Title: Adjusting
Word Count: 684
Pairing: Jack O'Neill x Reader
A/N: Another little thing I'd written a while ago - this is for @orderoftheflamingflamingos . The ending is shocking purely because I didn't know how to end it lol. Beta'd by my beautiful @lestradeslover . Thanks for reading folks, any comments and feedback are greatly appreciated.
"Brigadier General Jack O'Neill.” You greeted Jack as you stood in the doorway.
You'd been standing there for well over a minute. He'd been lost in whatever report he was reading, though you were pretty sure it was a crossword puzzle.
Jack looked up, the back of his neck twinging as he did so, causing him to grimace for a short second before his expression changed to one of a pleasant surprise.
"Y/N," he pushed himself to stand after pulling the glasses from his nose and came around from behind his desk to meet you on the other side, "I didn't think you were home until tomorrow..."
You leaned up to peck him, resting your hand on his upper arm, "I got an earlier flight. Besides, I couldn't wait to see you and your stars."
"Can't argue with that," Jack mumbled against your lips. He kissed you again. His hands moved around your waist, curving into the small of your back and pulling you flush with him.
You relaxed into the kiss, neither of you caring about the airman stood guard outside of the opened office door.
Your left hand dropped the small duffel bag you were carrying onto the floor so you could touch him properly. With your hands now free they splayed across his chest and slid up to cradle the back of his neck.
Jack was having a hard time adjusting, you knew that. You could tell with every phone call that it was getting to him. After having to place the base of lockdown, only essential and top priority communication had been allowed to pass through. That had made it harder for you to keep in touch, plus the not knowing if the lockdown would ever be lifted - it had been tough for you both as well as everyone else.
It was obvious to anyone that didn't know him behind the sarcastic comments that he was second-guessing every choice he made.
"How are you doing?" You whispered against Jack's lips once the kiss slowed down, "Coping okay?"
"With the job?" he asked and shrugged, "I guess."
"With the responsibility?"
He sighed through his nose and closed his eyes, letting his forehead rest against yours, "Not so much."
Your lips formed a pout and you let your fingers graze the hair at the nape of his neck, "You'll get the hang of it, honey. You adapt, you always do."
His head bowed, "I hate seeing them go through the gate..."
"...and you can't go with them?" you finished all too knowingly, tilting your head to see his face.
When you had given up the gate travel it had been hard to say the least, but now you were speaking from a few years of experience. It hadn’t been easy for you to watch Jack go off world with SG1 when you first stopped, it was the not knowing that had made you worry the most. You also knew SG1's track record with trouble having been there for most of it - which didn't help ease the worry either.
He lifted his head and quirked an eyebrow, "What did I do to deserve you, hm?"
A grin appeared instantly on his face and you blushed, "Just be yourself. You have every man and woman on this base behind you, trust them to trust you." You gave him a minute to let that sink in before tapping his stomach with the back of your hand, "Now c'mon General, there's a steak and a beer with our name on it at O'Malley's - aeroplane food isn't food."
He tried to stifle a smile as he picked up the phone to ring through to Walter to tell him he was leaving for the evening before packing up his things.
You waited outside the locker rooms for Jack, nodding and smiling at everyone you knew, there were a few new faces but you knew most of them. This place would always be your home, these people were family. Once Jack was done changing you both had a well-deserved dinner out. A nice way to come home.

As John made his way around the Atlantis base, his eyes scouring every room for you, his heart beat nervously in his chest. Over the course of the few months you had been settling in at the Atlantis base, becoming a new team member, John had fallen completely head-over-heels for you.
He debated constantly when or if he should tell you about how he felt, often chickening out last minute. But as the Earthly holiday of love slowly infected the Atlantis base, he felt more courage than he had before.
So here he was, looking desperately for you, hoping to whisk you away to his room, where he had set up a dinner for the two of you. He got flowers chocolates, and hopefully the confidence to tell you exactly how he felt.
"Hey Zelenka!" He called out as the scientist walked past "You seen Y/n?"
"Oh yes, roof, I believe."
"Roof." John sighed out with realization. You often went out to look out at the water to relax.
Quickly making his way up to the roof, he took a few deep breaths, hoping to quiet his anxieties.
As he made his way out onto the roof his eyes moved around, before finally spotting you sitting up on a roof ledge, legs dangling over as you peered out at the water. He always felt a nervous flutter in his stomach when he saw you there, so close to danger, yet appearing so peaceful.
Making sure his steps could be heard, so he did not startled you, he walked over. Turning your head to look back, you smiled as you saw him.
"Hello John." You greeted, your own heart fluttering in your chest as you saw his familiar warm smile.
"Hey Y/n." Leaning on the edge of the wall, he looked over for a moment before looking at you "You got any plans for this evening?"
You shook your head with a soft smile "No, why?"
"Well, I thought you might join me, for dinner."
You felt butterflies in your stomach as you smiled "I'd love to."
