“No, it’s not Base64. That would be too easy.” Josh squinted at his computer monitor, staring at the string of incomprehensible numbers and letters. There was a pattern here. Somewhere. “Give me a second.”

Wrench folded his arms over his chest, clicking his tongue. “Hmmm… yep. That’s pretty encrypted alright. You tried putting it into Hexadecimal?”

Josh paused, giving him a look. “Of course.”

“Alright! Just checking. Guy must have some brain on him, at least.”

Marcus had great timing, as he descended down HQ’s stairs. Sensing commotion, he strayed over towards Wrench and Josh. “Hey. Find something interesting?”

“Was out smoking and when I got back, I found a flashdrive with some cryptid message on it hanging by the door. Had I’m waiting written all ominously on it and everything.” Wrench winked at Marcus— odd. Marcus squinted at him. “Josh booted up a virtual machine and found an encrypted text file. We’ve been trying to figure it o—”

“I’ve got it.” Josh said, fingers flying over his keyboard. In just a few seconds the incomprehensible mess became something more readable, a link of sorts…

“A video?” Marcus questioned, learning in. Josh clicked on the hyperlink. As if the browser and HQ’s internet connection was sentient, it lagged and stalled before the page loaded up, drawing out the suspense.

Then that song. Loud obnoxious drum beat and synths and a dude with a baby face in a suit dancing in front of a microphone.

Wrench howled with laughter, patting Josh on the back. “Ahahaha, I got you! Oh my god, the look on your face!”

Josh just started, unimpressed and unamused. Closing out of the browser, he shook his head. “Your encryption skills are terrible, by the way.”

The REAL Story ||Apex Verse For Real||

Okay so this will be under the cut. But seeing as my shitpost idea was welcomed so eagerly, I gotta make a real verse timeline. So bear with me, I will post when I make updates.

Octane laughed as the Mastiff went off in his hands and the blaring music threw him into the two figures, throwing all three wild demons to the ground. He laughed in tune with the Australian and techno vibe of his friends.

“I can’t believe I shot the Mastiff!” Octane giggled, still riding the aftershocks of another Stim and a near death run into battle.

“I can’t believe I got a fucking kill with this prototype tech! The field testing, ugh, it’s so fucking gorgeous.” The techno tones sounded far too pleased and Octane kicked the other’s leg lightly with a scoff of playful disgust.

“And my bombs are going so well! AND MY TYRE IS DOING GREAT!” the Aussie voice shouted the end and giggled wildly before flopping back to enjoy the relaxing pause of their win whilst waiting for the dropship to gather them up.

It feels like another life when Octane didn’t have his two best friends by his side. He can still remember the day they had come into his life.

Jamie was first.

Octavio was a wild child, had been taken in by a Gang of Spanish misfits from the age of five. He loved it. But what he loved the most, was their welcoming hearts as they accepted the love of a transgander woman to one of his tios, making him feel hope that they may accept everything.

His ‘birth’ parents, Mr and Mrs Silva had bought a building in good condition to house most of the gang. It was there, that Octavio met the first of his blood brothers.

Here, he had heard of these new editions and had worked hard to make cookies and muffins, most looking lopsided, but cooked through and decent enough. He rushed over, always a man of speed, long ahead of his padre.

He had knocked furiously on the door until it opened, and he was met with the chest of a small male. Tilting his head up his wide twin coloured eyes looked to a much taller (more accurately a normal sized) six year old.

“Why ya knockin’ so much?” thew words were laid thick with a heavy accent that had the usually chatty Octavio rendered speechless, and almost timid. He shifted, making a small noise and the six year old jolted, hunching down. “H-hey no I’m not.... MUUUUUM!” the kid shouted in panic as Octavio’s padre finally caught up, frowning at the scene in confusion.

The woman came over, took one look at Octavio and turned her glare to her son.

“Jamison Fawkes what have ya done?” her words were sharp, making the new kid flinch down, looking confused.

