Many believe reality shifting is a modern concept born from TikTok trends and internet culture, but what if it has ancient roots?
Historical records suggest that altered states of consciousness, lucid dreams, and soul journeys were deeply embedded in ancient cultures:
India: Yogic Soul Travel & Subtle Bodies
Ancient Upanishadic texts (from 800–500 BCE) describe multiple layers of the self—like the Atman (soul) and Sukshma Sharira (subtle body)—that could travel independently of the physical body.
In the Yoga-Vasistha, there's mention of characters who consciously leave their current reality and experience other worlds, sometimes even “living” there temporarily.
Techniques like pranayama, dhyana, and samadhi were used to reach higher states of consciousness, including turiya, a state "beyond waking, dreaming and deep sleep."
Source: Yoga-Vasistha, Mandukya Upanishad, and academic analysis of yogic astral travel.
Ancient Greece – Philosophical Multiverses
Plato, in his Theory of Forms, proposed that the physical world is only a shadow of a more "real" realm: perfect, unchanging, and accessible through the soul’s reason and purification.
Plotinus, a Neoplatonist philosopher, described the soul’s ascent through meditation to the higher realms, sometimes leaving the body in the process.
This was seen not as imagination, but as access to real, non-physical dimensions through trained consciousness.

Ancient Egypt – Ba Soul & Non-Physical Travel
The Egyptians believed each person had a "Ba" (a mobile aspect of the soul) that could leave the body, travel between worlds, and even visit the gods or the underworld while alive.
This was not metaphorical: rituals existed to help the Ba separate and return safely—often in temple contexts or initiations.
The Book of the Dead includes guided “scripts” for the soul’s journey through other realms, like a spiritual shifting method.

Shamanic Traditions – Conscious Spirit Journeys
Indigenous shamans from Siberia to the Amazon practiced conscious, intentional journeys to other realms (upper world, middle world, underworld).
These were often done through drumming, fasting, or trance, but always with intention: to visit another reality, interact with spirits, and return.
Unlike dreams, these were controlled, waking-state experiences—and often involved entering a different identity or world.

The comeback to school serie : #3 study tips habits techniques and methods that saved my life
MAPPING OUT YOUR SCHOOL YEAR FOR BETTER FOCUS AND ORGANIZATION
The first thing I recommend is mapping out your school year early on , not necessarily on the first day, but as soon as possible. I personally did mine in October, and it still made a huge difference in term of ORGANIZATION. I simply took my journal and laid out all the key details of the year: how many semesters I have, the number of tests or quizzes, my exam dates, and the breaks in between. This gives you a clear overview and makes you feel more organized. For example, I have two semesters with four exams each, about five breaks of around seven days, and my national exam on June 6. I also listed all 11 of my subjects and prioritized them, deciding which ones require the most focus and which are less demanding. Having this visual roadmap helps you see the big picture, stay on track, and manage your time better throughout the year.
STUDY FOR YOUR EXAMS SMARTLY
study for your exams smartly by starting your preparation a BIT earlier than most people do, especially if you’re in your junior/ senior year. Breaks are the perfect opportunity to get ahead. If you have competitive or content-heavy subjects like math, history, philosophy, or physics .. use that time to your advantage. I’m not saying don’t rest; take two or three full days to relax but then start studying. For example if your break is seven days or more , spend the remaining days focusing on these challenging subjects while the material is still fresh and you’re still actively learning them in class. This approach is especially IMPORTANT for subjects you feel less confident in tackling them during breaks can significantly boost your understanding and confidence before exams.

WAKING UP EARLY
Waking up early can sound like one of those “aesthetic” study habits you see online, but for me it became moooore of a necessity than a trend. I’m a morning person but not really in an academic way I used to wake up early just to get ready . That changed in junior year when I had a lot of work and a packed schedule. My last class ended at 6:30 p.m., and by the time I got home, helped my mom, and sometimes went to my Chinese classes, it could be 11 p.m. .. leaving me no time to finish my homework or revise or even to have a good sleep . That’s why I started waking up early, especially during breaks, to get things done. I wake up for Fajr prayer, so I started using the time afterward around 5 a.m. to study. Even if you’re not a morning person, try waking up just one hour earlier than usual, freshen up, make some coffee, and sit down to work. You’ll find that it saves you so so so much time, helps you catch up on homework or revision, and leaves you feeling more active and prepared for the day ahead.
