A huge hypocrite, inquisitor wannabe and a bastard few steps away from turning to Technocracy in search of certainty, even if said certainty comes from oppression and destruction of everything that doesn't fit. He has fun narrative parallels with Rezul, who had the opposite character arc and went from NWO to Cult of Ecstasy.
Today I bring you a self-indulgent "Mage: the Ascension" shitpost 😌
Rezul is a former NWO agent who has changed sides and is now with the Cult of Ecstasy. He tries to hide his past from his new allies. Keyword is "tries", because he was born in a family of two technocrats, he had been brainwashed from birth, and he does a very poor job at pretending to be a normal person. Even by mages' standards. Even out of life-threatening situations like the one I've depicted on the picture, he's weird. Like, "clearly was a part of totalitarian organisation once" weird.
Most of other ecstatics he's familiar with have figured him out by now, but they don't say anything, because it's funnier when he slips, realises it, checks for reaction, doesn't get any and is immensely relieved (all technocrat-style, without really emoting with his face). Like dude, you're not fooling anyone, sorry. But if this is so important to you, we'll play along.
I love Celestial chorus. Here are my choristers with very different vibes and ways of living by their religion. That's it. Moving on.
I got tired of colouring 😔
Bullying technocrats yay. Personal headcanon of mine: if NWO bases it's dark humour on 1984, then ItX should do so on "I have no mouth and I must scream", and Void Engineers should do so on Warhammer 40k. At least my VE, Supernova, does answer his colleagues' complaints about their lives with "well, at least we're not in Wh40k" from time to time.
(And yeah, they are in Commorragh and there's a drukhari with glasses in the background. Don't worry, they'll get out of there very soon once Supernova makes some semblance of peace with the fact that Wh40k is real somewhere. Noone is really getting hurt. Except for Rob's (technocrat in the background) dignity, I guess.)
When Melanie (my Cult of Ecstasy OC) realised her attraction to Irwin (my ex-NWO agent turned Cult of Ecstasy OC) her first thoughts were loud and desperate pleas for mercy from the universe.
(The universe aka me didn't listen lmao)
Fan fact just in case: "be seeing you" is traditional technocratic way of saying goodbye; Irwin here said it without even realising, he's just so used to it since he was born into Technocracy... Melanie with her personal resentment towards Technocratic Union can only grit her teeth and hate herself more for falling for agent of the Union, even if said agent is no more affiliated with it :')
Poor Melanie. She's going through the Horrors™ with ethics of her love, all while Irwin is idly wondering if the fact that he enjoys Melanie's company more than anyone's company even means anything... The bastard is falling in love too, but his ability to comprehend his own emotions is lacking, to put it mildly.
Messy sketch of a Mage, a Wraith and someone in-between
Lore under the cut, ❗cw for Cotard's syndrome (mental disorder when one believes they are already dead)❗
Let's start with lady in the middle of the picture. Her name is Arietta, she's a Mage from Euthanatos and she firmly believes that the world and people around her are a part of some fictional narrative, who therefore have roles to play and plot twists to happen. (And technically she's right, being a character in TTRPG...)
Unfortunately, she believes that her own character, or, speaking plainly, she herself, has already died earlier in the plot. Which, mixed with mages' ability to warp reality, isn't good for her at all. Arietta, despite being very much alive, has many traits of Wraith and is slowly fading from reality. For now she holds onto reality through what she calls "haunting the narrative" and finding purpose in trying to "make some character's arcs resolve properly" (hence her affiliation with Euthanatos), but who knows when her paradigm will take over her completely...
This really worries, to put it mildly, Arietta's brother, Xavier, a guy in the lower left corner. Her sister turning more and more ghost-like led to Xavier desperate desire to understand death, Wraiths and their world, which led to his Awakening. He joined Society of Ether, conducting countless experiments and building endless tools in attempt to figure out reality to prove to his sister that no narrative by which she is dead or is supposed to be exists.
And these siblings are sometimes haunted by a friendly Wraith, Claude. He is actually their grand-grand-uncle and a Wraith from Legion of Paupers. He has his own plot going on, so he doesn't get involved that much, but he does like his descendants and helps when he can without Hierarchy noticing.
I'm too tired to adapt this wordplay in English. It's something roughly like "To quote the Great Inquisition, we are fire", using "fire" as a slang term for being cool. It's stupid, historically inaccurate and referencing a pretty tragic part of human history, yeah. But it suits these two well. I'll talk about them under the cut.
If you're new here, then firstly meet Rezul, blonde man. He's a former MiB who has switched sides and is now with Cult of Ecstasy. And he is desperately trying to cover up his past.
Enter Lemuel, red-haired man. He's a Chorister (he was on second sketch here, actually). He does have a stereotypical pop-culture "inquisitor" theme to him, so yeah, he's a cold-blooded bastard. Lemuel also pretends to like his colleagues from other traditions, but privately despises everyone whose beliefs or lifestyle are "wrong" from his perspective. Which makes up pretty much all Mages in his vicinity.
As you can guess, he's not a fan of Cult of Ecstasy and their "sex, drugs and rock-and-roll" schtick (even through they are much more than that, but it's not like Lemuel has ever studied their ways). He's not a fan of Technocracy either (since while not being specifically anti-religious, Technocracy is pretty atheistic by itself).
So when a new Ecstatic with weird tech-savviness and mirrorshades appears in city seemingly out of nowhere, Lemuel is instantly suspicious. He figures out Rezul's backstory pretty fast, but he doesn't have any substantial proof to make Rezul a threat in eyes of other mages to justify acting against Rezul. So for now these two are locked in a perpetual mind-game, where Lemuel is seeking of a way to get rid of Rezul without staining his hands, his soul and, most importantly, his reputation; and Rezul, knowing full-well that Lemuel has figured him out, tries not to give him any real information to confirm his suspicions.
The boys are having fun, yeah (they both hate this, the only person having fun here is me >:))
