James burst out of the entrance doors and out into the sun-drenched grounds. Exams were over, they didn’t have any more lessons, and they had nothing but free time until the Hogwarts Express came to take them back to London in two weeks.

“I don’t know why we have to stay,” Sirius grumbled. “I want to get looking at places to live!”

“I thought we’d all agreed to stay at Mum and Dad’s over the summer?” James said, sitting up. They’d settled themselves beside the lake, laying out a magically enlarged picnic blanket, expecting the rest of their friend group to make their way down at some point.

“I can still look!” Sirius exclaimed loudly. “Just not from here. There’s no point looking at pictures and reading the descriptions if I can’t go and see them.”

“Why are you even looking?” Regulus asked. “You have something like 200 properties to choose from. I’m sure we own something that would be suitable. That’s what I’m going to do.” James stared at him in confusion. “What did you think we were going to stay with your parents?”

“Well, yeah, it’s the Potter family home and…”

“And I want to walk around naked,” Regulus said, ending the argument. James looked out over the lake. He supposed Regulus did have a point.

“Just not too far away, yeah, love,”

“I can allow that,” Regulus nodded in agreement, and James let it go. It was too nice a day for arguments anyway.

probably a mafia au with uncle benjamin

10 ⧽. what genre is generally the easiest or most enjoyable for you to write? which is the hardest?

easiest is definitely anything silly! the sillier the better. the hardest--I've said romance, but also sometimes really emotionally laden ones. this just happened to me with a fic, to where I wrote this neat little set up and was going to write the fallout--only to realize that I, a nearly thirty year old teenage girl, was not a person who could satisfyingly write this emotionally complex scenario involving a forty five year old man, so I had to end the fic rather abruptly haha. Basically, sometimes I try to write more serious fic, but it ends up with a sHE beLIEveD him kind of tone.

14 ⧽. is there anything outside of your normal content that you want to write?

i've actually already done this! :D for many, many years I wanted to write a fic about Vader's suit that was from an outsider perspective - an academic conference that stumbled across it, or experts debating, or some sort of meta type mechanism. However, whenever I tried to do it alone, I really struggled. I chose a brilliant writing partner (cheesenames, whom I shall not bug with a tag lol) and voila! suddenly an email format co-authored fic appeared!

Valancy, however, was. The barely disguised disdain slipped past her like a stream cut by a rock. Ostentation for the sake of impressing snobbery held a vague flavor of disgust for her. Especially when so contorted. Besides, no one said a word to her for the first hour. Olive and Ethel had loudly purred at each other about lace and hat trimmings the entire time. Valancy would not have come at all, except Olive had insisted Valancy join them. Cousin Stickles had yowled at Valancy about being grateful for the kindness of her cousin as Valancy had left, but Valancy had known that Olive wanted her drab little cousin next to her to emphasize Olive’s own beauty and aplomb. Like a little gray moth next to a monarch, Valancy thought bitterly. But she did not say it aloud. There were many things Valancy did not say aloud.

“Resident tramp?” Ethel echoed, rosebud mouth screwing up distastefully. She came to a stop and gazed at Olive probingly. “He’s the tramp you mentioned?” “Unless he’s been living a double life for the past five years,” Olive smiled indulgently. She, Olive Stirling, might not have a degree from McGill, but she had never shamelessly consorted with disreputable tramps in full view of the public eye. Her foot was back on her native heath. “He lives in a tawdry little shack on an island out in the boonies somewhere.” “Five years?” Ethel had gone wide-eyed.