SOCIAL MEEEEDIA
Stay away from social media I know you’ve probably heard this a million times, but if you keep scrolling instead of doing your homework or studying, you’re just wasting so much time. Later you’ll regret it and wish you could go back well it will be so late . If you’re someone who respects your own goals, you’ll recognize when social media is stealing your time and stop using it until you’re free. Especially during exam periods or when your schedule is packed, you need to pause or even delete your apps. If you can’t control it deleting them is the BEST CHOICE . Negative energy and distractions from social media only hold you back U don’t realize how much time you can save to develop good habits and learn new things if you put your phone down. Don’t let social media convince you that education isn’t important or that certain subjects are “stupid.” Those videos or posts that make you feel “relatable” are just excuses. If you notice it’s affecting you negatively stop pooks and quit scrolling. "Nah I can't" giiiirl u are in control of your phone not the other way around 🙏🏻😔 .

STOP RELYING ON AI
I’m not anti-technology I actually support AI because it’s an amazing tool that can help a lot in daily life. But when it comes to schoolwork, stop depending on it too much. If you use AI to write your essays, solve math problems, or do your homework for you, your brain won’t develop the skills it needs. It’s much better to struggle with the concepts, ask your teacher questions, watch YouTube tutorials, or read articles to understand the material yourself. Trust me, relying on AI “just one time” to save time will quickly turn into a habit. Then when exam day comes you’ll be faced with questions you’ve never seen before and feel completely lost.
But when should you use AI? AI is great for things like summarizing , understanding , explaining difficult concepts. For example, in my philosophy class, we have each lesson with up eight theses , each with about three pages of dense material. Sometimes I don’t fully understand parts of it and there isn’t much explanation available on YouTube. Googling philosophy concepts is so confusing too cuz we study it in Arabic and it's raare to found a well explained articles so I use AI to help me research and break down those tough ideas to get a better grasp. But writing essays or doing homework with AI noooooo way and I strongly advise you not to either again pleaaaase If you rely on AI you will hurt ur academic growth in the long run.
STUDY ALONE
I don’t know about you but if you study in groups and end up just gossiping or doing everything except studying it’s better to stop. In my opinion studying alone is more effective because you know exactly what you need to do there is no distractions no judgement , and you can stay fully focused. Being alone helps you develop better concentration and you can even talk to yourself which isn’t crazy !!! Sometimes I find myself rereading material or connecting ideas out loud and it really helps me memorize and understand better.

THE 80/20 RULE (my version)
this rule I follow for absolute time management, especially on weekends or during breaks when I have a lot to study like before exams (I've already talked abt it in my study mistakes blog) . so in my last two weeks of junior year, I came up with my own version of the 80/20 rule for studying. Basically I wake up early and spend about 80% of my study time in a day focusing deeply on one main subject especially the one I feel the least confident in. For example, if I start at 7 AM, I’ll keep working on that subject (with breaks for eating, stretching, etc.) until around 3 PM making sure I really understand it. Then I’ll rest until about 5 PM and spend the remaining 20% of the day studying another subject for about an hour and a half or 2h just to make some progress on it and do some past papers . The next day, I swap them: the subject I only studied for 20% the day before becomes my main focus for 80%, and I rotate like that. It works because I used to get stuck not knowing what to study, but this keeps me organized. And when I say “study deeply,” I mean it head down, papers out, fully focused !!
THE POMODORO TECHNIQUE
Again the Pomodoro is a TECHNIQUE not a METHOD so it really works but the thing if you’re someone who have a lot to study or u have a lot of homework but sometimes feels unmotivated or tired this can help you get back on track. All you have to do is grab a paper and split your time into blocks of 25 minutes. For example, if you plan to study for two or three hours, break it down into those 25-minute or 30min chunks and after each block, mark it off. You’ll feel like you’re going with the flow, and before you know it, you’ve been studying for way longer than you thought. There’s actually a YouTube channel called the POMODORO CAT that posts Pomodoro timers for two or three hours it’s so good and satisfying cuz personally stopped listening to music while studying and instead I either listen to background noises or nothing at all. Music can be nice but when you need to memorize something or doing some deep work it’s better to cut it out. Trust me you’ll see way more progress when you do especially during focused study sessions cuz u need to focus focus focus in what u are doing not what u are listening .

ACTIVE RECALL AND SPACE REPETITION
What really saved my academic life is active recall and spaced repetition as a humanities and literature student . So my memory was dead for 4y like from 7th grade until the end of 10th grade, I didn't try to memorize anything. I’d just go to class, barely understand, do the minimum to pass, and that’s it cuz I was in a very long a$$ depressive episode 🙏🏻
Then in 11th grade it hit me that no one’s gonna save me. The lessons were so long and hard and I was like there’s no way I’ll memorize all of this. But then I found out about these two techniques, and my brain literally started working again
Active recall can be done in many techniques listening, speaking, writing but I do writing active recall. For example with philosophy again (which is like 90% memorizing long lessons), what I do is in my school we don’t take notes in class teachers even hate it so you end up with these huge texts to study. When I get home, I don’t study the same day instead, I revise the lessons weeks before the exam as I said u focus on heavy subjects and take ur time.
