I love illustrating and designing book covers( including typography and all that) but sometimes I have people demanding logos from me. I tell them it’s not my specialty but it makes me wonder, is this the norm, book designers do the logos as well? I dislike working on logos so much. Uhh. I don’t have a formal education in design so maybe I’m missing something.

Nope, you’re not missing anything. Sometimes designers do bookcovers and logos, sometimes they don’t. Don’t overthink it, it’s a compliment — they like your work enough that they want to give you more work. If it happens a lot, then find a peer to recommend the logo work to and have them recommend their book covers to you! Some artists do this as a subcontract, and lease between the client and the secondary artist. But if you don’t feel comfortable stepping into an art direction role yet, then just keep a list of go-to recommendations around for work you don’t specialize in.