You'd often sit in the mess hall with John or the others and eat, you enjoyed spending that time with them. You wondered if the others would be joining you again tonight.
"Great!" He said with a bright smile "You hungry now?"
You let out a soft laugh "Yes actually I am. I was planning on heading in to eat soon."
As you turned around, facing the roof, you moved to jump down. John reached out his hand or you to take as you did so, and you smiled softly as you took it.
Jumping down from the ledge you expected John to release your hand, but you were surprised when he did not, instead he smiled almost bashfully at you as he lead you inside.
You felt your cheeks and neck warm up as his hand continued to hold yours. You were not averse to the action, far from it actually, but you were definitely caught off guard by it.
As you stood in the lift, making your way down, John cleared his throat, "I think you'll like what I got for dinner."
You frowned slightly, unsure of what he meant. "What do you mean? Are they serving something unusual today?"
As you said this, John realized he had made an error. He was not specific enough.
"Oh, no, uh, when I asked if you would eat with me, I meant just the two of us, I had something special made up for us."
Your heart was now pounding in your chest, and the reason behind his holding your hand started to make a bit more sense.
You smiled at him "Oh, I see, that sounds wonderful."
He smiled at you, obviously relieved you were still happy to have dinner with him. He glanced down at your still intertwined hands and smiled to himself.
As the lift doors opened to the floor where you knew John's room was on your stomach grew tighter as you began to grow nervous. You had feelings for John, you had since you first met him.
Now your mind was full of thoughts of what this dinner was for, why was he holding your hand, did this mean he felt the same as you? The way he looked at you seemed to express enough, but you still held doubts.
Making your way into John's room, you were stunned to see a table set up for dinner, complete with candles. John quickly pulled out his phone and you watched him for a moment before he looked back up at you.
"Our food will show up son, I had the kitchen hold it while I looked for you."
You smiled fondly at him as he seemed to hold a nervous energy about him.
"Oh!" He exclaimed softly, before grabbing something off the counter, turning back around he handed you a bouquet of beautiful red flowers "I got these for you".
You looked at them in awe before looking up at John "Oh they're beautiful, what are they?"
He smiled "They're called dahlias."
As you smelled them, you looked back at John "What are these for? What is all of this for John?" Your tone was bewildered but obviously pleased.
John smiled "Valentines day."
You blinked a few times "Why? What is, Valentines day?"
As realization washed over John, he let out a soft chuckle "It's an Earth holiday, obviously, I thought you may have heard about it by now."
You shook your head "What does it mean?"
"Oh, that's- uh, well, it's a holiday for people to celebrate love, and relationships of all kinds."
"So you are celebrating our...friendship?" You asked softly, worried you misinterpreted what this was.
He smiled "No, not really. Uhm, it is a holiday mostly celebrated by couples, it's a romantic holiday. And a lot of people, including me in this case use it as a way to express how they feel about someone."
Now your heart was beating faster again, maybe you did not misunderstand after all.
"And what it is you are trying to express to me?"
He smiled as he took a step closer to you his eyes grazed your face softly before he spoke "I wanted to express that I am crazy about you." As you smiled brightly at his confession, he felt more confident "And I've been a coward these past couple months having not told you and I'm sorry it took so long."
You smiled bashfully at him before you spoke softly "I have been a coward too then."
He grinned at you, as you stared at each other for a moment in blissful silence. Reaching over, he gently caressed the back of your hand before he met your eyes again "I really like you."
"I really like you too John."
Leaning closer, slowly, his eyes drifted from your eyes down to your lips. Gently, your lips met in a soft kiss, as John's hand gently drifted up your arm, before he cupped your chin and deepened the kiss.
You had a feeling you were really going to enjoy this new holiday.

You winced as Ronon slammed John down onto the training mat for the third time. "Getting tired?" Ronon asked with a smirk.
"No!" Sheppard yes as he stumbled to stand. "Just biding my time, wearing you down."
"Uh-huh"
You smiled at their banter as you looked back at Ronon, watching as he circled John. Your eyes trailed up his chiseled arms, up to his defined shoulders.
"Enjoying the show?"
You jumped at the sudden whispering voice beside you. Looking over, you saw Teyla watching you with an amused grin.
"What?" You laughed out, swallowing.
She leaned against the wall beside you. "You seemed to be quite interested in Ronon's....skills."
You rolled your eyes. "I'm watching them train, Teyla."
"Mhm." She hummed as you heard her snicker under her breath. After a short moment of silence, she leaned closer and spoke softly. "When are you going to tell him that you have feelings for him?"
Your heart leapt in your chest as you looked over at Ronon, making sure he could not hear you. You looked back at Teyla and shook your head. "Who said I was ever going to?"
"Oh come on, Y/n. You two would be perfect together."
You let out a small scoff and shook your head. "Well I'm sorry to disappoint you Teyla, but I don't think Ro- I don't think he, has ever looked at me and ever seen anything more than a friend."
