And not to like, start shit, but Hopper also more or less sentenced Mike, Lucas, and Dustin to death as well along with El when he made that tradeoff for Will. Sure, they gave him their word that they weren't going to kill them, but how much was that worth? Brenner wouldn't have had an issue with killing them, or keeping them alive as prisoners to keep El in line. I really hope this gets addressed. It should have been addressed in S2. It should have been the reason El ran away.
Re: this post
Oh definitely. El should have found out the truth about Hopper giving her away, and the only reason she didn’t is Hopper is keeping that his dirty little secret. Not even Joyce knows. I hope it eats at him every fucking day.
And I completely agree, Brenner’s word doesn’t mean shit!! The only reason I think he might not have done anything to Mike, Lucas, or Dustin, even if he’d had the chance, is because he would’ve had to shutup their families somehow. That would’ve been a lot more work. We didn’t even see how Dustin and Lucas’s parents reacted to what their sons were a part of, only Mike’s parents. So they must’ve construed a big lie for the Wheeler parents to tell the other parents so it would all stay under wraps.
Yeah I’ll be irritated af if s3 doesn’t address Hopper coming clean about what happened in 1x08, how he put not only El in danger, consigning her to a fate worse than death if Brenner recaptured her, but also putting the three boys in danger. And if Hopper hadn’t betrayed El’s location? Mike wouldn’t have been traumatized by thinking El was dead that whole time. So there’s a lot Hopper is guilty of.
You can split hairs and say El might still have hidden herself if she hadn’t been separated from Mike and his friends by the demogorgon, but the fact remains that bc Hopper betrayed her, gave her up to her abuser, she HAD NO CHOICE. She had no choice but to fight the bad men, then kill the demogorgon and disappear in front of her friends, giving the bad men the opportunity to get Mike under scrutiny so El was too afraid to go back to him. She lived alone in the cold woods in FUCKING WINTER FOR OVER A MONTH bc of Hopper’s betrayal. I hope she finds out. She deserves the truth.

episode 1x08: The Upside Down
Oh dear god, when Lucas asks “How did they find us?”, all Dustin says is, “Lando”. Remember back in the bus, Dustin was afraid Hopper had given them away to the bad men? And Lucas was incredulous about the chief setting them up? Well, Hopper did set them up. Just later.