Here’s how I do it :
ॱ ₊ . Understand the lesson first. If I don’t, I’ll ask my teacher, search YouTube, or even ask AI until it clicks.
ॱ ₊ . Reform it in my own words so I can explain it like I’m teaching it.
ॱ ₊ . Close the book and write from memory what I remember from that paragraph. Then I check, see what I missed, and repeat until I get it all right.
After that, I move to spaced repetition starting early and reviewing in intervals the next day, 3–4 days later, a week later, etc until it's exam day !
Basically:
Understand it.
Put it in your words.
Recall it again and again until it sticks w space repetition.
If you only do active recall once and never see it again u will forget it ofc , fhat’s why spaced repetition is key. U can do this for almost all subjects philosophy, history, geography, biology or for anything that need to be memorized. Anytime u feel like u are wasting time just get up, sit at ur desk, and review with spaced repetition. And over time it just stays in ur head for a long period of time in ur long term memory.
CLEAN YOUR SPACE.
I used to never care about this tip, but trust me it matters. Having a clean environment changes everything. When you wake up in the morning or want to take a break from studying, just take a few minutes to clean up. Wipe your desk, organize your shelves, and throw away garbage or things you don’t use anymore. If you have old textbooks or school materials you don’t need, donate them, give them to someone in a lower grade, or pass them on to people who sell second-hand books. Only keep what you actually need on your desk. If you study with a tablet or laptop, keep them clean too, and remove distractions delete social media apps or anything that will tempt you during study time.
Have a fixed spot for your stationery and most important books so they’re always right in front of you. That way, every time you see them, you’re reminded you have work to do. And here’s the trick before going to bed, set your books out on your desk for the next day. That way, when you wake up whether it’s a weekday or weekend you won’t waste time deciding what to study. You’ll see the books and remember the promise you made to yourself. u know that random burst of motivation you sometimes get late at night? Use it to set up your space so tomorrow’s you has no excuses.
.𖥔 ݁ ˖ ✦ ‧₊˚ ⋅
HAVE STRICT ROUTINES
Like I said I’m not here to promote hustle culture but you do need a strict routine sometimes. There are days when you feel really behind, and that’s when you need to get it together. Build a routine that works for you. Don’t copy someone else’s because everyone has a different mindset and a different way of thinking.
Your routine could be a full day of studying, a focused week, or a set schedule after school. For example, if you finish ur school day early, start studying right after you get home . When you come back from school, avoid scrolling endlessly hold yourself accountable, because no one else will. Especially when it comes to academics you’re the only one who can make sure the work gets done. If social media is a distraction and for exemple idk u can't deleted ext setvat leaaast a timer. Give yourself 30 minutes max after school then get up and go straight to your desk and loooock in . Sometimes you have to push yourself even when you’re not motivated that’s where discipline comes in. Aim for at least 2–3 strict study days a week. When you’re falling behind, you can’t afford to wait for motivation. Sometimes u just have to be firm with yourself.
TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
I’ll make another blog about it in this back-to-school series,l but for now I’ll go through it really quickly. Try to pamper yourself at least every Sunday . always find those gaps in your week or school year where you can take care of yourself. During your breaks, of course I’m not saying you should study the whole break. Take rest, relax, and take care of yourself. When you take a study break actually TAKE IT: don’t just scroll endlessly, overthink, or do something unhelpful. Do something that really nourishes you. Go out shopping, journal, hang out with friends just change your environment from time to time. And always remembe this is a journey nobody’s perfect .
I use Miranda Kerr as the reference because she sits in that rare space where the face reads as naturally doll-like without ever tipping into artificiality or editorial distortion. Her features aren’t extreme in any direction, they’re balanced and soft: large but not exaggerated eyes, a rounded midface, gentle bone structure, and a kind of open, approachable expression that still photographs with clarity and polish. She’s the closest real-world example of the “human doll” effect as something that comes from proportion and harmony rather than styling or trend-driven makeup.
Skin first, always. Antioxidants, green juices, a supplement stack I take seriously, fresh air, consistent exercise, actual sleep. This is the foundation everything else is built on and there are no shortcuts that hold up over time. Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen every single morning without exception. Vitamin C and other vit deficiencies, 50g collagen peptides in your coffee, chlorophyll drops in your water. Actual sleep, which I'm terrible at and pay for in ways I notice immediately on my face. This is the foundation and there are no products in the world that compensate for a destroyed foundation.