Seeing true disappointment flash across your face, she frowned. "I think he has."
"We both know how blunt he is Teyla, he doesn't hide things like I do. If he felt something, don't you think he would have said so by now?"
You could see her weighing your words before she let out a soft sigh. "Perhaps you are right. I'm sorry."
You smiled softly at her as you looked back over at Ronon. "Maybe it's time I try and move on from these feelings. It could only hurt me to keep waiting for something to happen when I know it never will."
Teyla thought for a moment. "Well, you know. Lieutenant Thompson seems to have an interest in you."
"You mean James?" She nodded. "Yeah, I know. He asked me on a date a few days ago, but I said no."
"Maybe you could change your mind?'
Watching as Ronon smiled coyly and took a towel from a pretty ogling soldier, who had been watching from the other side of the room. You felt disappointment fill you.
You let out a soft sigh. "Yeah, I suppose I could." You looked over at Teyla and gave her a soft smile, and she gently squeezed your shoulder. "And, I guess now is a better time than any." You said pushing away from the wall. Giving Ronon one more glance, you left the room, unaware that his eyes followed you out.
Teyla, however, did notice. She also noticed the frown that crossed his face when you left. Ronon crossed the room and approached her, "Wheres Y/n going? What were you guys talking about?"
His eyes were locked on the door you had walked out of. He caught a few words from your conversation with Teyla. 'When are you going to tell him' 'Something about 'feelings', and you said a name 'James?' Who was that? And was he the one you had feelings for? His heart seemed to ache in his chest at the idea.
Teyla squinted at him. "Why do you care?"
He looked back at Teyla. "Uh, well, they usually stay around after my training sessions, to either have a small spar, or we go get some food."
"Well I think Y/n has something more...interesting to do."
"What does that mean?"
"Well, they went to go discuss a date."
She watched closely as Ronon adjusted his stance, clearly caught by surprise at this. "What date?"
"With Lieutenant Thompson of course. He's quite interested in Y/n."
'So Thompson is James?' Ronon felt his face fall. "Is he now?"
Teyla smiled, seeing the clear jealousy that crossed his face. She shook her head and leaned closer to him, speaking quietly. "Sorry to break it to you Ronon, but you hid your feelings to well, and waited to long."
He peered down at her. "What does that mean?"
She let out an aggravated sigh. "Are you really so daft? Y/n has been waiting around for you to show any interest in them for months now. Someone can only wait so long before they finally give up."
Walking away from him with a shake of her head Ronon stared after her. Had you truly been waiting that long? And was he so bad at showing how he felt that you never saw it? Now guilt sat in his chest, paired with his jealousy.
------
You let out a defeated sigh as you looked around the cafeteria. You had been waiting for James to get back from his mission to speak with him, but now you could not find him.
Turning to leave, you halted in your steps as you saw him enter. Walking quickly towards him, you smiled. "James."
"Oh, hey Y/n." You were a bit thrown off by his behavior. He seemed happy to see you, yet more reserved than normal.
"I just wanted to talk to you, about that date you asked me on earlier-"
"Oh, don't worry, you don't have to explain."
"What do-"
"Ronon told me."
You stared at him unblinkingly for a moment. "I'm sorry, what did Ronon tell you exactly?"
"That you tow were together, dating."
"Me and Ronon are...dating?"
"Yeah...that's what he said at least. He explained that you refused my date, because you guys hadn't told anyone yet. So no worries, I'm glad you two are happy."
He smiled at you before brushing past you, leaving you perplexed, with your heart pounding. Looking back into the cafeteria, your eyes caught on Ronon as he passed by the doorway.
Following after him, you caught up with him in an empty hallway. Grabbing his arm, he turned around and you smacked him on the chest.
"Ow. What-"
"Did you tell the guy I was gonna go out with that we're dating?"
So you talked to James. He cleared his throat. "Yeah, maybe." You saw a soft smile almost crossing his face. You felt your gut clench and let out a scoff.
"Is my love life just a joke to you or something Ronon?"
"What?" His face fell.
"You made sure James wouldn't go out with me now. Why would you lie to him like that, I don't get it."
"Oh come on, he's a jerk."
"Since when did you know him?"
"I guess I don't really, but I've heard him talking, and he has a reputation. He'd only hurt you."
'A reputation? What kind of reputation?'
You shook your head. "Why didn't you just tell me that? Why did you tell him we were dating? What was the point in that?"
He shrugged lightly and cleared his throat. "I guess it wasn't so much a lie, as it was...a wish?"
Your words died in your throat as you were unsure of what to say. "I- a- what?"
Looking past your shoulder, he could hear some people walking closer. Grabbing your wrist he pulled you along the corridor and into the empty training room.
When you were alone, he looked down at you and sighed. "I get that I messed up. I didn't tell you how I felt, even though you were hoping, or expecting me too. I just. I thought they were obvious, but now, I know they weren't at all. And that's my fault. Hearing that you were going to go on a date with James, I got... jealous. And I decided to finally say something."
