Demonstrators in New York have disrupted the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, calling for a free Palestine! 🇵🇸
Calling to mind the genocide that white settlers carried out on Native Americans, they held a banner reading "Genocide Then, Genocide Now."
“God is under the rubble in Gaza. He is with the frightened and the refugees. He is in the operating room. This is our consolation. He walks with us through the valley of the shadow of death.”
– Rev. Dr. Munther Isaac, in his sermon “God is under the rubble in Gaza.”
I made this painting of the manger scene created by Rev. Dr. Isaac’s church, Christmas Lutheran Church in Bethlehem, with the Christ child under the rubble (original image here).

given the long tradition of jewish labour activism i've sort of just adopted it as an inherently jewish value but this did lead to a recent interaction where someone was like "are you a union member?" and i went "yeah? i'm jewish?"
Every so often I need to rewatch Pride (2014) to remind myself that 1) solidarity can happen, SUCCESSFULLY, and 2) they had to manufacture drama for the movie because IRL everyone worked together so well it was narratively underwhelming, and 3) Jonathan Blake was the second person in Britain diagnosed with AIDS and he's still alive as of this writing. Also I cry EVERY time at the scene near the end with Cliff and Hefina. This is my favorite Imelda Staunton performance.
hey, quick clarification, because i know full adults in real life who are confused about this:
USAmerican Labor Day has nothing to do with veterans or the military.
It's about the WORKERS.
the fucking military-cultural complex has overtaken so much in this goddamn country, they already have like four "holidays" dedicated to their bullshit. they get special privileges and discounts and fucking parking spaces every day of the year.
today is NOT FOR THEM.
today is for the vast majority of us, who live from paycheck to paycheck and are three bad months away from homelessness and don't get any special treatment or recognition for breaking our bodies to further enrich the wealthy. it's for the overworked and underpaid and exploited folks who are doing their best from day to day. it's for everyone who died to bring us OSHA and unions and a 40-hour work week. it's for miners and welders and cashiers and waitstaff. it's for everyone who's ever walked a picket line. it's for those of us subjected to mandatory anti-union training because the overseers fear what we can do through collective action. it's for the workers.
fuck the military. fuck the capitalists. Labor Day is for us.
