Episode Thoughts…

Positives:

1. Robert looked really nice in that scene with Joe. Stick him outside and with the wind in his hair and all that.

2. Aaron also looking nice today.

3. Robert and Aaron got to exist for a whole 2 minutes.

4. Moira was weirdly nice about them today.

5. Mary got to exist.

6. The name “Maltese Falcons” gave me a laugh. I want to see this darts match though!

7. Ruby got to exist and talk about her dream of turning the pub into an upscale wine bar and restaurant. Bless her.

8. Caleb got to exist and actually think about the locals and how they wouldn’t want their local pub to be turned into that.

9. No idea where it’s going but I liked that Caleb could see through Charity and see she was in trouble.

10. I still enjoy Sarah hating Dr Todd.

11. Baby Leyla is still cute.

12. Joe calling Cain enfeebled was kind of funny because Cain is annoying me still.

As for the rest…

I mean what is there to say about the arson plot really?? Haha. They were really pointing at it being Kyle today. I wonder if they’ll move away from that so we stop suspecting him or if he really will be a red herring. He should go torch Home Farm instead. That could be fun.

I saw people being excited that robron were in all week and going to be the A plot and I laughed to myself because A plot?! Really?! Haha. Proven correct so far. Maybe they’ll get more later but I won’t get my hopes up. This feels background at best until they discover it’s ultimately Kyle and then it will be about Cain like everything else.

Moira is giving me whiplash with how her opinions on people and situations change. I kind of don’t even care enough to comment on it all cause she’ll just change her tune again tomorrow. I’m tired.

Cain is still obnoxious. I just…I don’t care. Drink and orange juice and stop your whining. I’m annoyed with Sam too for that shovel but I kind of liked that he tattled to Moira to come and collect him.

Joe with all his fake concern for Cain is kind of funny because Cain is pissing me off but also infuriating because Robert gets a shovel to the head and blanked in the village but Joe so far gets nothing.

And now Moira was Dawn to just cut and run. Under the guise of caring about Dawn all of a sudden but it also just feels like she’s trying to control the situation so Joe loses something to maybe placate Cain. I’d rather Cain make Sam hit Joe with a shovel at this point. Maybe he can hit him in the one kidney for Caleb.

I’m still at a loss with Dr Todd. I guess Joe Warren Plant is just on holiday or something so they’re ticking this story along with this Charity blackmail plot but also…are they? Is this going to go back to her torturing Jacob again at some point or does she not care anymore? Which makes the fact that they billed this as a workplace bullying story even more ridiculous.

Like all of the Dr Todd stuff and the Cain stuff is…fine…but it’s not really interesting. If characters had better emotions and motivations and relationships and all of the things that make it more about the characters and not just plot for plot’s sake, I might care more but it all feels very empty a lot of the time.

Also..seeing Nicola just makes me sad now.

How much screen time is Jimmy going to get before they unceremoniously kill him off?

In the secret loft video this month, they implore the viewer to join the wonderhole discord, where more discussion happens, "theories, ...et cetera"

Basically saying "PLEASE THEORISE! USE YOUR BRAINS"

Interesting. It's not their first call. Before Wonderhole 2 started they also urged viewers to comment and engage with the content, to try and understand it. They had also said it during the first season. They were repeatedly asking us to write down our thoughts about the show in the comments. And people apparently (*sighs*) thought they meant to leave compliments and then Rhett and Link said - despite the positive reception they were enjoying from the viewers: "We are not receiving the feedback / response that we are looking for".

So. They have always wanted interpretation. Not (only) praise. I mean, this is what I have always been saying but it's a bit much to ask from the viewers from a moral aspect, isn't it... even I have always hesitated to make any implication in the youtube comments. I enjoy this mental exercise but their story is their own journey and I don't like this insistence of theirs to have the viewers share their burden, it's like they are assigning us to do the outing for their shake. And the reason I dislike this is because you never know what to expect ftom them, with their history of backpedalling and occasional fan / shipper mocking.

