thinking about it, there are about 8 million ways it could have been discovered that wei wuxian didn't have his golden core. here are some scenarios to illustrate my point:

- wei wuxian falls ill and is unconscious. jiang yanli brings in a cultivator doc. they proceed to look over wei wuxian. the doctor looks jiang yanli straight in the eyes and says "hey did you fucking know your brother doesn't fucking have a golden core?"

- jiang cheng accidentally unsheathes subian

- anyone does even a little bit of critical thinking about why wei wuxian won't use his sword and has turned to "wicked tricks"

- core melting hand tries to take wei wuxians non existent core and realizes he does not have one. the wens waste no time telling everybody about this

- jiang cheng does even a little bit of critical thinking about the very flimsy lie his brother told him

- lan wangji can sense "wicked" energy and therefore can tell wei wuxian no longer has a golden core

- wei wuxian literally brought a flute to a sword fight Please Someone Do Some Critical Thinking

Hi i'd like to discuss Wen Ning's expressions in this episode. Expecially this scene.

This is just before the second seige on the burial mounds and just before wei wuxian and lan wangji find the juniors tied up.

Its just... the fear and the worry and the hint of regret....

The slight pity because he KNOWS how much Subian means to wwx and he knows that wwx will never be able to weild his sword again...

And Lan Wangji is so sure he is going to make wwx happy- its Subian - he knows how skilled wwx is and how much joy fighting brought him....

And wen ning cant say anything. He can see the slight heartbreak on his best friends face and he helped put it there...

The twinge of self loathing... because he helped wen qing transfare wwx golden core to jiang cheng (who resents his brother now anyway)
