JOURNAL ENTRY
Considerable pain today. Still nursing this stress fracture in my left tibia. I have had one running from my inside left ankle up into the bottom of my leg. I have had one in my left calcaneus, and one on the side of my left foot. My foot, because of the fracture that was on the side, still goes numb at night even though it has been several years since I fractured it.
I don’t understand why I keep getting them, especially this one in my tibia since my bone mineral density test came back normal this past August, and I take calcium and vitamin D supplements. My doc said they can happen in young, healthy people. I just want to know how to make them stop! The pain is horrendous. I was not prescribed anything for pain, although I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I had both of my babies natural!
I woke up this morning with terrible pain. I had misplaced one of my crutches. Since I care for my 88-year-old MIL, I can’t carry things to her with two crutches. Yesterday, I used the one for the most part.
I wasn’t feeling well and stayed in the bed most of the day, but I have to cook supper for my MIL, so I got up and cleaned the kitchen and made vegetable soup. I was on my feet for several hours hobbling on the crutch while doing it.
When I woke up this morning, the pain was horrific. I looked this house over for my other crutch, but I couldn’t find it. My niece comes three times a week to help my MIL get a shower. She and her husband helped me look for it, but we couldn’t find it. I have two more pair in my shed, but he couldn’t find the other pair of aluminum ones that I wanted. I told him not to worry about getting the wooden ones. I kept looking for it.
I tried to remember the last time I had it and it was when I took a shower. Though I had looked in the bathroom several times, as did my niece, I had still overlooked it. It had slipped behind the shower curtain. When I went into the bathroom to look again, I moved the shower curtain and found it. My pain level has dropped somewhat since I have been able to use both crutches today.
My daughter had to go to south Alabama, we live in east central, to be fitted for a dress for her BFF’s wedding. My grandson’s father has to be at work at 10 AM, so I am going to have to keep my 3-year-old grandson. I may take him to my Mom’s so she can help me with him. He is a handful!
I am just ready for this to be over! Five more weeks on crutches is a bit depressing, and so is the fact that this is my fourth stress fracture. I just don’t understand why I keep getting them.