Find your closest celebrity match and study them. Not just their red carpet looks, I'm talking about their candids, their off duty moments, the specific way their MUA handles their particular bone structure. If you have monolids, you are studying Sora Choi and Yoon Young Bae and the specific liner techniques used on them. If you have a low contrast face you are studying how Gemma Ward's team softens and lifts the upper third of her face to balance it. If you share my specific features you already know who you are studying and it isn't who you'd expect. This saves years of trial and error and gives you a blueprint that is already proven to work on a face that shares your architecture.
Makeup philosophy is light sculpture. A silky foundation like the Armani Luminous Silk as your base, something to replicate that specific quality of skin it creates. Bright NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer under the eyes blended into nothing, then a very precise Byredo or Charlotte Tilbury highlight on the very tip of the nose, the highest point of the cheekbones and just underneath the brow arch where the bone catches light naturally. The Hung Vanngo tutorials I've referenced before are the closest visual I can give you to what I mean. It should look like your face is lit from within, not highlighted.
The concept of strategic weight distribution is real and worth understanding for your specific body. I am not talking about being underweight, I am talking about understanding that certain body composition ratios create specific visual effects and that you can engineer your training to produce them. High and round glutes with a narrow waist and visible but not bulky shoulder definition creates a specific silhouette that reads as both athletic and feminine and that photographs a very specific way. Tracy Anderson's method for the specific kind of lean, elongated muscle tone that doesn't add bulk is worth studying even if her cult following is slightly unhinged about it.
A well-circulated body. Regular exercise, sauna, 15k steps a day, cold showers especially during the hotter months. The treatdmill for 45 minutes after every single workout, levels 6 through 9, because the circulation it creates in your skin is genuinely different from any other cardio and I notice it immediately when I skip. Lymphatic drainage massage at least twice monthly. Facial massages and Gua sha to snatch, define and lift your face.
Eyes are mostly genetic. But Ardell Demi Wispies or the Kiss So Real as your everyday lash if you want the doll eye effect without it reading costumey. I would not recommend tightlining the waterline in a white / nude or flesh tone to make the eye appear larger from within unless you are sure it looks natural, but you always draw a very thin line of black along the upper lash line extended slightly downward at the outer corner rather than upward, which rounds rather than elongates. Korean beauty tutorials on this are genuinely the best resource. Pony's old tutorials specifically and the more recent work of Risabae. The goal is open, wide, fresh.
Blush blush blush. Rare Beauty Soft Pinch liquid blush in Grateful or Joy depending on the season and apply it higher and sheerer than feels comfortable. If your face is longer, sweep it across the midface horizontally (think the way Jisoo from BP's team places her blush, shortening the face and creating that compressed, doll-like proportion). If you need lift, concentrate it at the absolute highest point of the cheekbone and blend upward toward the temple.
Brows. If you have dark hair, go at least one to two shades lighter than you think you should and keep the shape soft and slightly rounded rather than angular. I use Anastasia Beverly Hills in Taupe or Soft Brown depending on the season, filled very lightly with a spoolie to soften, then the Benefit Gimme Brow in a lighter shade to set. If you have lighter hair, a slightly deeper brow adds definition without hardness, think the way RHW's brows frame her face, defined but never harsh. Symmetry above everything, use a brow mapping technique before you ever touch them if you haven't already.
The V-shaped jawline. Botox in the masseter muscle if you clench your jaw or have any squareness at the lower face you want to soften. This is the most underrated cosmetic procedure available and the one I see the least discussion of in these spaces. It slims the lower face over time, reduces tension headaches, and stops the grinding that destroys your teeth and ages the lower third of your face faster than almost anything else.
Tretinoin at the highest percentage your skin can tolerate, obtained however you need to obtain it, started as early as your early twenties. I don't care what your dermatologist's conservative prescription is. The girls who look genuinely ageless in their late thirties started this in their early twenties and that is not a coincidence. Curology if you need a prescription routed around your reluctant GP, or certain international pharmacies if you know how to navigate them. The Kate Somerville Retinol Moisturizer is a fine gateway but eventually you need the real thing and you need to commit to it fully.
The nose situation. Yuhann on TT has the most precise and intelligent contouring tutorials I have ever seen and she will change the way you understand your face entirely. Specifically her nose contouring videos, which are face-shape specific and genuinely surgical in their precision. Beyond that you know your options (Turkey) and you know your situation and I'm not going to spell it out .
Do not get buccal fat removal. I cannot stress this enough and I will keep saying it. The girls getting it done at 24 are going to be devastated at 34 and there is nothing that can be done about it. A doll face is a young face, neoteny is the entire premise and you are voluntarily aging yourself to look older when you will get older anyways. Retain every babyface feature you have with your entire being.
