I'm new to Codywan. Doyou have a list of Must Reads or Fandom Classics or anything like that? (Bonus points for longfic!)
Funnily enough, I'm not sure I'm an expert on Fandom Classics, but I do think that the long Clone Wars rewrites/fix-its are a perfect way to start! (And then you can move on to shorter fics and crazy AUs haha) So these are all longer, and can be fit into TCW continuity, even if they diverge at some point because the writers can't help themselves and will fix canon (as they should).
{recs under the cut, please mind the tags listed on ao3}
in our hearts some ancient song by whimsicalimages (@keensers)- Fives discovers the chips, he's on the run and gambles his life on the assumption that there's something going on between Cody and his general, so they would help him. Some amazing lore in this fic. 40k words
Golden Shield of Brightness by NerJetii (@nerjetii)- Soulmate AU, your soulmates' (romantic and platonic) names are written on your wrists. "Only" 15k, but I would recommend it even if you're not a fan of soulmate AUs (=they don't fall into each other's arms just because they're soulmates). Focuses on Obi-Wan, mostly, but we also learn a bit about how the Kaminoans treated the clones.
I am teaching myself how to be free by tattooedgreenhouse (@gershwyndl) - this might be THE Clone Wars rewrite for me because the author has taken upon themselves to literally retell the whole series from Cody's AND Obi-Wan's POV. It's ambitious, I'm pretty sure it's technically canon compliant, but we do get our happy ending. Appropriately, it's 113k long.
i'll orbit your flickering star by sunskippa (@sunskippa) - Also a Clone Wars rewrite (by this I mean that it goes through the events of the series from Cody's POV), also canon compliant, 78k words. Might be my favourite ending in the genre, beautiful. I don't even know how to sell this, but it's a must-read imo
|to failure sweet victor| by littlekaracan (@cillyscribbles)- 20k words. In case you've read all those rewrites and you just want to skip to the part where Cody leaves the Empire and they find each other again on Tatooine *with a twist*
you read my mind, I'll read yours series by sospes - This is very much canon divergent. Starts off as a mission fic, Cody and Obi-Wan discover an artefact that creates a Force-bond between them. Misunderstandings ensue. Look at the tags/ratings, some of the works later on are spicier/angstier. But you could also read the first one and call it a day if those aren't your jam. (The whole thing is 166k long at the moment.)
will you be an anarchist with me? by a_alene (@birdiedoessw) - an outsider POV (Rex's) on Cody's and Obi-Wan's relationship. With the extra twist that they can't stand each other at the beginning of the war. This is something I would've loved to read when I was getting into codywan, it's a great way to start. (25k words)
shoulder the sky series by Night Fury (@shootingstarpilot) - Last but not least, an ongoing series (all but two works are finished, more than 200k words atm). You'll have to "get through" the first work to read the more codywan-focused fics (and I don't mean this in a bad way because the story is a m a z i n g. Just so you know.) To be honest, I think it might be a bit confusing to read at the moment because as far as I can see a work was removed from the series, but it's still up? I'm not sure what happened there, but I suppose you could simply read all the author's works in chronological order :D This series is pretty much Obi-Wan AND clone troopers focused and relies a lot on the Jedi Apprentice series (which isn't canon anymore) but you're gonna be fine if you haven't read it.
(If anyone reads this, please feel free to add your own suggestions!)
Fanfic Rec #59 Geralt z Rivii | Geralt of Rivia/Jaskier | Dandelion (The Witcher)
a broken pot can still hold water by MarionetteFtHJM
Despite what his outward code of conduct would have you thinking, Jaskier knows when he is not wanted.
He allows himself the exact amount of three days of wallowing in that small town before he packs his meager possessions and hits the road like nothing happened. In those three days he sings and dances for his food and drink, fucks the pretty barmaid and sleeps off the hangover before heading out in the morning of the fourth day. He travels alone for the first time in a while but it’s alright.
Now, if only people would stop telling him that the Witcher asks about him - that'd be swell.
strings of fate binding us together by winterbitch (WinterLadyy)
After Geralt blames Jaskier for everything, the bard leaves. He will not cry, he will not break down. He's much more than Geralt's useless companion and he will not let the Witcher ruin him. It's a stroke of luck that he meets another Witcher in Oxenfurt, and finally finds out what's it like to be openly called a friend.
