music, sound design and small batch audio fiction from Amber Devereux (they/them)
It's Bandcamp Friday!
For the next 24 hours, Bandcamp will be waiving their cut of any sales made on the site, making it the perfect time to support your favourite artists.
All of our shows from The Tower onwards, including Camlann, Dungeon Economic Model and their soundtracks, are all available on our Bandcamp page, as well as some exclusive stories and music releases!
If you're looking for more recommendations, the incredible @boombox-fuckboy has compiled a fantastic masterlist of our fellow audio drama comrades on Bandcamp for you to support.
If you buy a song for $1 on Bandcamp and the artist gets 80¢, that’s the equivalent payout they’d get for ≈200 streams on Spotify.
One of my top tracks of all time, according to Last.fm, is a song I’ve listened to 298 times.
The artist has earned about $1.19 from these 298 streams over the last few years. Meanwhile, I was paying Spotify hundreds of dollars (💀) to keep my Premium active during those years.
Mechs fans! If you're financially able, head on over to Bandcamp! They're paying 100% to the artists there as part of BandCap Friday (it's still on for 9 more hours)
I'm the now very happy owner of The Mechanisms discography and decided to Treat myself to an album or two from Ben Below and the fantastic works of the forever wonderful Kofi Young @neitherabaron !
Support your favourite musicians and artists if you can, it's a tough gig out there and spotify sure as fuck won't be half as generous!
I recently stopped using Spotify and got a Bandcamp account as well as frequenting SoundCloud, and I was not prepared for how it would subtly change my interactions with music.
I actually am starting to understand and remember different music genres. I can look up math rock or 80s-90s city pop and know what to expect. I listen to albums a lot more now, and have started recognizing the different styles of the artists I regularly listen to. I can get a hankering for a Certain Type of Music and go find it. This is amazing. I feel like I’m 15 first getting Apple Music again.
I get recs for new music from Tumblr and my friends and fun album art I see when browsing. I have taken back the curation of my music taste from the algorithm and it feels amazing tbh
