one of our alters is technically from the dsmp but he's so far separated from his source he barely looks like the guy and doesn't use the same name anymore - hasn't in almost two years

and yet. we were still told to leave the server. because he existing at all was 'scaring people'. mind you none of them even met him, we just casually introduced him in the intro post.

(we barely mentioned his source, but we mentioned it the same way you'd introduce someone, ie 'this is max, he's from new york')

Dude what? That's fucking wild, I swear people only preach that alters aren't source when it suits them. Hypocrites.

most of us are very source separated but sonic is not. he sees the image of himself being sexualized and glorified all the time and it makes him absolutely sick - because how would you feel if a character that was modelled almost identically to you was some sort of nsfw it's-okay-because-i-imagined-them-as-an-adult icon???

anyways so he vents about it and gets a proshipper in his comments telling him to "block the tags" and that he "doesn't have to get angry at people"... for drawing what is essentially p//rn of him and his boyfriend.

Anyways!

Recently one of our headmates started dating someone that happened to be a sourcemate. Which, we see as fine cause they weren’t attracted to each other BECAUSE of it, they hung out and things developed.

It reminded us of a few places on syscord where people were like “if you don’t date someone from your source you’re awful!!” or “never date from source they aren’t who you remember!!” it was never in between.

Which we can see some aspects of both sides, but also. Most people know that?? They don’t HAVE to date someone from source, they don’t HAVE to date anyone else. It only becomes an issue if they date simply because they’re sourcemates and have high expectations from each other because of it, imo.

V if you ever see this, congrats + you’re gay/lh/silly (in sys bullying)

The attitude around source is so strange. Imagine if we treated people's bodily pasts like that.

We were in a server where if a user had a certain discomfort towards a media (ex: DSMP, Genshin Impact, MCYT to name a few), the staff would inform any alters whose source was one of those media that they were not allowed to talk in the server. Like at all. Not even in bot channels. I’m happy the server got nuked.

Introjects 👏 aren't 👏 source 👏

I'm so tired of syscords being like "we accept all!" and then being assholes to introjects 😭 I'm glad that server got nuked too anon

So, we have an introject from a webcomic, and we were in the Discord server for the webcomic. The headmate, Fern fronted and wanted to talk in the Discord server. The author of the webcomic said that introjects, especially ones from the webcomic, were not allowed to speak in the server despite it being "system friendly." This pissed us and a few of our friends off to be honest. I understand that the author was uncomfortable but if it's a system safe space then introjects of all sources should be allowed to speak. The worst part? Some of the other members in the server were like "Where did Fern go? Where is he?" We left the server after that because Fern is extremely sensitive, especially to source and system related topics. They deleted all the conversations Fern and the other members had. Fern isn't even very attached to the universe their source, just the character, and even then their personalities are very different. I've attached some screenshots of the conversation Fern and one of the mods had.

I understand where the author was coming from but they weren't forced to interact with Fern. I also understand that this is their server and they make the rules, but it did still rub us the wrong way.

That's really odd, I don't like that at all. Alters aren't source and that person needs to realize it. There was no need for you to apologise in that situation, and you're not in the wrong at all

Jeez sometimes I wish the normalization wasn’t 100% total source separation = everyone and anyone’s goal, ever, sometimes, especially since it seems so unfair who gets targeted with it. I’ve been in servers where I specifically was told to go by another name, not talk about source stuff, etc, because of my own identity. I get people being uncomfortable around me at times but when even ex friends were being all “who invited J” “Who let J fill out that quiz?” “Haha, why is she here?”

A lot of people also got VERY weird when I wanted to talk about my boyfriend by name, because of source implications again! I don’t know how they always spew the same “introject aren’t their source” (which is super complicated for us since,, I am but I’m also very much not? Dunno.) and yet when I’m dating another introject from the same source and I talk about how much I love the man, suddenly I’m basically a proshipper because I’m evil and he’s “canon gay” (he’s bi.)

I wish people would just! Decide what they believe? Certain introjects are treated super unfairly and people really seem to forget they’ve been preaching that introjects aren’t their source when it comes to an introject commonly thought to be exclusively mlm dating a woman or similar,

My take on source separation: it isn't a moral issue and it's dumb as hell that people are trying to make it that, but I think it would be in the best interest of the introject and the system at large to source separate if the source is causing a lot of personal distress. I've seen a lot of Wilbur fictives going down devastating guilt spirals simply because their formation and existence is connected at its core to the actual Wilbur Soot, and that honestly doesn't seem like a great place to keep your mind in.

Again, it's absolutely not a moral issue. Health choices are never moral issues unless they're harming others (ex: a person continuing to smoke indoors despite living with an asthmatic roommate). However, from a self-care standpoint and as someone who has dealt with major issues regarding misplaced guilt, it's just as unproductive to treat it as a dirty word as it is to treat it as necessary. Analyze your personal situation carefully and decide if it's right for you.