'Feelings?' 'Jealous?' Your stomach was bursting with butterflies, and your heart beating heavily in your chest. "I...I should have told you, what I felt, maybe then it wouldn't have taken so long."
Ronon smiled down at you as you looked timidly down at your feet. Hooking his finger under your chin, he made you look at him. "I'm sorry I made you wait so long to know for sure. I didn't want to hurt you like that."
You smiled tenderly at him. "I know you didn't."
Taking a step closer, he brought his face down, pressing a kiss to your cheek. You felt your face heat up, as you repressed a grin.
"I'm still curious about something." You said softly.
"What?"
"Why did you go to James before me?"
"I was looking for you, but I ran across him first. I asked if he had talked to you, and he said no. Then he started talking about you, and how much he liked you, and I just... told him that we were together. He assumed that was why you had refused to go out with him, and I just went with it. Afterwards, I went looking for you again, but I guess I was too late, you had found him first."
"And, if he finds out that was a lie?"
"Why does he have to?" He asked with a smile.
You returned his smile, letting out a soft chuckle. "I guess he doesn't."
Ronon gently caressed your cheek with his fingers. "Does that mean that we are...dating, now?"
"Do you want it to?"
"Of course."
"Me too."
His smile grew. "Great. Then we are." Leaning down a bit loser, so his nose nudged yours, he cupped your face with his hand and stared into your eyes.
"Does that mean I can kiss you now?"
You bit your lip lightly before you nodded softly. "Yes."
His eyes scanned your lips as he slowly leaned in, your eyes closed just as his lips pressed against yours.
Slowly, you lifted your arms, wrapping them around his neck as he moved to wrap his arms around you, pulling you flush against his body as he deepened the kiss.
Picking you up off the ground a bit, you broke the kiss with a soft laugh. He grinned at you before setting you back down, bringing both of his hands up and cupping your face and kissing you again.

Walking down the hall, with a garbage bag in your hand, you smiled innocently as some soldiers walked past. Watching them disappear around the corner, you quickly reached into the bag and pulled out a band of orange garland.
Draping it along a nearby bookcase, you quickly looked around as you made your way into Rodney's office.
You knew Rodney was at lunch, so this was the perfect moment. Pulling out a small ghost figurine, you placed it on his desk, before tapping it on the head.
Next, you placed an orange wreath on the door. Grabbing another garland, you got on your tip-toes, and began to drape it along the top of his bookcase.
Hearing someone clear their throat behind you, you froze, arms up, garland still in hand.
Slowly looking back over your shoulder, you saw John leaning against the doorway, watching you with a smirk on his face.
You smiled innocently "Hello" you said in a sing-song voice.
His smile widened "Hello." He repeated, before he stepped into the room "So, you're the phantom decorator."
Dropping the garland where it was, you turned to face him, arms behind back, as you rocked on your feet.
"That depends on what you're gonna do about it if I am."
He hummed as he walked further into the room, placing his hands behind his back like you had.
Stopping right in front of you, he leaned in a bit and whispered "I'm not gonna do anything. In fact, I was gonna ask if you needed help."
A smile slowly spread across your face "Oh you were, were you?"
He nodded softly "Yep. I too think this place needs a little re-decorating. It is the holiday season after all."
"Well then-" reaching into the bag and pulling out a strand of purple ghost garland, you draped it around the back of his shoulders with a smile. "Get busy, Rodney finishes his lunch at 12:30."
Smiling, John leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to your cheek as he grabbed the garland "I had a feeling it was you ya' know. You're the one person I can imagine doing it. But, how did you decorate Carson's office? It happened when we were off world."
You smiled and shrugged, refusing to answer.
You didn't need to decorate Carson's office. All you had to do was leave a bag of decorations by his door and he would do the work himself. He said it was the "phantom decorator" solely so he would not get chastised for having done it himself. But John didn't need to know that.
John squinted "Alright, I get it. I'm not the first person to help you."
"Actually, you're the only person who knows about me." You admitted.
John watched you curiously, as you smiled gleefully, before placing a fake spider in Rodney's desk drawer for him to discover later.
After Rodney's office was well and truly festive, you eyed John. "Do you think we could get into Weir's office?"
John let out a huff of air "Now you're just playing with fire."
You smiled and shrugged your shoulder "It's the last place I have yet to add any decorations. My magnum opus, perhaps. You don't have to go with me."
He shook his head and smiled "I might regret this, but, let's do it."
As you and John approached Weirs office, you looked around cautiously. You couldn't hear anyone, and Weir's office light was off, signaling her absence.
Jiggling the handle, you locked eyes as the door creaked open.
Just as you were about to go in, a head popped around the corner of the doorway.
"What are you doing?"
You let out a startled yelp, as John let out a low gasp. Ronon smiled happily at the two of you, amused that he scared you.
