This feels like an interaction only Garnet could have with him. Amethyst wouldn’t be able to let him think he got one over her, even playfully. She’d have to make it clear she knew he was there by staring straight at him with some superior prankster expression. Pearl would just freak that the kid is scurrying along the roof beams (which, to be fair, sounds like a reasonable response).

But there’s such a mutuality in their delighted responses, this quiet satisfaction of being in attunement with another person, of the cooperation and recognition shared between them. And of course Garnet immediately jumps over the reasonable playful taunt of ‘I can hear you’ and heads straight to ‘I have had no choice but to use all the unknown powers of my mystical ESP to even have a chance to locate Steven “The Predator” Universe’. I love her.
