i have been working on a story for my oc, serena the butterfly.

i tried to make this like an idw sonic cover.

the red and pink characters in the middle are two more ocs i made for this story. i shall introduce them soon.

Do you think the open world sonic rumours are true?

I personally don't even really consider them rumors at this point. It's terribly easy to make up fake information and post it on 4chan. But the 4chan posts for Sonic Rangers... not only did multiple different people describe a reasonably similar game, they described the game months apart from each other, and they both called it by the same name that matches Sega's own internal file name for the teaser they posted a few months ago: Sonic Rangers. And the 4chan posters referred to it as Sonic Rangers before Sega did.

Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that the people on 4chan were describing a real game. I believe them, to an extent. They talked about an open world Sonic game with elements of Breath of the Wild, but instead of Shrines, you got dropped in to side scrolling 2D levels. The goal was to power up and fight a giant monster that you climbed up as it moved. Sonic has a new move, called "Spin Cycle," which was identified in the teaser, where you spindash in a circle and whatever's inside the circle gets either destroyed or collected.

Takashi Iizuka is also on record saying Sega teased Sonic Rangers too early and that they're developing the game "step-by-step," meaning they're trying not to rush things. This kind of lines up with the idea that these 4chan users were part of playtests a year or even two years ago.

But with the game being so far out from release, who knows. It could change before it's done. That's the thing with games that are this early. I still stand by the TSSZ story we had with a game called "Sonic Dimensions," because the source sounded totally rock solid -- but we reported on the game so early it was canceled before it got announced.

Sega hasn't actually "announced" Sonic Rangers yet. They announced they're working on a Sonic game, but they have not actually spelled out any kind of features, levels, characters, or narrative. They haven't even confirmed, out loud, in public, what the name is. All we saw was Sonic running around a forest and doing something that could be the Spin Cycle. There's a lot, lot, lot of wiggle room for them to upend the whole game and start over with a different idea.

So while the rumors as they were reported were probably correct, they were only correct at the specific point in time they were written. The way a game played six months ago could be completely different from how it plays today.
