Mechanically Pokemon, Shin Megami Tensei and Persona are the same game (with the slight caveat that Persona and SMT have a party member you can't remove and if they fall in battle it counts as a loss but everyone else can fall and be revived mid battle with no issue), a creature collector with a heavy focus on exploration and combat where you're expected to change your party as the game progresses to stay ahead of type match ups.
