong or not.
