Need to rant for a moment about the way exams and grading systems tainted my academia experience for the last 17 years straight
I love learning. I love education and intellectualism. But having to demonstrate knowledge in a certain way as an autistic person is a nightmare, I can read and converse in foreign languages better than my peers but I struggle to pass the language exams. Studying to give the exam papers what they want is not the same as learning freely. It kills my passion.
I finished my final exam ever yesterday. I will graduate university and be free with qualifications that won’t mean shit in the outside world anyway. And I don’t feel bad for not trying to do honours like I originally considered when I started university:
Graduating isn’t going to kill my academic experience. It’s resuscitating it into a new unrestrained life form.
I am more ready to learn than ever before. All I learn will no longer be defined by a tiny sheet of paper and a number. I will be seen for everything I know, not just what I say on exams.
Academia isn’t an institution. It is life itself
