Bug of the Day
The luxuriously floofy caterpillar of the Spotted Apatelodes (Apatelodes torrefacta), dining on meadowsweet out in the woods earlier this week.

🦋🍂 MOTHVEMBER day 15-16 🍂🦋 Spotted apatelodes is the most intimidating moth in my mothvember list, but that's just their look. They just want to eat some leaves! I like that they have this almost scorpion-like tail, it makes them look like some kind of chimera dragon. I tried to make it look like it belongs to a medieval manuscript art of a new dangerous creature

Bug of the Day
This funky-looking moth, the Spotted Apatelodes (Apatelodes torrefacta), is in the American silkworm moth family. You cannot really tell from this photo, but those “white” patches on the apex of each forewing are actually see-through. Very cool.
Happy National Moth Week!
Bug of the Day
VERY excited to have this show up at the lights last night, even with a wonky wing ;-). This is Spotted Apatelodes (Apatelodes torrefacta), a type of American silk moth and a new species for the yard.
Look at how they move with their little red feet.
