I know most, if not all of my follwers are not in the Philippines, but it happened again. Frank Gregorio and Sonya Gregorio has been murdered by another policeman, Jonel Nuezca, who was meant to protect them. This is yet another incident in a long list that our government is doing absolutely nothing about. In fact, Duterte has promised that “he won’t let any police go to jail.” They refuse to wear body cams because, according to Chief Superintendent Joseph Abnol: “our body cams is god himself.”

The video made me sick to my stomach, but for all of those who want to know what happened, the victims, Jonel, and his daughter was involved in an altercation. Things escalated when Jonel’s daughter and Sonya got into a heated argument. His daughter proudly proclaimed: “My father is a policeman.” Sonya replied that she doesn’t care. At that point, Jonel pulls his gun out and says “want me to end you right now?” He then shoots both Sonya and Frank Gregorio point black in front of his daughter.

This has become part of the police culture in the Philippines. There are two other cases against Jonel Nuezca involving homicide, one in May of 2019 and another December 2019. Both were dismissed due to “lack of evidence.” He has killed before and they let him go. The police let loose a murderer because he was one of them. Police brutality should not be part of the Philippines culture, but Duterte’s administration and his willingness to kill has emboldened police like Jonel Nuezca to use their authority as they see fit. Worse is that there’s still people who refuse to hold the police accountable.

They’re now calling it an isolated case.

I know most of the people who sees this will not be Filipino, but please talk about this. Please spread this as far as possible. Don’t let them sweep this under the rug again, because they will. Don’t let them forget that Sonya and Frank has been murdered. That a cop murdered a mother trying to protect his child in order to spoil his daughter. Don’t let them call activists “terrorists” while police are out shooting any unarmed civilian they see.

Yesterday, a mother and child were murdered by a policeman in front of their (mother and child) family members and his (policeman) daughter. We, the Filipinos, are mourning this incident. We, Filipinos, will fight for the justice we deserve.
