Silly and dumb are not the same thing.
I'm sick of creators and characters being called stupid for being silly. Mable Pines is not an idiot. She's smart, and honest, and loving. Mable is passionate about sweaters and pigs and glitter, she may frequently be comic relief, but she's a loyal sister. She's a valued member of the Pines family. Irrational Treasure is all about her struggle with this. My favorite Mabel Pines quote is "I think I'm being charming, but I guess people just see me as a big joke."
Luna Lovegood is a weirdo. That's how she's introduced. Throughout her appearances in the novels, Harry realizes that she is more than Spetraspces and weird magazines, she is so terribly wise. She laughs too loud and walks in the forest with creatures no one can see. But she's a Ravenclaw, she's not an idiot. She's perfectly sane. (I believe that she is a good representation though of people who are ridiculed for being passionate. F u, Joanne, but Luna's whole deal is wonderful.)
Trevor Evarts from Mythical Kitchen is also frequently called stupid, which really pisses me off. In a tweet that he recently took down, he posted a frowny face and said that people on the internet were being terrible to him. Y'all, this is a real person, he has a degree in baking and an amazing job. He rocks a skirt, is funny as hell, and is crazy competent! But he's ridiculed for being a giddy person.
This happens to me too. This happens to so many people who are shot down for actually giving a fuck about things. Y'all. This freaking sucks. It's harmful. We gotta start being nicer to people and taking them seriously, if they giggle at their own jokes and mess up sometimes, that doesn't mean they're stupid.