Asksksksk your take on lesson 16 Belphie hits the nails in my coffin 🖤

Belphie and lucifer are the 2 characters i dont like in the game. One threatened me and tried to kill me (over a child for touching a booklet; luke didnt know what it was too and lucifer was gonna throw hands with a child) and the other actually succeeded. Like byeee Felicia and dont ever come try to reconcile it ain’t happening 🏃‍♀️

im Glad we got the pact but its to keep yo ass at arms length. We cannot be besties and they cannot ride or die with me. Ill leave devildom hugging everyone except belphie and lucifer, they can choke🥲

unfortunately i loooooooove luci~ he's in fact one of my favorites, right up there with satan, who threatens to cut your nose and ears off for not making a pact with him and diavolo, who's responsible for both your kidnapping and your death (he knew that lucifer locked belphie up, he knew why, and he still sent you back to "check").

it is not actually the level of assholery that determines how much i hate a character. is is the level of hotness combined with the appeal of their personality.

also, i think motives are important. in my mind, lucifer's murder attempts are bad and i want him to grovel for forgiveness 100%... but they ARE forgivable. it wasn't personal. he was trying to protect his family.

like, imagine you're on a sinking ship, and a man steals your life jacket from you to put on his son who doesn't have one.

it's bad absolutely, i'd be pissed and i'd hate him for it, but it's not bad in the way it would be if he just stole it, threw it overboard, and laughed.

belphie tbh doesn't have visual appeal to me, his personality doesn't do much for me, and the arc surrounding his motives and character development in lesson 16 felt... well, non-existent.

one of my bestest friends in fandom simps for him, and she still writes him with a ton of appeal, so it's not a deal-breaker entirely, but at my core lesson 16 is always where i go and i would never seek out fic/etc. for him specifically.

those are my feelings on it anyways. your feelings are totally valid and it's fair to hate lucifer even under these circumstances (it's also totally fair if you don't agree with the metaphor, either!). not all characters are for everyone!

I'm recently seeing posts where they write "BBC Sherlock fans don't Interact" and. Idk I guess I'm just confused? And wanted to ask someone also in the fandom.

Why would someone not want other fans interacting? We all love the same charecters? We all love Sherlock and Watson? Why does it make a difference how you got to know them?

Idk. You see the same in the star trek fandom. People who got into trek will sometimes say "IF YOU LIKE DISCO YOUR NOT A TRUE FAN" and it never made sense to me cause like. We both like the same show? We just got into it differently?

Yeah, it's SUPER weird, but it's their blog, so and whatever makes them happy. It could be a variety of reasons: perhaps they had a bad experience and it's for their own mental health (which is completely valid) OR it could be the alternative and they just prefer to be in an echo-chamber, which I think is a not-good thing, but again, not my blog and not my choice.

A very small (and loud) minority of people think only the BBCS fandom is the "most toxic" fandom on Tumblr as if any other sect of any fandom doesn't have toxic people in it, or, on the flip side of the coin, they're very militant about the "purity" of fandom (and I won't go into that at all, because it's upsetting and gross). Hell, I found out years ago (and still recently) I'm blocked by a big name popular Benedict blog simply because of my username, and I have NEVER previously interacted at all with them, nor have I ever tagged any of their Ben posts with Sherlock tags because the one time I tried to reblog from them, I couldn't (even though like.... I checked the tags of the posts and a lot more controversial tags are on those posts than I ever would have put on them). It's so ridiculous, BUT it's their right and their blog, so I suck it up and move on, their loss. I'm too old to care anymore. I get salty for 2 seconds when I realize I can't reblog a post still, and then move on.

Granted, in the hey-day of the Sherlock fandom, it was a goddamned mess, lots of in-fighting and harassment, and a lot of cliques and gatekeeping and "if you're not this, then you're that" thinking, and I understand if they probably had a bad experience from that. Nowadays, though, I find it's a lot more community-focused in the parts of the fandom I lurk in because it is all about sharing our love for all versions of Holmes, and I try to encourage interactivity here.

Maybe I just have dealt with so much shit in my life that after 40 years it just... I'm tired. I don't CARE. I just want to enjoy my time here now, and I do that by creating a blog I enjoy. Just as those people who have "dni"'s on the posts, in a way, I suppose, are creating a place they can be happy in. I may not agree with it, and I can have contradictory opinions about it, but again, not my place to tell them how to run their blogs, and that's that. I would be a hypocrite if I said otherwise, since I have told people before "it's my blog, if you don't like it, block me and be happy". So, as I said, be salty, and move on, their presence (or lack there-of) is not worth your time, especially when 90% of the fandom is generally welcoming and encourages interaction and community and a general love for all-things-ACD/Holmes.

