Spring Break: Morning of Day 6 Lower Antelope Canyon Tour
Today was such a great day! Since we drove to Page Arizona after Zion on Tuesday we didn’t have to drive anywhere that wasn’t fifteen minutes or less from our hotel! It was so nice to have such a chill day that wasn’t spent in the car! When woke up we had complimentary breakfast at our hotel and then headed to a Navajo Indian reservation for a tour of Antelope Canyon. We had the best tour guide named Julie! As soon as we got into the canyon she helped everyone in our tour with their camera settings to make sure we took the best pictures. We were all so thankful for that cause our pictures turned out amazing!
On our walk down, she told us why the canyon is no longer opened for people to tour on their own. I don’t remember the year, but back before you had to have a tour to get in a big rain came and lake Powell flooded into the canyon. There was water rushing towards people in the canyon and all they could do was yell at them to get out. There were eleven people that never made it out. All but two bodies were recovered.
While I thought this story was interesting I wish she ‘d waited until after the tour was over to tell us. Luckily there were clear skies and zero chance of rain! We loved walking the narrow canyon as she pointed out different figures hidden in the canyon. It was like looking up at the clouds and guessing what they look like except we were 85 feet underground gazing at orange walls. Our Lower Antelope Canyon tour was the best way to start our day in Page, Arizona. It was only 10:30 when we finished and still had a whole day ahead of us!
