Somewhere Between- True to the name

Somewhere Between (2017 TV show limited series) was a recommendation by my dear friend Netflix, based on the shows watched on my profile. I am a big sucker for police procedure dramas and none better than the British ones. After watching all of the 7 seasons of Death in Paradise ( review to be followed), I was running out of options in this genre and set myself up for a 1 episode trial. When I started the first episode, it was a 5 star rating on Netflix. To be honest, once you are able to overcome the facial expressions of the lead actress Paula Patton, the first episode ends at a point where you would want to watch the second episode. By facial expressions, I mean A LOT! Sometimes confusing the heck out of me, considering the situation the character was in at that moment in the plot. It was almost like in plays, where the actors over emote so that the person sitting in the last row can also enjoy. Watching Patton's face muscles move like that in full HD was something else. So much so that the missus, who was passing by happened to see Patton in her expressive best, shrugged her shoulders and just walked away muttering. Without giving much away as spoilers, the concept was good enough- with a Groundhog Day style time repeat and an attempt to 'beat fate'. The difference compared to plots of this kind is that two strangers who are connected to each other experience this repeat in time. This could have been a good movie of 2 hours with the right cast, but not a 10 episode series. There isn't enough material to keep us engaged. By the time I had gotten to episode number 4, the rating had dropped to 3.5. (Yeah, tell me about it my dear friend Netflix!) I still had the resolve to finish it and that always makes you give some grace marks. Review Pints: 🍺🍺🍺 and maybe a half ( Reference: 7 🍺close to a knock out) Watch it for: Plot based on time lapse/repeat. Don't bother: If you cannot get past the melodrama and some impractical situations.