You glanced down at the decoration filled garbage bag you had dropped, before looking at John. You both looked at Ronon, unsure of what to do.
You shrugged lightly "Uhhh, breaking into Weirs office to decorate it for Halloween?"
Ronon looked down at the bag at your feet "So you two weren't trying to find a secret place to make-out or something?"
"What?" You and John questioned at the same time, bewildered.
Ronon looked back at the bag before he turned away. "Lame. Have fun I guess."
You and John shared another bewildered look, before John stepped out and called out in a half-whisper "Don't tell anyone!"
Ronon waved his hand dismissively, but you were both sure he wouldn't say anything.
Quickly rushing into Weirs office, John locked it behind you. You looked around the darkened room, beginning to plan where and what to decorate.
"You know..." John began as he leaned in closer to you, as you looked over at him "This would be a good time and place to secretly make out."
You rolled your eyes and smacked him in the arm, while repressing a giggle.
"Ow." He chuckled as he rubbed his arm "Just a thought."
"Hurry up and decorate before she comes back. If we make it out of this safely, you might get your wish."
"Don't gotta tell me twice." John said playfully as he began to dig out the decorations.

Jonas wasn't very subtle, even if he thought he was. The way his eyes were glued to you every time you were in the room. The way his eyes lit up when you were talking to him. Jack said he was like a love-sick puppy. Sam thought it was adorable, the way he seemed head-over heels for you. Stealing looks at you at any moment.
Obviously you noticed, but you were even more shy than him in some ways, and of course would say nothing.
You stole your fair few of secret glances at him as well. Admiring his bright smile when something exciting was happening. The way he was always interested in what others were saying. Watching him when he was so drawn into a book or problem that he was unaware of his surroundings. You seemed to be the only one able to pull him out of his thoughts. With one mention of his name his eyes would shoot up to meet yours, and you had all of his attention.
As much as you wanted him to tell you how he felt, you did have to admit, you enjoyed his not so subtle pining. It was new. And unexpected. No one had ever looked at you like he did. Every time his eyes would shine and his dimples would show when he smiled at you, you felt like you were on fire.
You wished you had the courage yourself to say something, to do something about it yourself, but that was a realm of courage that did not seem to exist for you. At least not yet.
- - - - - -
Jonas perked up as the sound of your laugh met his ears. Leaning back in his chair, he spotted you in the hall, talking to Janet.
He let out a soft sigh as he took the moment to study and admire your features. The way your eyes crinkled as you smiled, and the almost delicate curl of your lips. The way you tilted your head a bit to the side as you listened to someone speak.
Jonas stole every moment he could to look at you. These secret glances, where he didn't have to worry about you catching him studying your face.
Seeing you begin to look his way, he threw himself forward, back towards his desk with a loud clang. He closed his eyes tightly as he winced in embarrassment, there was no way you didn't see that.
Looking over towards Jonas's door, you spotted a flash of movement as he seemed to disappear from view, as a loud clang of his chair could be heard. You smiled to yourself before you continued down the hall with Janet. You felt your ears burning as he realized he had been staring at you again.
"He's not very subtle is he?" Janet asked with obvious amusement in her voice.
Your smile widened, "I think it's cute."
"Then why don't you tell him?"
"Are you kidding? He would melt into a puddle on the spot out of embarrassment and then he'd never look at me again."
She chuckled. "You might be right. Maybe he'll buck up and find some courage to ask you out one of these days."
You grinned at the thought. "We'll see."
Jonas slowly leaned back in his chair again. Seeing that the hall was now empty, he let out a deep sigh as he rubbed his face. He was hopeless.
- - - - - -
You were singing softly to yourself as you flipped through your book, searching for a passage of particular interest.
"Of all the comrades that e'er I had, they're sorry for my going away. And all the sweethearts that e'er I loved, they'd wish me one more day, to stay."
Jonas smiled softly as he listened to the soft melody. He was leaning against the doorway of your office, watching you. He had come in to ask about your research, but when he heard you singing softly, he didn't dare interrupt, and instead allowed himself a moment to watch you.
Finally spotting him out of the corner of your eye, you looked up, to see Jonas watching you. You felt your heart jolt, and you smiled at him. "Hello Jonas."
You saw the moment where Jonas realized you saw him, and that you had spoken to him, as his eyes widened a bit and he straightened up. "Oh, hi. Sorry, I was just- I didn't want to interrupt, your singing was lovely."
You chuckled softly "I wouldn't describe it as lovely, but thank you."
"It was." He defended as he stepped closer. "Really."
You smiled at him, feeling your face growing hot. "Thank you." You cleared your throat "Did you need something?"
"Oh! Yes, uh...I was just coming to see how your research was going."
"Not much better than before I'm afraid." You admitted as you closed your book. "Yours?"
"Same. I'm afraid we're both stuck."
You hummed under your breath "Perhaps Sam or Daniel have something."
