I recently got new coworkers who it would be fun to have over for like tea or something. Unfortunately, one of them is... probably* really allergic to lanolin.

Lanolin is found in unwashed sheeps wool.

I have. So much wool in my house I measure it by the entire fleece

In short: I live in a saw trap for one specific person

(*He had a TERRIBLE allergic reaction and the only thing different that day was lanolin in a product. Now he has to carry epipens EVERYWHERE)

Friends, I have a Very Serious Problem: I’m in love with qiviut. Specifically, I’m spinning the 33g of qiviut I bought at Woolstock last month, and loving it more than anything I’ve spun before. It’s so soft, and spins up with all the buttery smoothness of alpaca, but so, so fine. I intended to spin sport weight, but have accidentally spun thread, and it’s strong enough that I’m disinclined to ply it and waste its delicate bounty. We’ll see how much I end up with, but I’m thinking I might want to knit a wedding ring shawl rather than the cowl I’d originally planned.

Why is this a problem? Qiviut is $1.50/g and I can see myself dropping several hundred on it next year. At least my little Electric Eel is proving itself a worthwhile investment, since it’s perfect for the job. Also, even as the globe warms, Ontario is likely to suffer worsening winters, so I’ll need the warmth.

I’ve updated my standards on how I might propose to my hypothetical future wife: fine qiviut shawl. Now accepting girlfriend applications.

I desperately want to start spinning the 30g of qiviut (more expensive than fine silver, says Actual Alchemist Friend), but I need to finish a dozen more cards or so for the German market and it can’t jump the queue. This does not change the fact that I WANT.

So I went down to my storage locker to put away a couple of fibres I won’t get to spinning any time soon, and bring up the 50gbag of silk that needs to be spun in the near future. This meant pulling out the bag of silk and the bag of not-silk/not-wool, and then going through them to find what I was looking for.

Long story short, I brought up the silk, the rest of the yak I’m doing on the Turkish spindle, the other bag of tri-colour alpaca I spun last year, the second bag of pink/green camel/silk I started in the spring (all of these so that I know how much there is and can keep them together), some more angora since the last batch was so successful, the cashmere I bought a few years ago that I have to see if I can spin on the wheel, and some Gryffindor-coloured silks that I want to play with after. While I was at it, I petted the disgustingly expensive single ounce of qiviut (is it wrong to hope I don’t love it) and discovered I have some 800g of tussah silk to spin.

There is a chance that I am secretly a dragon, and this is my hoard. ‘Tis the season for spinning?

I have been spinning this roving for two weeks no problem, why is it snapping every ten minutes all of a sudden. Personally I blame the moth. (...we won't dwell on to what degree I may or may not be serious for now.)

My Wheel is Fixed!

My husband fixed my wheel!  We went and got an oak dowel and he very carefully pushed the old one out and cut the new one and replaced it and it works!Also, and I hadn't noticed until yesterday, but the extra length of drive band I'd ordered and paid for didn't come with the wheel. Yet another reason to never deal with The Woolery again. Getting my refund for that when I call them tomorrow, and then they can shove it where the sun shineth not.

The thing about ouat that bothers me the most Is that rumple never once uses the spinning wheel correctly And hey, maybe arbitrarily running the thread over the shuttle and bobbin is the magic trick But he sure as hell isn't spinning
