this is just a little rant, i suppose.
I didn’t expect the first time I heard somebody comment on my mobility aid to feel so ...icky. It was just some grown woman saying “Why does she need that...?” while I stood in line and then an “oh, never mind,” when my leg gave out and I caught myself on my stick.
The thing is, she was right behind me.
I’m disabled, not oblivious. I was fully aware she was talking about me and I couldn’t respond because I felt like I was going to fall and needed to leave ASAP. Her indescretion has embarrassed the both of us.
In conclusion: It is R U D E to comment upon other people within their hearing/awareness and if you are going to do it, I advise you to think better of it.