Then, they decide to spend winter in Kaer Morhen, and Coën isn't the only Witcher who goes there.
It may be Geralt's only chance to apologize to his bard, his friend, his everything. 13 years is a long time to ponder one's mistakes and now, Geralt is desperate to fix what he broke.
Redwood and Dandelion by sharkhette
"The Witcher's bought a room for the night, and says he'll pay double for anyone who can bed him without stinking of fear the whole time."
"Oh, I've fucking got this," Jaskier promised.
____________
Or, the one where Jaskier works in a brothel and falls head over heels for the stoic, not-actually-that-scary Witcher who comes in requesting his services.
Geralt doesn't know what he's getting himself into.
To Sleep Perchance To by sospes
Jaskier gets kidnapped and tortured. Geralt comes to rescue him.
Except it's not quite that simple.

there were some things that he could not scrub away no matter how hard he tried and ---- oh, did daryl dixon every have it in him to always try. before the hilltop his bathing rituals had all been the same: quick, mechanical. autopilot at it’s best as he went through his thoughts of the day and what needed to be worried about for the next. something changed from then to when he’d stepped into the luxurious and clean bathroom of the old museum; eyes wet and new clothing so heavy in his arms.
for one thing, he’d taken so much extra time than usual. in most cases he was in && out --- right back in the dirt a moment later but this time he lets it drag on well past the point where water is cold. filth is scrubbed from skin and then skin is scrubbed again. then again. and again. the scrubbing doesn’t get the song out of his head. it doesn’t get the taste of whatever they were feeding him out of his mouth. it doesn’t uplift the guilt in his chest or what felt like permanent stains on his cheeks from crying over the photograph on the floor. it doesn’t do much, only enough. enough to keep him moving ---- enough to force him to keep functioning.
after racing thoughts slow down he’s able to put things in an order. baby steps. simple tasks. get up, get clothed, get out. gregory’s company was the very last thing that he wanted and he knew that, at some point, he would need to find paul and thank him or whatever. there was a topic that needed to be touched, words that needed to be exchanged but he gets ahead of himself in all the strangeness of yet another unfamiliar place.
he bumps into the other man quickly once he’s outside ---- almost as if paul were waiting for him. maybe. it was likely. a moment passes where he stares and then bows his head, words lost to lyrics he hates and the fact that he’d spent so much time clamping up. when was the last time he’d had a conversation with someone? the argument with glenn? the thought makes him visibly wince and he decides against the interaction entirely. too soon. he’d jumped into this way too soon. it hurt. things still hurt and he almost considered going back and scrubbing himself again but paul is near him and despite turning away to leave he feels stuck. how pathetic for it to only take a few weeks for such a skilled tracker to lose his way.
{starter for @sospes}
“You LOST?” Eyebrows raise as he looks the stranger up and down. There were a lot of people in the Sanctuary and he’s hardly been there LONG enough to know every face, but he knows an intruder when he sees one.
there wasn’t a single doubt in sherry’s mind at this very moment --- that if this man wanted, he could end her life within a matter of seconds. it was too late to take a step back into the shadows, turn the corner as if she’d been unseen. their eyes had met, but what he didn’t know was that she wasn’t a threat. ( not without a reason to be. ) this sundress she’d been wearing & the heels didn’t change that. ❛ are you here to kill him --- negan? ❜ sherry wouldn’t put an end to his plan if that was the end goal, but she would have him think twice. because once caught, she was certain he would NOT be leaving this place alive. ❛ this isn’t the way to do it, storming in here. you’ll be caught before you even get a glance at him. ❜
❛ it gets under your skin after a while. ❜ she says it, plain-voiced, striking the blade of her knife down a roughshod strap to sharpen it. it slices a familiar rhythm. shuck-shuck. the leather strains off the edge of an old picnic bench, bleached & shriveling. she picks the dagger up, lets the silver gleam in the sunlight that has painted bronze across her brow, seasoned her skin.
there’s a metallic flavor lingering on her tongue, too. acrid saliva it’s the dehydration, the bitter sting of sweat slips between her molars. she looks up at him, squinting against the midday scorch. ❛ don’t you think? ❜
❝ i did say i didn’t want any more visitors. ❞ she hasn’t got up from the sofa, returning to it as soon as she opened the door to him and begrudgingly let him inside. she knows they’re concerned, but she really doesn’t need the help. ❝ i don’t need anymore damn fruit. ❞
