"The first inkling Kakashi had that something might be wrong with his kids was when he arrived at the academy 3 hours late to find the pink-haired civilian girl systematically dipping senbon in various liquids that he assumed had to be poison, chatting amicably with the two boys, and the loner-revenger-flight-risk was leaning against Naruto’s legs, head practically in the blond boy’s lap while Naruto deftly braided and unbraided the Uchiha’s hair."
Here's the colored version of the fanart sketch I did based on @themidnightguardian 's fanfic called "Teenagers scare the living shit out of me" (chapter 1, first scene specifically). It's a short, funny and slightly unhinged time travel AU I love to read again and again, it always cheers me up.
I honestly wasn't planning on ever rendering the sketch any further, and really thought that I might get out of my yearly Naruto phase soon, but 10 hours on Clip Studio Paint later and here I am. And to be fair, despite everything that still makes me sigh (a desk went missing at some point I think?), I have to admit I'm quite happy with the general feeling & even managed to fix Sakura's face which had been bugging me. Apparently my idea of "poison container" is very much stuck in the cartoon/DnD corner. The text on the posters is absolute gibberish of course.
Kakashi : Maa~ (⌒_⌒ ; ) Sakura : Come on~ I wanna know, tell us everything ! Now ! ʘ‿ʘ Iruka : Yeah~ Kakashi, give us some flavour, tell us ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° ) Naruto : Hell yeah, I knew was right, pay up ! ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ Sasuke : You're gonna fall of the tree, idiot (〃ー〃)
So fanart is the way to get out of an art block, but then again, there's the high risk of getting stuck in the fast lane for me, so more Naruto fanart it is till I manage to swerve out of the line (and get stuck in the Zelda or Lord of the Rings lane I guess).
To be honest, I haven't read Boruto, mainly because I hated the designs I'd seen for the adult Naruto characters, which I still find so damn boring. Anyway, have some intermediary aged Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi and Iruka; I'm guessing the first three are in their thirties or something.
I actually started this picture because I wanted to rework my Sakura design, and in the end she's the one you can see the least of, lol.
Who has an idea what they're talking about?
Thank the heavens for leaf brushes.
Poses are a mix of two pictures (groupe casual and casual friends ) by @adorkastock again, because her gallery is a gold mine.
"Aren't you glad there's a frontline medic around ?
I spent the last five hours on colouring this lineart I did yesterday, and it was fun! I had forgotten how much fun I got out of drawing before...
Fanart ireally is the best way to get out of art blocks.
Becoming an adult is when you stop hating Sakura, realize she's been done dirty by canon all along, and just decide to stick to whatever you think the best fanon adaptation is. Mine is slightly unhinged and uses senbon.
I feel like I used to be more original in the clothing departement, but I guess for now I'll have to go with a slightly modified version of a mixture of her uniforms. Don't think too hard on how the fabric of her dress works, I have no idea myself. I spent way to much time on her tattoo, haha.
Pose was very very much inspired by an @adorkastock low angle pose which I felt really strongly about.
Naruto did as she commanded, sliding the green haori on and getting a feel for it. The material was every bit as comfortable as it looked, and the flow of it as he moved was nice. Sakura’s hands landed on his shoulders, and he let her guide him to look in the mirror. He blinked. (...) I look like a real shinobi, Naruto thought. “Ah, good,” Kakashi-sensei said, appearing from nowhere just as quietly as Sasuke had. “You’ve discovered colors that aren’t going to burn out my retinas. Excellent. Are we satisfied?”
Here's a scene from chapter 7 of @themidnightguardian 's fanfiction "How to Redeem Your Past Mistakes, Commit Mild Treason, and Accidentally Build a Family" . I took some liberties with it, I feel like Sakura and Sasuke also deserved a shopping montage, haha.
I remember now why I spent the first 25 years of my life forgoing sleep : it was the fucking *~*Zone TM*~* and the unhealthy coping mechanisms. Did you know I have a lot of very important stuff to do?
"The first inkling Kakashi had that something might be wrong with his kids was when he arrived at the academy 3 hours late to find the pink-haired civilian girl systematically dipping senbon in various liquids that he assumed had to be poison, chatting amicably with the two boys, and the loner-revenger-flight-risk was leaning against Naruto’s legs, head practically in the blond boy’s lap while Naruto deftly braided and unbraided the Uchiha’s hair."
So I've been stuck in a Naruto phase for some months, and been re-reading all my favourite fanfics. Here's a fanart sketch based on @themidnightguardian 's one called "Teenagers scare the living shit out of me" (chapter 1, first scene specifically) which I come back to quite often, because it's relatively short, funny and has the slightly unhinged quality I love to find in time-travel AUs. It's really hard to draw kids, actually.
Edit 01.05.24 : Here's the colored version
Happy nearly halloween everybody, here's a random Kakashi I drew instead of doing my many many chores.
I suffer from the chronic 3/4 portrait disease, which has at no point in life helped me get better at the dreaded second eye lol. I never managed to get the teeth on the mask to look like I wanted, so I toned them all the way down.
Back to work I go!
Edit 05/11/2024 : Added a version without the teeth motif
On instinct, he put his head on Gimli’s shoulder, and felt him drop off almost immediately. (...) Before he did fall into Elvish sleep, he heard Gandalf say, very quietly (but not quietly enough for his sharp ears to miss it), to Aragorn: “How long?” “Since Lothlórien,” Aragorn said, equally quiet. “Not long, then,” said Gandalf. “Long enough,” said Aragorn. He sounded weary; this made sense, as nothing else in their conversation did. He had been riding long and was tired.
So last year I binge-read @windandwater Lord of the Rings fanfiction “Where you go, I will go” several times and reaaaaally enjoyed it! I got trapped by the great storytelling, Gimli/Legolas, and the found family trope (my biggest weakness!), and if that’s your jam I recommend you go have a look at it, it’s awesome.
I was very much influenced by a picture called “Couch cuddle” from @adorkastock ( Adorkastock ) I stumbled over once and haven't been able to get out of my head since.
I'd been thinking of doing an entirely separate post for the colored version of the lineart for a while, and seeing a bunch of people in my notes recently remotivated me, so here it is (but still with the lineart, because I like it). Cheers everyone, may spring be gentle.
