WIP Wednesday

Until two weeks ago, I wouldn't have had anything to share because the big WIP I've been working on this year is part of the DCBB 2025 and I can't reveal anything yet (but I can't wait to finally share it).
Although, I recently was inspired by a little something: a spn one-shot, canon divergent from s9, that I hope will be ready by the end of the month. Here are the first sentences so far:
It had been a month since Castiel had settled in the bunker, and another one since he had become human.
Two months already, and Dean didn’t know how he’d cope with enduring this any longer. He’d never thought being protective over somebody would make him so tense and tired. He had cared for Sam all his life, but somehow it hadn’t felt the same. Perhaps because they had both been taught how to defend themselves early on, and it had become a habit. And even though Dean knew that Castiel was a thousands of years old angel and a--once--skilled warrior, none of this mattered now that he had become human.
Castiel had just received a lethal injury when Dean found him, and he wouldn’t be breathing anymore if not for Gadreel’s healing intervention.
The sight of Castiel’s limp posture, an angel blade planted in his stomach, still haunted Dean on a day-to-day basis. He remembered how desperate he had felt to see his angel–his best friend–unmoving, unbreathing.
Dead.
It had shattered something within him that even Castiel’s quick revival couldn’t mend. A constant fear had taken hold of him, in the form of the simplest question: what if.
What if Gadreel hadn’t been there.
What if Gadreel wasn’t there next time Castiel got hurt.
What if Castiel received another fatal wound.
What if it was permanent that time.
What if Dean failed at watching over an angel.
What if Dean failed at protecting his best friend.
What if Dean lost Cas.
No. Dean refused the mere possibility of it happening. He wouldn’t let anything dangerous get close to Castiel again. And he would take care of him.