For lips: the rosebud effect that Korean beauty has essentially perfected is achieved through a combination of overlining specifically the cupid's bow to create roundness (not the outer corners, the bow), a lip lift if you have significant space between your nose and upper lip, and filler placed centrally rather than at the sides. The result should be a cherry, slightly pouty lip that looks slightly too perfect. The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry every single night without exception for the texture and softness.
Lenses I personally don't use and wouldn't recommend for this specific aesthetic because they tip the entire thing into the obviously constructed rather than the eerily perfected. The second you can clock the lens the illusion breaks. Think about the difference between how Tzuyu from TWICE reads versus someone wearing obvious circle lenses. One is genuinely unsettling in the most beautiful way and one just looks like a costume. You want the former.
It only really works if you have a naturally doll-like face and most people just don't. I've had girls in my life try and recreate the look almost to the letter and it just doesn't translate because they don't have the proportions, the features, the specific things that make it work. Even if they got the exact same work done it would look completely different, because this isn't a formula you pour into any vessel and get the same result. I've spent years cultivating a very specific mix that flatters my particular features and reflects my standards of beauty and you're going to have to do the same for yours.
This only works if you have the face for it and most people don't, and I say that not to be cruel but because I've watched girls try to replicate this look with the exact same products and the exact same work and it just does not transfer. The proportions have to be there , the specific ratio of eye size to face size, the particular quality of the bone structure underneath. I've cultivated a very specific version of this aesthetic that works for my features specifically and you are going to have to find your own version that works for yours, which may look completely different and that's entirely the point. A doll isn't real. It is the idealized version of a human being pushed to its absolute limit, which is not a healthy thing to fixate on, but since my face genuinely reads that way I allow myself the indulgence.
why are you forcing yourself to use someone else’s methods when your brain is completely unique?
instead of blindly following study techniques, tweak them to work for you:
✦ if you hate flashcards, turn them into a voice memo podcast and listen to them.
✦ if reading makes you zone out, pace around while explaining the topic aloud.
✦ if you struggle with motivation, set a timer for 5 minutes and do a “tiny start”.
✦ if you need accountability, film yourself “fake tutoring” a pretend student.
when you customize techniques to fit your brain, studying stops being a struggle.
mindy’s tip:
your study techniques should feel like they’re helping you, not just following trends.
homework:
pick one study method that hasn’t worked for you before. modify it into something more natural for you.

Hello, I hope you're doing well! Any new Failtopia headcanons you've thought of lately? :]
For this round of Gnome's Failtopia Headcanons, I decided to spin a wheel of numbers 1-17 for every character, and come up with a headcanon for their dynamic with the party member of the corresponding number. 1 for C!Fail, 2 for Simple Bob, and so on. Except for 9, I changed that to Petunyawn instead of Pirahnyawn because I felt more inclined to write about her.
Failboat & Bo:
Bo is Chat's godmother. Failboat was not initially planning to give anyone the title, but his fears regarding his own personal safety compelled him to put someone down for the job, and given that Bo was their primary caretaker for months before they met, and continued to be a pseudo-guardian figure to them, he decided she would be best fit for the job. This means that Erica is technically also Chat's godmother and Failboat rubs this fact in her face quite often.
Unrelated to this, Failboat holds a lot of admiration for Bo for her vampire transformation, he still has complicated feelings about the catsuit debacle and really respects how unapologetically true to herself she became, after seemingly also being trapped in her Job.
Simple Bob & Big Bill:
Adjective name buddies! This is what would get them talking if they were to ever meet, Bob's never met a non-Warrior who goes by a title like Bill's in their day-to-day life. He holds a lot of respect for Mages, he initially travelled with one when Dark Lord Hank first attacked Greenhorne, and he idolises the Great Sages. In fact, following their conversation and knowing for certain how dedicated Bill is to using his magic for the good of those around him, he believes the duck to be a great candidate for the next Sage.
Smuk & Failboat:
Smuk genuinely did go through an "exclusively cooking vegetarian and vegan options" phase post-S1, in which he travelled to the Realm of the Fey and studied the methods of a village known for its plant-person population. He was inspired to do this not by Pirahnyawn, but by Failboat, the biggest fan of his HP Banana Fritters, his words of encouragement giving Smuk the idea to pursue healthier options.
(In fact, this was a general trend for former travellers in the Dark Lord's era, a diet of whatever the monsters dropped was generally incredibly unhealthy, and the most common of them - such as goblin ham - became detestable to most after too much consumption.)
Erica & Lanc:
Erica has assisted various incompetent royal and royal-adjacent warriors in her lifetime, the Prince from a Nearby Land being only one of many examples of such a person. As such, she became well-acquainted with the names and histories of most royal families in Miitopia, including that of the Caurde family ruling the Powdered Peaks. "Prince Lanc" has never slipped past her tongue, nor has "Princess Lanc", but the title was on her mind for a while after their first meeting, however much she held it back for the sake of respect.
