I'M ON A SOURCE GAME KICK, LETS GO REVIVE A BUNCH OF DEAD GAMES!!!
I think what I like about source mods is that, because they have more limited resources, they are forced to be more creative instead of just trying to create the same thing with better graphics. This leads to things like The Stanley Parable, Dear Esther, Nightmare House 2, Minerva, and Underhell. Some of them take basic game concepts and make them more unique (NH2, Minerva) and some create things that are entirely new (The Stanley Parable, Dear Esther). I do love ow some of them really get how to create immersion and depth of character in the video game medium the way a lot of big game companies don't seem to get. It's just really refreshing and really fun.