On the point of "real fans", I've discussed "real fans" before, and how fucking stupid this term is. There's no such thing; I still consider myself a Sonic fan (the first fandom I was ACTIVELY a part of in the same capacity as I am in this one), even though it's been years since I engaged in fandom content.... if you want to talk about toxic fandoms... WOOO be part of the Sonic fandom in the late 90s/early naughts.... EEE. The term, to me, just screams "gatekeeping" to the worst degree. It's in all media types of fandom too: Music, TV, books, movies, SPORTS... I can't even.

So on that count, Nonny, I'm just as confused as you are. If that's the case, then I guess I'm not a fan of Star Trek either because I've only watched TNG and own the complete first-distribution box sets with the coloured sides that were 100$ each season, know really stupid nitpicks and facts about TNG, and only watched the TNG movies and the new-Trek movies, all 6 of which I own and watch and love dearly... But nope, not a real fan because I don't like TOS. *shrugs*. Fucking ridiculous.

The way I see it, you spent money and time into and/or got ENJOYMENT from an IP, then you're a fan. Period, end of sentence.

ANYWAY, all that said, Nonny, I understand it's super upsetting to see those kind of things, especially if we're just here to make friends and talk about the things we all have in common, but we don't know their situation or personal history with the fandoms themselves. If they don't want to interact with you, then it's their right to not do so. Just continue on your merry way; there's WAY more people who DO want to chat than there are not. And, if some day they choose to want to interact with various sectors of the fandom, then we can only welcome them and show them the GOOD stuff we have to offer: fanfiction, fanart, gifsets, silly posts, and just all around good cheer. And in the case of my blog, MAYBE show them that some of us are just as disappointed about BBC Sherlock too, hahah.

Okay I’ll journey back into negativity a bit to say this—I think I would have dealt with my specific disappointments in s7 if the rest of it felt...organic? It really was a case of “too much story.” Honestly, if the rest of the season felt as good and engaging as the past ones, I probably would have finished it the first time. But tbh for me parts of it dragged, and the character relationships felt off (not in a ‘shippy way,’ just in general), so I didn’t feel the drive to continue that I normally do. Granted, I haven’t finished it yet (though I know what happens and I skipped a head to several scenes) and I would like to because I think I’ll like some of it. I’m not even saying “this season was bad and that’s it” because I can def see why some would really enjoy it, and I love that people did! I’m just surprised that I didn’t. Btw, this is all coming from someone who hadn’t been disappointed by any season before now! Really, this is the first one I don’t like.

GOT S7 Premiere

Okay, so is anyone going to talk about how fast Euron was able to build AN ENTIRE FLEET? Wtf.

Also, I’m very bitter about how Dragonstone suddenly looks like a paradise island now that Stannis no longer lives there.

Speaking of Stannis, why the fuck did Sam even need to go to the Citadel? (I mean aside from giving the showrunner’s a reason to show diarrhea and retching noises a lot? Ugh.) Sam said it himself: Stannis TOLD HIM ABOUT THE DRAGONGLASS ON DRAGONSTONE. Ugh.

Also, if it had been Sansa travelling by herself and she happened upon a band of male soldiers, who’s betting it would have been a cute moment with singing and rabbit meat and laughter? Not me. I’m not angry that Arya’s having a decent time on the road, I’m really glad for her, but it just seems so unfair that Arya is never punished for choosing to trust men, while Sansa pretty much always is. Sigh.

BUT: HOW AWESOME WAS THE FREY MASSACRE?

HOW AWESOME WAS EVERYTHING SANSA SAID? I mean, both her scene with Jon and Petyr were just A+.

I also kind of enjoyed the Lannister stuff in King’s Landing, even with Euron being all weird. Cersei painting that map on the floor was cool. Jaime being like: “Sooooo, are we going to mourn or talk... or something? Anything?” was cute.

Also, the Hound dragging that guy’s man bun was epic. And making fun of rum-drinking guy. And generally just Sandor being great. He is fun. But also sad because dead people. :(

And Bran!! Bran was awesome! Can’t wait for him to reunite with his sibs. :D