Deko & Chi:
For a period of a few months he is incredibly reluctant to look back on, Deko tried to launch a career in metal music during the Three-Year Gap, specifically during the first year where he had absolutely no idea what he was doing with his life post-failed experiment and post-FailFleet Miis. He titled his first and only song "Ignite!", inspired by Chi's love of fire, and Lanc's technique of igniting his spear. Even as he was partaking in it, Deko was too embarrassed by the ordeal to properly promote himself, so the song got no traction and the only like it has on any streaming service is Chi's, who habitually searches for any fire-related music in existence and formerly searched her friends' names almost as much. She sets the song as her ringtone only when she's planning to meet up with Deko, for the fun of it.
Chi & Chat:
Chaos duo, property damage charges would be off the charts if they were ever actually prosecuted. Chi thinks Chat's Tank features are really useful for scientific experiments, and by that, she means she's tinkered with their cannon in every way she can think of and accidentally blasted several Inn walls in the process. Her most successful outing was fitting a flamethrower to Chat's head, which they immediately burned down a nearby tree with, proving to Chi that testing these things outside doesn't lead to much safer results.
Also she once used their conveyer-wheel-things to ride across the walls and ceiling of an Inn, she hasn't recaptured the magic since and not even Chat knows how she did it.
Lanc & Deko:
Lanc's always secretly wondered if they could configure something science-y that could reverse Deko's failed experiment. They don't actually know anything about surgery, especially not the weird Peculia stuff Deko went through to be stuck with permanent Imp status, but they figured they might be able to work something out with their Glitch technique. Eventually, Deko caught them drafting an idea, and persuaded them to stop, not wanting to go through any kind of experiment like that again, even a reversal.
Rose & Shrimp:
You think Shrimp cosplays? I think Shrimp cosplays. Regardless, Shrimp is well-known to have an extremely dedicated fanbase, who may not always see the real person beneath the streamer, and is less well-known but still known to have had a rough childhood of not being seen for her real passions. It's entirely possible Rose would see this young girl, either on social media through her world-saving fame or streaming career, or by visiting The Incident, and feel a twinge of sympathy for the constant smiley persona hiding social trauma. But they could definitely also just bond over cosplaying, or fashion in general, Rose may be interested in a goth outfit like Shrimp's.
Petunyawn & Orion:
Orion was initially concerned when Slapo brought home another clearly very young child she'd apparently been stringing along to a lot of her very dangerous adventures, but his concern in that regard quickly faded into the background when Petunyawn's mouth opened, again and again, asking whether she can roll down the stairs or eat their potted plant's gravel or hang half her body out of an elevated window, all suggestions of Slapo's which she did seem hesitant about, but seriously considered anyway. Her understanding of basic safety and social rules were shot because of her neglectful father, and Orion soon began spending every moment he has with her trying to teach her about the world.
Joker & Erica:
Joker was generally very nervous and unhopeful about TFFM's competency, knowing he wasn't a particularly skilled fighter and not trusting Failboat's impulsivity, Rose's even greater nervousness, or Pirahnyawn's despondency. He felt ostracised from the party, disappearing from every other fight and not bonding much with his adult teammates, but in the few one-on-one interactions he ever had with Erica, she empathised with his lack of enthusiasm, being extremely concerned with the haphazardness of the party in her early days of membership. Due to her bonding with the team, though, she was actually more optimistic by this point than Joker was.
Mar & Smuk:
The respective Chefs, they'd quite obviously have a lot to bond over in that regard, but that's not all that strongly ties these two. Smuk and his trusty frying pan dealt the final blow to Mar in his Darkest Lord form, a move Mar performed himself to finish off Hank, and that makes me wonder how significant of a memory that final attack was for Mar. The fact that Smuk even did it holds an uplifting moral - Erica complained about him rushing in to attack too much when she first met him, but it's that determined personal style that ended up saving the world. I think Mar very well could've found it resonant that he was taken down by a man driven by his passions, having severe enough issues with his own identity or lack thereof, and found himself drawn towards the talent of a Chef as a result.
Orion & Joker:
Orion was actually well-acquainted with Mr. Amamiya, his young daughter is only a few years older than Slapo and the two fathers had repeatedly met during parents' evenings and the like at their school in Greenhorne, not to mention the Amamiya Merchant Family being one of the more successful independent businesses in the entire Travellers' Hub. Ren Amamiya was temporarily running the shop one day when Orion decided to visit, and seeing a familiar face from old photos of Chi's sparked his interest, plus the usual vaguely paternal concern. He promised not to speak about Joker's true identity, but he also promised that at least one old friend of his would be especially delighted to see him again, if he should feel up to it.