As you stacked your books, you glanced back at Jonas, finding him already staring at you. You could feel butterflies in your stomach as you looked away again, unsure of what to do or say.
Jonas stepped closer as he pulled his journal close to his chest. "Y/n?" He asked softly.
Looking back at him, you smile "Yes?"
He opened his mouth, only to close it again quickly. Looking down and back up you saw him swallow before taking in a breath. "Would you like to have dinner with me?" He finally blurted out.
"Dinner?"
"Yes. Not in the cafeteria, I mean. Maybe we can get some food and come back here, to eat, together, alone."
You smiled at him "Yeah, sure. That sounds nice."
"It does?"
You let out a soft chuckle. "Yes, Jonas, it does."
"Oh, good, great." He grinned at you before he looked around, as though he was unsure of what to do now. "Uhm, perhaps we could meet up to get food later, around six?"
"Six." You nodded with a smile.
He nodded his head and smiled. "Six it is. Okay. I'm uh, I'm going to go ask Dr. Jackson about his progress, and I will see you later. At six."
"At six." You confirmed again with an amused smile as he began to walk out.
He gave you one last wave and smile before he disappeared, leaving you alone grinning to yourself.
As Jonas headed down the hall, he let out a long deep breath as his heart pounded heavily. As a grin spread across his face, he allowed himself a moment of elation and relief. He may be hopeless, but at least he could no longer claim to be a coward.
xx End xx
It's a shame no one writes for Jonas, and I'm sure barely anyone will read this. But I hope to write for him more in the future anyways. He is very underrated.

As your footsteps echoed down the empty corridor, your previously silent mind started to buzz as Daniel came into view. He was walking slowly down the long corridor, his eyes downcast as he held a book in his hands, his glasses slowly falling down his nose.
Your heart began to hammer in your chest as you watched him, butterflies erupted in your stomach, making you feel as though you might be sick. You hated that you always felt this way when you saw him, your feelings bubbling to the surface so abruptly, you were afraid they were written on your face.
Swallowing down your anxiety, you spoke, our voice echoing slightly off the metal walls. "Hey Daniel."
His eyes shot up at the sound of your voice, and for a moment you thought you saw something sparkle behind his eyes. But as he snapped the book in his hands shut and gave you a soft, yet almost forced smile, you thought you had been imagining it.
"Hey Y/n." He said as he paused for a moment. You saw his eyes dart past you and down the hall, as though he was looking for someone.
"Everything alright?" You asked curiously as his whole demeanor seemed to change.
He raised his brow and rocked on hi feet for a moment. "What? Yeah, yeah everything is fine, why do you ask?"
You hesitated for a moment as confusion washed over you. You smiled at him and shook your head. "No reason I guess."
He nodded and swallowed, before clearing his throat, pointing down the hall he forced another smile at you. "I gotta go, I'e got some reports to fill out."
You smiled and nodded, watching as he walked past you. You saw him rub the back of his neck as he disappeared around the corner.
Staring at the now empty corridor, you felt your chest begin to ache as you went over what just happened. You tried to force yourself to think that he was distracted with something else, that something was bothering him, and that it wasn't you that seemed to unnerve him.
But you failed to ignore this possibility as you kept replaying in interaction over in your mind. The way he seemed to have been uncomfortable in your presence. The way he practically ran away from you. Did you do something? Did he hear something? A rumor? A lie? Did someone tell him you had feelings for him and now he was uncomfortable around you?
No, the only person who knew, or at least the only one you knew, knew, was Sam. And she wouldn't do that to you. Would she?
Finding Sam in one of the labs, you stood awkwardly in the doorway, finding Jack in the room as well as he seemed to be trying to understand something Sam was talking about.
Noticing you, Sam smiled at you and greeted you, but upon seeing your somewhat distracted and unusual demeanor she frowned and walked a bit closer. "What's wrong Y/n?"
You looked between her and Jack, and stepped a bit closer. "Uh, I was just wondering. Have either of you noticed Daniel, acting a bit weird?"
Sam and Jack shared a look that you knew meant something, but as they looked back at you, they shook their heads in unison. You knit your brow as you watched them for a minute. "Did I do something?" You asked, you voice almost appearing desperate as you began to worry there was something wrong.
Sam, realizing this, took another step closer and placed her hands on your shoulders. "You haven't done anything Y/n. It's just-" she hesitated, letting out a sigh as she glanced back at Jack. "It's not really my place to say, but...if you are worried about Daniel, talk to him."
You scoffed lightly. "I tried to earlier, he practically ran away from me, Sam whats going on?"
She shook her head a bit, "Just...try again. I'm sure he'll tell you, it just might take a bit of..."
"Courage." Jack said from behind her.
You looked back at him and he shrugged his shoulder at you. You let out a sigh. "Alright, I'll go find him." You stepped back, and Sam nodded at you, almost encouragingly. You thought you saw something behind her gaze, but it was gone almost the same instant.
