Mafiosi get their start early. Here, Carmine Persico, 17, is being held without bail at Brooklyn's Bergen St. police station on March 2, 1951, on a homicide charge. He was accused of shooting Steve Bove, 26, whose body was found in a gutter, shot from behind. Persico ultimately became the long-time boss of the Colombo crime family from 1973 until his death. He was serving a sentence of 139 years in a federal prison from 1987 when he died on March 7, 2019.
