Graveyard Nights

Stories of SVU Fall Bingo! Yes my lovelies! It is our first submission for bingo. A 655 word little one shot drabble for the Graveyard square of bingo! Thank you again @storiesofsvu​ for putting this together. I needed something to help get me writing again and this is helping. I appreciate the crap out of you.

Characters: Melinda Warner, Reader

Summary:  Established Melinda x Reader relationship. Reader wants to do something special for their two-year anniversary and decides the best place to go is somewhere that has always been Melinda's childhood comfort spot. A graveyard.

“Babe, can you just tell me where we are going already?” Melinda whined as you continued to drag her down the street.

Her eyes were covered by a thick black blindfold that you had tied before you left your shared apartment. You had big plans for your two year anniversary dinner that you had been refusing to tell her about all week. You merely promised her that she would love it and told her to be patient.  Patience however was not Melinda’s strong suit and she had tried twice to pull the blindfold from her eyes. She was going to try it for a third time before you came to a sudden stop.

“We are here!” You exclaimed, pulling Melinda closer to you.

You pulled the blindfold away kissing Mel’s cheek as you did it. Her eyes took a moment to adjust to the light but then she let out a small squeal.

“Y/N you did it! How did you pull this off?” Mel said, rushing to the picnic that you had set up in the middle of a large patch of trees.

“Well I asked the graveyard guy…”

“The sexton?”

You giggled as the words fell out of your girlfriend’s mouth, “I can’t take him seriously when you call him that babe!”

Melinda rolled her eyes but gave you a small peck on the cheek, “Alright baby just tell me the story.”

“Okay soooo I went to the main office and asked,” You said and began to giggle again, “Let me tell you the faces that they gave me when I asked to have a picnic in the middle of a graveyard was hilarious. They were slightly horrified. But then I mentioned who you were and they accepted immediately. They are big fans of yours… should I be slightly concerned about that?”

Your girlfriend giggled, reaching for your hand to have you sit next to her on the blanket, “I speak for the dead, what can I say.”

You smiled, kissing the top of her hand, “And you do it damn well.”

“You don’t think this is weird do you?” Mel asked a hint of anxiety coming to her typically calm voice.

You looked past the patch of trees you were sitting in out at the graves that were spread all over the grass. Some were decorated in intricate flower bouquets, others had a singular rose, a few had picture frames depicting the loved one buried underneath the ground. You knew that it should make you feel weird. To be eating so close to people who had passed but it wasn’t weird. It felt like you were finally understanding a piece of Melinda that you had never seen before.

She had always told you stories of when she was little and she would come visit her mother’s grave. Her father made it an event to be cherished and loved instead of sad. They would bring flowers, food, and games to play. It was an all day event and it was one Melinda still carried on even after her father had passed away. Graveyards were a piece of her childhood that always brought her peace. It might seem weird to an outsider but to you… it was an amazing piece of Melinda that you got to see that no one else knew about.

You placed a gentle kiss to Melinda’s lips and then placed your forehead against hers, “There is nothing weird about any of this Melinda. I love every single piece of what makes you the amazing person you are.”

Melinda kissed you again and then grabbed your hand tightly, “Want to go say hi to Mom and Dad before we eat?”

You nodded as Mel helped you to your feet. You stood in front of two identical graves holding your girlfriend’s hand as she greeted her parents.

“Mom. Dad. This is Y/N… the woman I am going to marry one day.”

In the meantime, here’s paranormal investigator Connor having the time of his life in a haunted house. Although things take a weird turn when he runs into what he assumes is someone who’s there for the same reason.

It’s just, there’s something a bit off about Markus. He’s attractive, he’s funny, he’s extremely clever - but he also seems like the loneliest person Connor’s ever met.
