Wife and i went picking spruce tips today!
Busy day 🌸
Spruce tips going into the dehydrator!
Using them this week to try to fight off a nasty cold! Between that and my echinacea elderberry syrup im on day 2 and starting to feel better already!
According to Google:
Spruce tips are the bright-green, tender new growth of spruce trees that emerge in the spring. They are highly prized for being incredibly rich in Vitamin C, acting as a natural immune booster, and providing a fresh, citrusy-pine flavor.
Key Benefits Immune Support: Packed with Vitamin C and antioxidants, making them an excellent natural remedy for fighting off colds, flus, and historically, scurvy.
Respiratory Health: They act as a natural expectorant. Consuming them or breathing in their steam helps loosen chest, throat, and sinus congestion.
Antimicrobial & Antiseptic: Traditionally used in salves or teas to treat minor cuts, soothe sore throats, and ease inflammation.
Rich in Minerals: They contain key minerals like potassium, magnesium, and chlorophyll, which assist in tissue healing and cellular oxygenation.
Modern Times Spruce Tips Hazy IPA (Picked up at Total Wine). A 4 of 4. I'm a sucker for some prominent resin / pine notes in an IPA, and this delivers. There's an interesting complexity to it that I can't quite place, and both of these on top of a standard hazy IPA body is such a nice change of pace from the usual tropical profile. Nice complexity to the resinous notes, and finishes soft and clean without a ton of bitterness.
Winter Morning Magic: Rosehip Grapefruit Curd, Muffins, And More
"Let the refreshing flavors of midwinter feed both body and spirit with recipes for fragrant rosemary-fir muffins filled with tart rose hip and grapefruit curd! Make an extra batch of “Vitamin C Potion” for delicious breakfast drinks as well. Watch how food can heal you. The muffins themselves have the aromatic and savory fragrance of rosemary and fir needles, which perfectly compliment the tart surprise inside: grapefruit and rose-hip curd, the color of a winter sunrise. As a bonus, the extra juice leftover from the curd can be saved to make sunrise orange juice filled with a boost of vitamin C (and maybe some champagne for the grown-ups, too!)" - The Wondersmith
