All it took for him to notice you was one interaction.
Bumping into each other on the street right outside your favorite coffee place, Jitters. You managed not to spill your drink on him or yourself with your superspeed, doing it so subtly that the other man didn’t notice anything.
When you looked up from your drink, your eyes immediately went to his face. He was really pretty, weirdly pretty; a scar on his cheek and another on his forehead, aging wrinkles that didn’t make him any more unattractive, but what took your breath away was his hazel-colored eyes.
They made him look like a doe. Not a deer, that would be too mature, that’s not appropriate.
He was dressed in dark clothing, you appreciated it, he wasn’t trying too hard, he was just living in a navy blue jacket and black shirt and cargo pants.
While you were appreciating him, he was doing the same to you. He was taken by your everything. The way you dressed - in plaid and converse, comfortably - the way you looked, brown eyes and hair sitting messily on your head like you run a hand through your hair a lot. He especially loved all of the moles littering across your face and down your neck from what he could see.
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t watch - watching where I was going,” You apologized, stumbling over your words slightly, a hand clutching your coffee and the other clutching the strap of your messenger bag.
It was easier for him to think you were a clutz, then to think you’re just moving too fast for anyone else.
You gave him an awkward smile, he thought it was charming. He liked the way your teeth looked, almost perfect. He liked the way you spoke, carefully but rushed, the deep cadence of your voice making the words you speak even more energetic.
“It’s okay, just be careful next time,” He advised, giving a thin smile. He tried to keep conversation flowing, but his mind went blank. You seemed to notice it, you were always too good at reading people with a quick glance.
Before he could even think about saying anything, you were already talking.
“Can I buy you a drink to make up for it?” You offered, knowing the other man would say yes anyway.
You knew everything about him anyway, Benjamin Poindexter, the vigilante named Bullseye. It was hard to miss the guy whose face was plastered through all of the newspapers and online journals, especially in your line of work.
Dex nodded, a bigger smile on his face but not too much, “I’d like that, I’m Dex,” he moved to open the door to Jitters where you both were standing in front of idly, thankfully without getting any nasty stares.
He motioned for you to enter first, which you did, “Thank you, I’m Y/N.” You saw him mouth your name like he was trying it out and you smiled inwardly.
He was very cute for a psychopath.
You move to wait in the line that formed right after you left the first time, thanks to your speed you didn’t have to wait in line, but now you were here with Dex and it was worth the wait. Dex and you stood next to each other, shoulders touching when you moved just the slightest to sip on your coffee and you could feel the small shudders run through his body like he wasn’t used to the contact.
You hid a smirk behind your coffee.
You decide to make conversation, “So, Dex, what do you do?” You know what he does, of course, but you felt awkward just standing there.
Dex looked caught off guard like he wasn’t expecting the question, but he recovered faster than most would, but speedy recoveries were your thing so you caught it immediately, “Oh, I’m a freelancer, of sorts.” His shoulders were tense like he was expecting to get called out.
You weren’t that mean.
You tried not to snicker, that’s the best he could come up with? “Sounds secretive,” you joked, “I won’t pry, but any chance I can get your number, Agent Dex?” You tried not to show your nerves as you asked the bold question.
He looked surprised, you weren’t a variable he was expecting. You were awkward in a charming way, but you were also too knowing for your own good, you were also confident, but just the right amount.
“Yes,” he responded, waiting for you to get your phone out before rattling his phone number off by memory.
You put it in quickly, faster than he said it out loud, and he paused, noticing the weird quirk. Did you know him, he thought to himself. No, it wouldn’t make sense, he’s never met you before, he would definitely remember.
“Great, I’ll text you sometime.” You smiled at him, putting your phone back in your pocket. It was finally you guys’ turn to order so you let Dex take the lead, you already had your coffee anyways.
“I’ll have a medium black coffee, please.” He gave his order to the barista, who nodded and said the price in return. Before he could take his wallet out, you had already moved, tapping your card onto the reader, paying for it before he could even process it.
Dex looked at you, startled. You were definitely something he did not expect, he wasn't sure if it was a good thing yet.
You smiled, taking a sip of your coffee, “I said I was buying,” you shrugged like it was no big deal, but it was to him.
This man he just happened to bump into - a very attractive one nonetheless - bought him coffee, got his number and was interested in him.
You were perfect.
He had to know everything about you as soon as possible.
Dex picked up his coffee after it was finished being made and you two moved to rest at one of the standing tables. You leaned your elbows against the table, coffee being held in between your hands.
“Do you come here often?” Dex asked you, trying to know more about you without being too off-putting.
He needed to figure out your schedule, needed to know what routes you take, where you work, where you spend your free time, everything.
It sounded like the start of a bad pickup line, but you knew him better than that, “Yeah, actually, most mornings I come if I have time, other mornings I can’t make it,” Your answers were vague but you wanted to come off as mysterious to him, sue you.
“What do you do for work?” He asked, curiously. If he had to guess, by the looks of you, he would guess you worked at a bookstore or maybe a restaurant, you didn’t look like the manual labor type - don’t get him wrong, you were lean and fit and very attractive but you didn’t look like the lifter type.
“I’m a CSI, I work for NYPD,” You answered, truthfully, giving a bashful smile, that was not what he was expecting.
There was no way you didn't know who he was. Dex immediately thought.
You looked down at the brown leather watch on your left wrist, and straightened up immediately, “which is where I need to be in the next ten minutes. I’m sorry, I didn’t realize how late it was getting, this has been great, even if it got cut short, which was totally my fault.” You rambled just a tad bit, which you tend to do when you want to say more, but can't get it all out.
He noticed that about you, lips quirking up into a smile.
You pushed away from the table and Dex followed your movements as you stopped to stand in front of him. “I’ll text you, yeah?” You assured him and he responded with a nod so you took the initiative to start walking out of Jitters, but before you completely left, you turned, “It was nice meeting you, Agent Poindexter.”
You smiled and left, he couldn't get the interaction out of his mind. You were perfect. You could be his North Star if he pulled the strings right.
He then paused, Agent Poindexter, that's what you called him. You definitely knew who he was.
He waited around five minutes after you left, before exiting Jitters and trying to follow where you went. He walked around, looking for a 5’ 11” brown haired man in a rush, but there was nothing - other than all the 5' 11” brown haired men not in a rush.
It was like you disappeared without a trace. That was interesting. But you did tell him you worked for the NYPD so it shouldn’t be too hard to find you.