Friend & Petunyawn:
Friend isn't proud of their short fuse, it's mainly a leftover from Lee's aggression and her own similarly aggressive coping mechanisms, but Petunyawn's doubts regarding anything and everything are a sore reminder for him, of the living embodiment of intrusive thoughts that was Lee and the self-destructive places their mind drifted to following his departure. They've also been somewhat inexperienced with children throughout most of her life, carrying a friendly smile and a mostly gentle demeanour but lacking a filter in the words out of his mouth. She eventually comes to relate to Petun in this respect, recognising her impatience and brutal honesty as a humane, forgivable flaw, and appreciating her curious mind. They find value in showing her the wonders of the world she's missed.
Shrimp & Friend:
Friend is Shrimp's usual roommate post-S2! She always admired them for his dedication for bringing light to the world, and attentiveness to the group even as their mind deteriorated from Lee's influence. She didn't recognise that at the time, of course, she just saw Lee as an extension of Friend's goofier unhinged side, and after the truth came out, she felt a compulsion to aid her in realising themselves, though she didn't get many opportunities due to Friend's self-isolation. Post-S2, though, Shrimp takes the chance to finally properly bond with them over his newfound fixation on fashion and design, and their inherent connection of endless smiling and therapy avoidance made them a good pair of roommates, Shrimp carries the energy Friend often feels drained of and Friend carries the maturity and experience Shrimp lacks, while also being a slightly more permissive authority than the already soft-hearted Orion, better for day-to-day antics and ranting.
Bo & Simple Bob:
Bo currently defines herself by her newfound cool confidence. For too long, she buried herself under an extremely thin pretence of regality and an all-too-real pretence of nervousness, two traits that served to isolate herself, one through glorification and the other just through social incompetence. Simple Bob isn't unfamiliar with either, Warriors go hand-in-hand with royal escorting, and any nervousness he may feel in his life is very thoroughly buried under his own cool confidence, the one trait he's immediately recognisable for despite his title. He presents as an extremely honest and collected person, a frankly idyllic image for Bo that she'd be somewhat enamoured with if they were to ever met, especially in his moments where he's actually honest about his own complexity, his struggles with forming meaningful social connections and doing anything for himself rather than to show off for others. Bo knows those, and it'd be nice for her to see Bob getting by despite these afflictions.
Chat & Mar:
Mar's never known what to do with Chat, and they're well-aware of that. He's technically been their temporary guardian for longer, and more officially, than Bo, but their shared emotional volatility always made them a tumultuous duo, Chat being against voices of reason by their very nature and Mar not even being a reasonable enough voice to counteract them. Chat does really like Mar, he's a charming and capable leader, and always ensures he makes enough food for their extra mouths during dinner, but they find it incredibly difficult to imagine a world where he parents them, like they can for almost every other adult in their life. That changes a little when they learn that Mar's vengefulness over their injuries in the final battle drove him to finish Hank off, showing an emotional connection with them they'd otherwise sometimes struggled to read in him.
Big Bill & Rose:
Huh, don't think I've thought about this dynamic even once in the nearly four years I've had this special interest. Time to challenge myself, I suppose!
There's something to be said about how both of these two look down on people. Rose gains a superiority complex, compensating for her insecurities about being peer-pressured into stealing an innocent woman's identity by relishing in the power that comes with the position, while Bill is exclusively focused on the well-being of those in rougher circumstances than him, throwing away all his plans just to help a random girl he sees being bullied below the water, while Rose threw away all her plans to take from a random woman and gain the power of the stars. Bill developed magical powers as well, but for the comically simple purpose of performing pyrotechnics for his new pseudo-little-sister's performances, on top of saving the world and all. If he were to meet Rose, and learn about her history, I think he'd understand her magical drive, but would be concerned about her motives and the consequences of her actions, hoping she comes to recognise the value in the simple life she wanted to start with.
Couldn't fit it in the tags, so I'll just say it here, thanks for the ask! It's been too long since I did an over-analytical Failtopia deep dive, really fun to get back into it
Spear methods "lu he qiang" in the martial arts of tunbei.
The spear is the main weapon in Chinese martial arts. A fist proverb reads: "The spear is the ancestor of long weapons." Historical studies of the evolution of long weapons have been found that other species were complex structures that are actually the result of numerous births or variations of spearwood. In the history of Chinese weapons, the spear has always been an important place. Because of this, as in all other fist schools, in the tunbei martial arts, spear methods have been given special importance, superior to the above-mentioned weapons.
Spear work methods in tunbei martial arts include scattered techniques (san zhao), pair work (dui zhao), and a three-part complex. With their origin, they ascend to the "spear of the Six Coordinations" (lu he qiang) of the Qing Dynasty.