Stopping outside of Daniels office, you hesitated before knocking. You didn't know what to say to Daniel, how to ask him what was wrong. Something clearly happened, something that was causing him to avoid you, or maybe avoid every one. You were worried about him, and you were worried he did not trust you enough to confide in you, even though you thought you were close.
Letting out a deep breath, you knocked on the door. You heard Daniels voice come from within. "Come in."
You slowly opened the door and peaked in. Daniel looked up from the papers in front of you. When his eyes met yours Daniel seemed almost surprised. He smiled at you, this time it didn't seem as forced, but it was still hiding something.
"Can I come in?"
You thought Daniel hesitated for a moment, but he sat up and nodded. You stepped in, closing the door behind you. Daniel shuffled the papers around on his desk as he seemed to avoid looking at you. "You need something?" His voice was rushed, and he almost seemed flustered at your arrival, just as he had been when you were in the corridor together.
You watched him for a moment, your chest tightening as you saw the way he was acting again. After you didn't speak for a moment, Daniel looked back up at you. He seemed to really look at you for the first time. You were leaned against the door, your face knit with worry, maybe even fear? You seemed as though you were ready to run out the door at any moment. As though you weren't sure you wanted to be here at all. Daniels own anxiety and thoughts seemed to dissipate as he saw this.
You watched as worry seemed to cross his face as he stood up. "What's wrong Y/n? Did something happen?" The previous avoidance in his demeanor seemed to fade as he rounded his desk, watching you with the familiar fond and worried gaze you had seen many times before.
The familiar butterflies fluttered through you again, but you pushed them away. This was not the time.
You took a step away from the door, as you watched him. "Actually, I'm here to ask you the same thing."
Daniel opened his mouth but didn't say anything. He tilted his head slightly as he stared at you with confusion. "I'm sorry, what?"
"Well-" You began as you walked over t his desk, fiddling with some of the knickknacks he had placed on the edge. You could feel him watching you.
"This morning in the hall, you seemed to want to get away from me pretty quickly. Like I did something. I asked Sam and Jack if something happened, and they, hinted, that it wasn't me, but that something was wrong, and that I should try to ask you again." You looked back at him, seeing him staring at you a little more intensely than before. You shrugged your shoulder a bit. "I guess maybe it's not my place, but I thought we were...close enough, that I was someone you would tell, when something was wrong. But...You seem to be avoiding me, and I can't help but wonder if I am the problem."
You saw what appeared to be regret pass over his face as he shook his head. He stepped closer. "No, Y/n you didn't do anything, I'm sorry that I made you think you did, I just...I was..." He sighed as he turned away, rubbing his neck as he seemed to try and find his words.
Turning back towards you, he reached out his hand, gesturing at you. "We are close...we are. You're one of my closest friends, I trust you with, everything, but-" He let out a soft sigh as he stared at you.
"But what?" You asked softly as you took a step closer to him.
He hesitated as he shoved his hands in his pockets and shrugged, letting out a chuckle, filled with anxiety and frustration. "I-don't know how to do this. I don't wanna ruin our friendship, and I think that's why I've been avoiding you, because every time I'm around you, I want to tell you, but then I get this terrible thought that you'll hate me afterwards, that you-you'll decide you don't want to be around me anymore, and I just....run." He let out a frustrated sigh.
"Jesus Daniel-" You began, fear rocketing through you as you approached him, stopping right in front of you. "What happened?" Your voice was soft, but almost forceful.
His eyes locked with yours as he let out a soft sigh, you saw his shoulders drop a bit as he finally let go of what it was holding him back. "What happened?" He repeated and you saw a soft smile cross his face as he stared into your eyes. You felt your gut clench as he stared at you like that, unsure of what it meant. "What happened is that I...don't want to just be your friend any more Y/n."
As Daniel saw your face change from confusion to subtle realization, he continued. "I don't really know when it happened, but one day I just...started to see you differently. I started to notice different things. The way your voice gets a bit higher when you're scared or angry. The way you tilt your head when you are listening to someone talk. They way your eyes seem to change color when the sun hits them. I started to get nervous when you were around, I wanted to be around you, but I wanted to run at the same time. I don't know when I started getting flustered anytime you smiled at me or sat close beside me, but it happened, and I...wasn't sure what to do." He finished his speech with a small shrug of his shoulders.
You opened your mouth to talk but nothing came out. His words swirled around your head and you seemed frozen. The things you ad wanted to hear, were actually said. The things you had been feeling for so long, he was feeling too.
Daniel took your silence as the opposite of what you wanted, and he stepped away a bit as h turned, clearly unsure of what to do. "That's why I was afraid to say anything, I didn't want to ruin our friendship."
You could hear the anxiety and pain in his voice, and it shook you from your thoughts. You reached out and gently grabbed his shoulder. "Daniel." He stayed turned away, but turned his had back a bit. "You haven't ruined anything. I just... I was never expecting you to say those things. It's the same reason I never said anything to you. I never wanted to ruin this either."
