House Arrest

Oooohhh...hm..

I feel like after the journey's over, Twilight (for ease of not having to write TP Link) might get smacked with full force of Whatever the Fuck he just went through in a short period of time. And more than half of his journey, he can't explain or vent about because telling your pseudo little siblings and village of a family you were a beast for a good chunk of it may not be digestible. On one hand, he's a trusted young adult of the community, but on the other, I feel like a close knit village like that won't be keen to let anyone out of their sight any time soon, including him. There's a point where even love, care, and the best of intentions can feel strangling, and you can feel like a prisoner in your own home. I feel like Link might have an internal tug of war of "this is safe here" versus "this is different and weird now but I can't leave" that would give him that feeling of house arrest pretty strongly. His main view of the political and spiritual parts of the world as a whole got shaken up in a paradigm shift, and he killed a man probably less than a month ago, and saw him die standing. How do you cope with that? How would he walk away from that?

WOW OK I was gonna do these tomorrow because at the moment my “packing” is stuff all over my home office and I’m unable to move forward until the dryer is done and omg I have a 7:30 am flight Friday and I’m working tomorrow and uugghh thank you for the distraction @st0rmyskies

2. Talk about a notable time a narrative or character has looked you dead in the eyes and said “fuck your plan, here’s what we’re actually doing.”

Oh yeah, this happened in my long fic.

-they were not supposed to get together

- 8 chapters in, he said I dig her. She said I am not kissing that hot mess

- the story got darker, I wrote their first kiss just to have a thing to fluff about and eventually decided I knew where it would happen

- chapter 23, they both come to me and go hey we discussed this and that kiss? We are doing that right now.

-they were right.

31. Tell us about one of your characters who’s an absolute joy to write.

I love my middle aged Link. He has a good heart and he tries really hard. He has a good sense of humor. He is insecure and kind of a mess but open to things. He loves horses and coffee. He makes the best out of what life hands him and he is so happy he has people ready to catch him when he stumbles these days.

71. How do you balance writing and life? Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the amount of writing you have to do?

So I came to writing the way I currently do after I started installing boundaries at my job for that mythical work life balance thing. It was somewhat easy for me to say that writing was a thing I did for fun and if it wasn’t fun, it was ok to step back. I immediately fell off that wagon and used writing to get through the hellscape of 2020. Putting myself on an artificial deadline gave me a thing I had to do and meant I didn’t have as much time to go have a breakdown.

I gave myself more breaks in 2021 but I still had fake deadlines. That worked out okay but I ended up writing a bunch for other people (though that meant I wrote some things I really liked) and less for me/fun

I’m trying to read more this year and I find that has actually made me more interested in noodling at some of my own writing. I recently pulled a WIP that sat for a year back to the forefront and one thing I am looking forward to a cross country flight is hours of uninterruptible time to go thrash out a complete draft of that.

So I don’t feel overwhelmed now, but there have been times I have been. I keep reminding myself this is for fun. It’s a hobby. If it’s making me nuts, it’s time to re-evaluate.

:pulls up a beanbag: Trans Roolie you say??

ohhh yes Stormy, trans Roolie was going to Happen. it was right after that update with the leather armor thing Hyrule wore, and brain immediately went ‘that’s a binder’... so I went to write a fic where Hyrule is trans! and I got pretty far in but couldn’t get it fluffy enough :( I didn’t want to talk about dysphoria or be angsty, I wanted a positive and loving fic where everyone accepts Hyrule. but I wanted to have it so Hyrule didn’t realize what being trans was, but also wore a binder, and thus I kept getting trapped in the dysphoria narrative oof. my experience of binding kept leaking through, so I set aside the fic until I could come back to it in a happier headspace. I got super busy with uni work and by the time I was free again I just didn’t have an interest XD it would’ve been a trend fic too, and that trend has somewhat passed, so if I do finish it the original inspiration will have forgotten by the readers. I write a Lot of trans LU/LoZ content and I usually prefer the casual route since I write it for an audience that doesn’t need an explanation or reasons for a character to be trans. so I’ve written trans Hyrule content (which I think you’ve read!) but it hasn’t been long or comprehensive enough to post anywhere :,)

Lol UH WELL--!!

Something about Time needing a nice Manhattan cocktail. And maybe Wild has nightclub bartender experience making drinks and can make it for him, y’know! It may or may not expand to other drinking age members of the house, but we’ll see how inspiration and perception strikes. Here’s a relatively small snippet of the draft for now:

It’s well past midnight, and Time is sitting at the dining table. The only other first floor occupants are Four, Wind, and Hyrule, who took over the couch in the living room after dinner, all three falling asleep halfway through a long trilogy they picked out. The noise of swords and dramatic background music flow into the kitchen, though not enough to distract from his work. He’s not sure what possessed him to bring his haunt of emails down here, the change in setting isn’t helping as much as he’d hoped. 

He feels a tension headache coming, briefly contemplating marking the email thread with Dark and Impa as Spam and drowning his laptop, when he hears footsteps shuffling down the stairs. 

It’s Wild, in an old torn concert shirt, sleeves cut off, with baggy jogger sweatpants, softening his footfalls as he heads in. Time tries not to smile at Wild being startled by the kitchen light being on, squinting his eyes like he just came out of a cave. Judging by the earphone cord hung around his neck, he probably did--no lights except from his laptop, most likely producing new mixes in the dark. His long hair is still damp and drying from his late shower after his club shift earlier in the night.

The boy throws a smile at Time, peeking at the forgotten movie playing, and turning back towards the cabinets by the pantry. Wild softly croons his next question in Time’s direction at the table, noticing the older man’s stress-disheveled hair as he gathers different supplies on the counter, wearing a lazy smile. 

“I was gonna make a couple drinks. Would you want one, sir?”
