Breeding strills is a very serious matter. They’re not like dogs, who live a decade plus. No—their lifespans are three or four times an average human’s even with Star Wars medicine. Even individual strills are heirlooms that are passed from one generation of people to the next. Strill blood lines? Priceless. The work of millennia.

Pretend with me that strills have a genetic diversity similar to earth dogs.

In general, I think strills are komodo dragons with velvet pitbull fur and the wrinkles of a Sharpei over its body (less so around the face for eyesight). Lizard mammal hyena dogs, if you will.

Lord Mirdalan is your basic hunting strill: short fur, gliding skin flaps, can climb and swim and run. It is highly independent and intelligent while also being totally obedient to its owner.

What if there were also…

Guard strills: bigger than your typical strill with longer fur to block out the elements (cold, rain wind). They are bred to be independent but also extremely loyal to protect its flock/pack (livestock/Mando family). These strills guard the perimeter of a given area and will sound the alarm and brutally fight off any threats. They have longer, slightly more upright necks/shoulders so they can see into the distance and keep a look out. They aren’t nose to the ground hunters, they rely more on eyesight.

Herding strills: shorter and much faster (think corgi legs). These are stubborn strills bred to adamantly herd livestock (and kids sometimes!). They’re intelligent thinkers and can do problem solving tasks. Extremely fast and agile. Their claws aren’t as long as other breeds, they’re equipped more for running than climbing. Might have shorter snouts to help with maneuvering around livestock.

Companion strill: hear me out. There’s a very rare breed of strill that’s about half the size of a regular strill that’s been bred to be emotionally aware of its owners, a bit lazy, and loves attention and close contact. These are strills that thrive in big clans with age extremes (very young and very elderly) and provide support in tough times. They’re playful and love to learn tricks and play games. They can hunt pests and keep farms tidy of mice and things.

I like the idea of strills having different color coats too! Mird is gold, maybe there’s also black, brown, blue/gray, white… patterns, perhaps…? Not opposed to colors like purple or pink either!

As (an amateur) stamps collector I present the idea of in-universe postage stamps. Most likely not from the modern in-universe era, but when hyperspace travel and intergalactic shipping were less facilitated by technology and the holonet maybe? Because c’mon, who wouldn’t want to get postcards from different planets your friends and family were visiting on their galactic tour? Or a package from them working in a different solar system. And since  we know galaxy far far away has taxes and interplanetary trade, then I like to think there was time when citizens were buying postage stamps to send their packages and mails to keep in contact with their friends and family back at home, before holonet and comlink became an universal thing. 

And maybe, just maybe the postage stamps are still produced just as something fun to collect and/or tourist attraction?

So here, have some postage stamps with strills (let’s just ignore my crude edit skills lol and yes I’m still here for sphynx cats as inspiration for strills).

Star Wars Roleplaying Game: The Unknown Regions

I just think it’d be funny if Tarre Vizsla left a holocron diary or two for his descendants, and sure the last half of the entries are all “Mand’alor-ing for Dummies” with political essays, detailed accounts of his recruitment of various clans, and a explanations of various laws he enacted and why they were necessary, but the first half is just utterly ridiculous Jedi nonsense.

“Dear Diary,

Today Fay took on a padawan. They are a Wookie, and they told me my hair is stupid in Shyriiwook. Since the Council told me I’m not allowed to fight any more children, I have to go find a padawan and get them to beat up Fay’s padawan”.

“Dear Diary,

Today my padawan accidentally was possessed by a Sith artifact (I told her not to touch it!!! 😡😡😡😡), but it’s okay. I threw it against a wall really hard and she snapped out of it. She’s claiming she woke up cause she fought off the essence of a dead Sith Lord in her mindscape, but I think it was the throwing that worked”.

“Dear Diary,

Today the Council called me into a meeting. I thought they were gonna congratulate me for my awesome campaign against the Sith army besieging Ryloth, but nooooo. Instead, I got a warning to stop giving the crèchelings man-eating predators as pets. It’s not my fault I happened to liberate a litter of strills from an unethical breeder! And strills like children! Sure, there was one little incident, but it’s really Master Vizzople’s fault for smelling like nerf beef all the time!”

Tiny 12 year old Obi-Wan on his first mission (with Master Dooku) gets lost because of Circumstances™️ (even with a different master poor baby can’t stop with the rough missions) and finds a strill in the forest who immediately recognizes him as Pup (Obi-Wan was worried that the strill was mad at him for being in their territory so he reached out to them in the force and found the big thing has already decided he’s a lost pup in need of help) and immediately gets corralled off to a close by farm, where Mand’alor Mereel is taking a small vacation with his son Jango and a few verde after a few rough missions, Obi-Wan is immediately nudged into a barn where Jango is trying to get the rest of the strills to bed down and stop harassing the livestock when suddenly there is a small dirty child at his elbow asking Solus to stop trying to trip him and Jango is all ‘…oh no… I’m a father…’ and promptly takes him back to the house where he gets the child cleaned and fed and Jaster is yammering his ear off about all the Jedi texts he wants to read in the archives one day and Obi-Wan (who is perfectly in tune with Jaster’s chattering lmao they are like minded) mentions that family of Jedi are allowed to visit their children a few days a week, and able to visit up to the master’s discretion after they’re padawans or apprenticed, and have access to the archives through that, and Jango is like ‘oh no, now I have a brother’ and when Dooku finally catches up to him Obi-Wan is introducing his Buir and Ori’vod and the few verde that came with them as his Ba’vodu and Dooku is all ‘…oh no his new Buir is hot’ and now they’re all one big disfunctional family and Obi-Wan gets to play with strills and gets lots of yummy curry from his new Mando dad and whoops he’s a prince now?????? Did not expect that one.

Shockingly enough, he finds an entire group of people at the temple who say that’s exactly how they got adopted (half of them by Mandos too) as apprentices themselves, so it’s like. Tradition. At this point. Good shit.