You saw Daniel knit his brow as he spun around, looking back at you. His face looked puzzled as he tried to understand your words. "What?" He said softly.
You smiled shyly at him. "Those things you said you started to notice about me, suddenly? Things that made you realize something changed?" He nodded, the movement almost unnoticeable. "I see similar things in you. The way you cross your arms when you are frustrated. The way you chew on your pen when you are lost in thought. How close in color yours eyes seem to be, to the blue of the Stargate? I don't really know when it changed for me either, but it did. And I was scared too."
Daniel stared at you as you spoke, realization taking over as a smile began to cross his face. When there was silence between you, your locked eyes allowed you to speak silently. He took a small step closer to you, as he continued to stared int your eyes. Slowly, almost hesitantly, he brought his hand up and gently caressed the side of your face as he smiled.
"I'm sorry I ran away. But one of the most frightening things I can think of, is losing you, in any way."
You smiled at him, nodding your head a little. "I have the same fear."
Daniel brought his hand underneath your chin as he inched a bit closer. Your eyes met as you leaned in as well. Your lips hovered in front of each other, brushing ever-so-slightly before you leaned in completely, your lips meeting in a kiss. It wasn't awkward, or hesitant, there was no reservation. It was deep, passionate, expressing the repressed feelings you had both held within you for too long.
xx End xx
Sorry for the abrupt ending, but I am very bad at them lmao.

As Cameron checked the lock on the front door, he walked through the house turning off the lights. His body ached lightly from the mission earlier in the day, and his chest was tight from the emotion that came with it. He wanted nothing more than to slide into bed and hold you.
Walking into the bedroom, he heard the bathroom sink turn off and the door open. As you stepped out, his eyes immediately raked over you.
You were wearing one of his casual shirts, which sat on you comfortably, showing enough of your legs that his eyes lingered. A soft smile played on his lips "Is that my shirt?"
Looking over at him and then down at the shirt, you rose one brow and looked back at him "You mean our shirt?"
"Oh, it's our shirt now is it?" He asked playfully as he walked over to you, placing his hands on your waist.
You smiled "It is now."
He let out a soft snort before giving you a soft and quick kiss. "It looks better on you anyways."
Climbing into bed together, you rested your head on his chest as he wrapped his arms around you. Pressing a quick kiss to your head before he rested it on the pillow, he let out a comfortable sigh.
You nestled your head a bit as you closed your eyes. You could hear his heart beating in his chest. Your own mind raced, yet was exhausted at the same time.
"Rough day." You commented softly.
He hummed "Yeah."
"Are you sure you're okay?"
Cameron looked up at the ceiling for a moment before he spoke. "It was a tough one, but I'm good."
"How about you?"
You thought for a moment "I hate how it turned out, but we helped a lot of people."
"That's the part to focus on." He squeezed you a little tighter "And besides, as long as I have you at the end of each day, I'm happy."
You smiled to yourself before you looked up at him. You pressed a kiss to his jaw before pressing your head into the crook of his neck.
Thinking about the couple you had met on the mission, melancholy rushed over you. Nyeta and Sennis. They were newly-weds, happy, they believed they were meant for each other since the moment they laid eyes on one another. Love at first sight.
The village they lived in was attacked by Goa'uld while you were visiting the planet. Nyeta got stuck in the middle of the battle, and Sennis went after them. You later found them wrapped in each other's arms, neither had made it.
"Nyeta and Sennis reminded me of us. I don't think either of us would have done differently than Sennis did." You commented softly.
You knew that both you and Cameron would run into fire for one another if you needed to.
"Yeah." He replied softly.
Pulling away from Cameron as he adjusted himself, he laid his head beside yours as he stared into your eyes. Gently caressing your cheek he smiled softly.
"When they told us how they had met it reminded me of us too. One look and they knew they were meant for one another."
"I thought you didn't believe in love at first sight?"
"I didn't, or don't I guess. But, the closest thing to love at first sight I've ever experienced happened when I first laid eyes on you."
You smiled at this as you gently took his hand in yours "I felt it too."
"Yeah?"
You nodded "How could I not? Tall, pretty eyed stranger shows up and saves me? Gives me a new life of purpose? I was doomed."
He chuckled lightly "And how could I leave you there? Beautiful stranger with a heart of gold, ready to die for what they believed in. I was smitten."
You smiled softly at each other for a moment as the memory of your first meeting ran through both your minds. Your smile faded slowly as you squeezed his hand.
"We'll have a better ending than them wont we? Nyeta and Sennis?"
Cameron nodded, determination in his eyes as he leaned forward, pressing his forehead against yours. "Yes. We will. I know we will."
"Promise?"
"I promise." He replied quickly.
Leaning in he sealed the promise with a kiss, knowing he would fight a thousand battled to make sure you were with him at the end of each day, just like this. You were his forever.