Among the training methods of spear work passed down in modern martial arts circles, there are many quite difficult directions. Long research by several generations of researchers has resulted in preliminary conclusions: liu he qiang is the main trend in the spear-holding tradition in our country, while other methods, though existing for a long time, have been separated from the original lu he qiang system.
During the Ming Dynasty, there were several branches of liu he qiang. In addition to the two commonly mentioned families, Sha ( ),) and Ma ( мина), according to the records of Tang Jinchuan ( и), six more families were allocated at the junction of the governments under the motos of Jiajing ( ).) (1522–1566) and Wanli ( 孔) (1573–1620): elder Yang ( мина), elder Fan ( 历), Kun Feng ( ),), Sung ( По), Ben ( Ц) and Li of Jingin ( ().
There are widespread many schools calling themselves the "true liu he qiang" in the folk environment to this day. However, in essence, only one name remains from them; however, certificates about the authentic tradition can be attributed to perhaps only three surviving families - Tang Jingchuang ( су), Qi Jiguang ( вки) and Chen Zunyu ( гу). If you look at the annals of the methods of working with the spear of these three families, you can see that, despite existing differences between them, many of the techniques are common.
Tunbei-style Liu He Qiang has preserved intact the main techniques and methods of Liu He Qing of the three above-mentioned families, as well as what was passed down by the Qi and Chen clans. Drawing on a written heritage of Cheng style, he inherited the methods of spear combat training typical of our country's ancient times and practical military craftsmanship. Compared to other directions of lu he qiang, Tunbei lu he qian is distinguished by more content and fullness.
The methods of tunbei liu he qiang Juan Linbiao ( 黄) received from Lee Yunbiao ( эй), and Xiao Hechen ( н) and passed on to Ma Fent ( М). Ma, in his turn, also adopted liu he qiang from the Cangzhou clan of the U ( ского), and obtained records of the forms and methods of this direction. The tradition of the Liu He Qiang of the U clan has deep roots, and its representatives have gained the fame of outstanding masters. In the recent history of martial arts, the clan masters such as Wu Jung ( ств), Lee Dachung ( ём), Zhang Kaemin ( В) and Lee Shuen ( () have become famous for their spear-wielding art. Ma Fentu organically combined the methods of the two families and over the years formed the modern form of Tunbei Liu He Qiang, studying extensively and collecting spear-working methods from other schools, as well as connecting with ancient annals.
In addition to liu he qiang, tunbei adopted another insho qiang ("silver brush spear") Liu Yuichun ( () from Jinghai nicknamed the Merciful (hui tuan ня). In Sho Tiang, there are excellent ways of "living" and "dead" spear grip, which have been passed down from generation to generation. The methods of working with a spear in this direction are different in their character and are of high practical value on the battlefield. Insho tiang Liu Yuichunya received it from the Se brothers ( ня) from Sanyuan ( И), and the Se brothers, in turn, adopted it from some Wan ( И) from a Lamaist temple.
Born at the end of the Qing Dynasty, Liu Yuichun was born in age to resemble Huan Linbiao ( извест) and Wang Zhenyi ( Лю) (nicknamed the "The Immaculate Child" Zi bin Ю), more recently known as Da Dao Wang Woo ( Лю) - the "knight with a big sword". These three famous fist mentors maintained a very deep friendship. They influenced each other in martial arts and contributed greatly to the development of weapons handling techniques in tunbei martial arts.

At least the tool we kinda have is accurate...
Wastewater surveillance has gained attention as an effective method for monitoring regional infection trends. In July 2024, the National Action Plan for Novel Influenza, etc. included the regular implementation of wastewater surveillance during normal times, with results to be published periodically in Japan. However, when viral concentrations in wastewater are measured inadequately or show significant variability, the correlation with actual infection trends may weaken. This study identified the necessary methods for accurately monitoring COVID-19 infection patterns.
The research team analyzed wastewater data obtained from the city of Sapporo in northern Japan between April 2021 and September 2023. The dataset featured high sensitivity (100 times greater than the standard method) and high reproducibility (standard deviation below 0.4 at log10 values) and was supported by a substantial sample size of 15 samples per week, totaling 1,830 samples over a sufficient survey period of two and a half years. The correlation coefficient between the number of infected individuals and the viral concentration in the wastewater was 0.87, indicating that this method effectively tracks regional infection trends. Additionally, the research team concluded desirable survey frequency requires at least three samples, preferably five samples, per week.
The study provides detailed guidance on wastewater surveillance methodologies for understanding infection trends, focusing on data processing, analytical sensitivity, and survey frequency. As wastewater surveillance during normal times becomes more widely implemented and its results increasingly published, this study's findings are expected to serve as valuable resources for decision making.