“I-I-I.... C-cookies?” the natural Spanish was taking over as Octavio struggled with finding the English words as he thrust out the offerings, making the six year old brighten up.

“I think your son has been adopted as an older brother.” Octavio remembers his padre murmur those words as he and the child exchanged the gift and Jamison led the child into his little suite with his parents, his mother just laughing gently at the sight.

It took Octavio maybe an hour to be back to his boisterous self, finding that the six year old wasn’t that scary after all. They were swiftly seen as brothers and his padre moved his suite next to theirs, allowing the two boys to stay together.

Wrench was an absolute mistake.

Octavio was nine, and he just remembered getting texts from a random number.

[Unknown] Hi there buddy. ^^

[Octane] ..... quien diablos eres tú

[Unknown] Uh, no English?

[Octane] Who the fuck are you?

[Unknown] Wrench, and you?

Name has been saved

[Octane] Call me Octane?

[Wrench] Why the ? man? I’m just a hacker that was told to break into your database because I was bored.

[Octane] ..... Amigo, you don’t just say that outright.

A few days of them just chatting turned into a huge scaled panic after he discovered this guy was talking to Jamison too, and they then told the grown ups.

They explained that the guy could help them get better protection, and after a lot of begging, they were able to join the squad going out to see the man.

Seven burly men walked into the garage, but the lights turned on, startling them all. A slow clap before eyes were drawn up to see the figure in question. He was no older than his teens, for sure, and his face was hidden behind a mask with little emoji’s on the goggles, currently displaying two big ‘X’s where eyes would be.

“How did you....” their leader trailed off and the kid threw up a dozen holo screens showing their approach.

“I am in all of your tech man. I can track you easily.” he said, that voice echoed with a tech tone that had the two kids peering around in curiosity.

“I... Where are your parents?” the leader asked and the kid stiffened, and Octavio knew when to jump in.

“WAIT IS IT YOU, AMIGO?! WRENCH?!” he bounded out much to his padre’s frantic attempts to stop him. The teen jumped down and chuckled.

“Yes it is. Octane, right?” he asked and held his arms out.

Octavio saw his chance, and launched into the hug, laughing with glee.

“Can he stay please?” he turned as Jamison launched into a long conversation with Wrench about technology.

“We can’t just-”

“But his parents are abusive fucks and he’s all alone! Please!” he begged, eyes watering up and the leader cracked.

“It’s up to hi-”

“So who am I living with?” the teen asked and Octavio cheered as he launched into another hug, this time knocking Wrench to the ground.

They learned he was a thirteen year old boy who had been through hell, but still had a humour to him. He was put in the same house as Octavio and his Padre, with Jamison practically living there with how often he slept over.

The moment Padre knew they were bonded, was peeking into their room to see the three of them piled together, Octavio curled up like a cat in the middle with his best friends tucked close in a cuddle pile.

It was natural that the three would follow each other through everything. Jamison was fifteen when he blew his leg off. His two best friends working with him to make a new one.

When Octavio blew both his legs off, they reached out to everyone and found Ajay, begging her - to which she was friends with them both - to make new legs, even offering to pay her well for them.

When Octavio finally came out of his coma weeks later, they were finally able to see him two weeks after that and cheered that they had a gift. A long surgery and longer recovery later, and Octavio was alive and running again.

So, of course, when they found everything else so boring, it was only natural the trio entered the Apex Games as a full Squad. Their name?

Hell’s Bloody Ángeles.

So, Wrench, Jamison - having been known to the public as Junkrat for years - and Octane, stepped into the spotlight anew, made headlines and did solo games from time to time, but never within the same game unless they choose to.

The powers that be tried to force them to once. It ended with the three as the only living souls, three separate teams, and a modified contract thanks to a techno trickster. It was, and will forever be known as, the only time Apex ended in a tie, as all three of them tucked close in the final ring and waited the patience of their employers.

Now it’s just a wild show whenever they end up on the field.
